Gimmicky game character statues come and go, but this offering definitely has an air of coolness to it. For $100, this Blizzard-licensed company will use a capture of your character, in whatever gear you want, to craft a 3D miniature figurine.

From the website for FigurePrints (http://figureprints.com/):

Select your character:
Tell us your character name and realm and we will take a snapshot of your character as he/she is today.

Outfit your gear:
We give you the option of outfitting any of the gear that you currently possess for that character. Pick and choose the gear that shows them at their most epic!

Order your figure:
Then let us create your fully customized WoW character using our 3D modeling and next-gen fabrication techniques.

I quit WOW ages ago, but I have to admit, between the recent ad campaign and this little innovation, they've not been resting on their laurels...

These guys are going to make a fortune if they can scale production to meet demand and the figurines are actually decent.

When I played, I used to go through gear all the time. I guess it settles down once you get to high level? Either way, yeah I am sure there are plenty of WoW nerds out there who want a sexy bust of their female Night Elves.

That is an unbelievably great idea. Literally another wow about WoW.

Some day I have to try WoW. Thing is, I like being married...

Best. Licensing idea. Ever.
I would LOVE my Tauren in toy form!

I've been asking for this since the early days of UO. All MMOs should have this. I've heard that Spore might be getting something like this as well, and that'd be even better.

EDIT: BTW, aren't there machines out there now that can take a 3D model and carve/paint it into a solid figure?

See, that's the issue I have of it as well. Not so much the being married thing (since I'm not), but the whole going outside part of it. I know if I started playing I'd get horribly addicted to it, and I don't want that.

I actually just regret it being $100. This would make an awesome present for my roommate, who plays about 6 or 7 hours a day almost religiously. Also, his Undead Shadow Priest would look cool as a mini.

Yes. Rapid 3d prototype machines.
Sorta like a 3d printer, placing drops of plastic or wax layer by layer, building the object. Expensive, but nice result.

Haven't seen one in action yet, but the finished products are pretty tuff, but still too expensive for miniature gaming.

I guess the point of this is to have a full guild, or a favorite character in your Warhammer army.

That sounds very cool to said the least but it would be good to see an example of a figurine because if they really want to make this worth they have to do their best imo.

I let my subscription end many months ago, but damn...this is a nice idea. As 51|RandoM said, they could make a fortune here.

Its possible to get life size wow characters created. I was in a shop in Singapore that had one, it was pretty sweet (Orc Shaman), stood about 6 feet tall! I believe the guy that had it made was selling it... for about $5000 SGD (3.5k USD maybe? maybe more with the way the USD is falling).

Heh, well it is possible to get anything made, if you can find the person to do it. The big deal in this case is that it is officially licensed, and simplified.

This is shiny. I just heard about this in the announcement about the Dell WOW laptop but it's pretty cool.

I stopped playing WoW in September or so but only because of the sheer volume of other games I've got on the go. I love my little Gnome though... $100 isn't too bad for something like this.

This has got to be one of the (if not the) coolest things to ever be done. If the pieces are of quality, this can only be great. I never thought I'd spend 100 bucks on a toy (even though I have spent thousands and thousands on computers, games and consoles), but this might seriously be worth it. This is so cool!

Balls. I don't have the kind of money to drop on a figurine of myself. But it would come in handy when discussing what Rollingbeard is up to and I can whip out my Hunter (anyone? anyone?.... moving on) to use as a reference.

Yeah.

Fuck WoW.

Wake me when Blizzard's next gen mmo hits, otherwise it's time to put this archaic game to bed.

Hey anyone wanna play WSG for the 100000000000000000000000th time?

Not everyone devotes the entirety of their free time to the game like you apparently did. Don't be hatin'.

This is really cool. If the figures come out looking amazing, I might actually pony up.

Some of these 3D "printers" can do colors as well. Pretty awesome tech.

My wife is so attached to her little gnome she would flip over this as a gift. Friggin genius to charge 100 bucks for something you have an attachment to. I would never pay that much for a toy otherwise. Sadly considering this for her birthday in April now. gah...

Man, I feel sorry for the poor kid in China who's job it is to sculpt and paint those things all day for pennies.

The sad irony is he probably sinks himself into a comfy seat in the net cafe after work to play some WoW to unwind!

Nice someone finally does this. As I see in this thread others had the Idea long ago, too.

Doesn't anyone wonder what one of these will cost? I'm sure they'll be quite expensive.

Edit:
Using the following link I was able to browse the site a bit (thanks, google):

http://www.figureprints.com/Help/FAQ.aspx

Oh, and the Price:

'How much do they cost?

$99.95 plus $14.95 Shipping and Handling to any address in the US and Canada. '

I didnt renew my subscription for WoW because I found it boring.

I mean, I played for over 30 hours, and was probably less than 25% through the game. it just takes up too much time. I cant see myself levelling a character to 70, then to 80 with the new expansion.

I guess the point of this is to have a full guild, or a favorite character in your Warhammer army.1:18 scale would look pretty silly alongside 25-28mm games workshop minis.

(1:18 would be ~90mm -- figureprints dwarfs would be about as tall as Games Workshop giants)

Damn, this is a great idea. Not sure I would drop $100 on this personally, but I know many, many will. Here's to hoping for great sucess for this so they can drop their prices for a cheap bastiche like myself. Some examples would be nice, though.
EDIT: Maybe I should look at the fucking website :o They look nice.

That's a brilliant idea for a business. It's funny too because even though they'll call them unique, a ton of them will look identical.

My Rogue looked just like 100 other rogues on my server, there's a point where everyone's gear looks alike.

This kind of makes me tingle. I am glad that I have kept bags full of old matching set gear . If I can stick my warrior on a mount they'll have my $100 easy, Id even probably pay an extra $100 for the war kitten!
