I don't own this one, but it seems to be constantly updated with new stuff, and the only title that's happening with to boot. Can anyone on here vouch for Wipeout Pure?

It's a fun game, good graphics and sound. I got bored with it, but now I'm getting the itch to play again.

It is great...when you can get the updates. It's pretty horrible through the wi-fi. Most of us players are waiting for the music mixer...
Also, with this update I think the included PSP stick would be full. You'll need another one. 512s are getting pretty cheap.

All of this content could and should have been included on the UMD. Instead, Sony has milked the game by taking content and putting it into these updates.
It is a little shady and sly, but it works. A single game with a single development budget keeps making news as they feed content out in a trickle.
I find it frustrating as I'd rather have all the goodies when I buy the game. Then, I can beat it at my own pace and go on to the next good game. The problem with this method on the PSP is that there aren't any other good games to move on to.

Probably the best PSP game I own.
I can't really buy into the "it should have been on the UMD in the first place" theory, though. I mean, this makes, what, 4 updates now? MAYBE the first update could have made it onto the UMD. But come on, give them a break. All this shit has been free downloads. Even if it WAS all ready to go months ago (not something I personally put much stock in), it's not like they're making us pay for the content now, unless your time downloading is somehow infringing on your income (in which case I suggest multi-tasking).
Speaking only for myself, I'm totally loving the (FREE) Wipeout updates.

Couldn't you bring the same argument up against pretty much any other company that releases free content? Most of the free downloadable content you see on the internet isn't exactly revolutionary and was created with low developement costs, oftentimes reusing old textures and models to create something "new" to provide the means of saying "Hey! We're, like, sorta supporting our game with lotsa new stuff! BUY IT!"

The difference would be that this content wasn't created after the game launched, but BEFORE the game launched. They already knew exactly which tracks and vehicles would be in each of the content packs as well as the size of the pack.
I don't have a problem with NEW content coming along after a game has been created, but this isn't new. It is DELAYED. It is late to the party and people are treating that as a feature. That’s reprehensible and is not a behavior which I support.
The content isn't free. When you bought the game, you paid for the development costs of this content. This isn't EXTRA, it is part of the original game design and scope. It should have therefore come on the disc.
The only reason it didn't come on the disc was so Sony could continue to make headlines, such as this one, long after the game fell off the radar (and to sell more memory sticks).

Thank you for your amazing inside information. I'm impressed that you know that just in the case of this game its content was complete ahead of time. I suppose you have some kind of "inside information" that revealed this to you?
If the original game felt incomplete you have room to bitch about them later releasing that content to complete it, otherwise get over it and be grateful it's coming out at all. I don't see how continuing to release content is such a powerful marketing move considering 80% of those who own the game won't ever even know about it.

Yeah i gotta agree with phades, kam, that is a weak arguement. people go hog wild nuts over the halo 2 map pack, that they are SELLING in stores. They will later release it as free but they are still selling it. Secondly this is a free download, enjoy it. Bandwidth costs money, paying people to put this update together costs money.

I remember an interview with the devs mentioning that, by the way.

Thank you mister_slim.
I'm not an industry insider who works on the dev team. I just have a memory longer that two seconds.
I remember reading the articles stating exactly how big each expansion would be, BEFORE the game launched.
Please explain to me how the duce they were able to tell the exact size of the downloadable content updates without having packaged them?
This isn't new content, it is purposefully delayed!

M'eh. Still free. As long as they're not double dipping into my wallet, it works for me.

The developers at SCE Studios Liverpool have already plotted out and designed the bulk of the downloadable content, and are expecting the total file size to tip past 40MB.
Sounds like this wasn't really 'new' content after all but stuff developed as part of the regular development process.
Thanks Google!
