nice. I may install it again just to try it out. However, it's gonna be hard to pull me away from WoW.

Boy, next I hope they patch that warp-whistle exploit out of Super Mario Bros. 3.

I'm always surprised when I hear about another patch for Diablo 2. When did this game come out, like 1998, and they are still providing updates! I think game sites should start praising developers more often who do stuff like this.

You forgot to add:
2 new bosses! Lilith in The Tower and Green Diablo Clone in Tristram.
Blizzard rocks! So does Epic!

This may or may not be pretty good for me cause I STILL haven't completed this and refuse to uninstall it till I do. Alas my crappy necro just isn't up to the job, I'm right at the end too, mere screen lengths from the final fight but I always get my ass handed to me trying to reach it and repetitious leveling up at that stage is depressingly slow and tedious. *sigh*

Very nice. I just reinstalled a couple days ago. I was going to start playing through again but got distracted by reality and then by Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (the SP is just too handy and the game is too good). Since I haven't even played much 1.10, I'll have a lot of new stuff to see.
Now, if they could just get us some Diablo 3...I love sequels to fun games. :)

I envisage Diablo 3 to be an action MMO in the vein of City of Heroes. 3D, unabashed monster-bash, with hundreds of monsters on screen at once, with the Diablo setting and heavy player customization. I don't think the Diablo mythos is quite as expansive as Warcraft to support a true MMORPG. The whole point of Diablo was creating amazing characters and being able to show that off would work in a massively online Diablo 3. Now if they were smart and went the Guild Wars direction (free), that would be most excellent...

Ditto for me. I love the Blizzard movies SO much but I just never finished the expansion pack to see how the story ends... I need to do that. :D

This kinda makes me want to unbury my disks and load it up. I might even just buy the battle chest to get the expansion and the original game along with it. I remember seeing the first Diablo back in ... 1994(?). It was a demo running in the campus computer store. Made me wish even more that I had a computer in college at the time. Incidently, when I finally did get a computer, I started with Warcraft 2 and never looked back. Those were pioneering days, me thinks.

I'm currently installing Diablo II on my old Pentium 3. I use it for email now that my main rig stays logged into WoW. Thanks for the post, as Tuesday mornings may be my new Diablo days.

I think Diablo 1 came out in 1996 or 1997.
Diablo 2 is my all-time most played game. Evar. In my opinion it's still a lot better game than WoW, but then again, my opinion is notorious here for being both adamant and irritating.

D2 came out on the July long weekend in 2000.

Fuck, just when I thought I was done with this, Blizzard comes along again and parts the veil of tears which is common reality, allowing me to step beyond that misty curtain and into an extra 23 lbs. of accumulated body fat. Fuck you Diablo 2 :(

it really is, isn't it? one of my favourite games ever i think, and the ideal medium for this type of game, when you can save in-combat. are any of the others (like fire-emblem) anywhere near as good as this?
oh, and D2 update. woot? never got 2, loved 1 at the time, but when i stopped playing i sorta realised how dull it was. was just the way the items were done so well that kept me going until the end! oh, and the multiplayer, which was still pretty new, then! ;)

What the hell are you babbling about? Any link to back this one up? As far as I know most of the D II team has been reassigned to "Something else"
Blizzard to my knowledge has never layed off.

Technically, some of them get offers to work at Blizzard South right away, and some others get a chance to interview for a position at Blizzard South.

They also laid off some of the WoW team back around when they shipped, but they didn't announce it and it wasn't a ton of people.

Diablo 1 had me addicted for 2 weeks (and about 100 hours of pay per hour internet access) but by the 3rd week (and with one messed up mouse hand) I realised I had absolutely no urge to play it any more. I checked out Diablo 2 briefly but didn't find it much different. To be fair I haven't really found any of the various diablo clones that I've tried that compelling either.
Getting on topic, still releasing patches and supporting vintage games like Starcraft and Diablo II is worthy of great praise IMO.
