Stealth looks like a decent flick, but Jamie Foxx as a pilot? That is a bit of a reach even for hollywood.

If the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air can be a pilot, why not Jamie Foxx? :D
Wedding Crashers -- excellent to see the Frat Pack earning some cash.

Took the wife & kids to see Sky High - good family movie. Surprised it beat out Stealth and all of its hype.

Stealth looks terrible, I was surprised the script was written by the guy behind Buckaroo Banzai and Big Trouble in Little China, two films I really liked.

I'm desperate to see March of the Penguins, but I've been thwarted each time I've tried. Maybe this weekend...

What's the big deal about March of the Penguins? Can't you see the same thing from the documentaries on Public TV, Animal Planet, TLC and Discovery?

I saw Sky High. Nice and Cheesy, geared for the younger set, but nevertheless I fully enjoyed it and have no regrets whatsoever spending money to see it rather than Fantastic Four (though if enough $$$ falls into my lap I'd still like to see FF in the theater).

I'm absolutely convinced that a better soundtrack would have made FF a better movie. Generic alt-rock just doesn't do it for me.
That being said, I enjoyed it as a silly, somewhat fun summer movie.

What a craptacular summer movie season this has been. I really haven't been jazzed about much of anything coming out. Usually my wife and I hit the summer movies hard with our friends, but so far we've only seen three (Star Wars, Mr/Mrs Smith, Batman).
Maybe we're getting older and a little more picky, but it just feels like there isn't much of anything worth seeing this year. Frickin Hollywood, I've got lots of disposable income and I'm looking for a good time, but you're just too dumb of a pimp to put a decent trick on the corner. All I see is the same one I've seen the last 50 times I've driven by your place, just in a different color dress. Hell, half the time you don't even bother to put her in a new dress, you just hang a big flashy sign around her neck (the same one I saw last year) saying "the hottest, loudest, most insane trick you'll see all summer.. to the extreme". Well, sir, you can bite me while I go give my money to netflix and get some decent, low budget indy film like "Primer" that smacks my brain around and provides me an memorable hour and a half experience.
Sky High's cool... its a kids movie and its no Incredibles, but fun.
Stealth sucks the crust out of monkey's asses!
It's not even all about Jamie Foxx, but the "other guy", who nobody even knows.
Insulting to the senses is my assesment of Stealth.

But it's cuuuuute. Seriously, I don't think anyone with a soul could avoid the overall cuteness of this movie. I mean damn.

Odds are the story he wrote, the one that first got bought, is not the one on screen. Production has a tendency to make great scripts into dogshit. That's the inherent problem with blaming the writers. You never really know what they wrote and what they were browbeaten into writing by producers, directors, actors, etc.

Apprantly it's not like a typical documentary, as they tried to put some "story" with it and give a bit of personality to the animals. Plus...penguins are badass.

Well, I would say that we're getting tired of the same big dumb explosion movies. But what are the alternatives? More romantic comedies, more chick flicks, serious dramas?
I always thought that summer movies were supposed to be "leave your brain at the door and let us tickle your senses for 90+ minutes". When was the last time a summer blockbuster won an Oscar (for best picture)?

Why all the hate for F4? I'm about as critical of movies as one can get and I enjoyed it. It wasn't the best comic book film ever but it certainly doesn't deserve the derision its been getting.
Now War of the Worlds....Jeezus that movie was lame. Nonstop teenage family angst. Voice over explanations of the conclusion. Universal happy ending. Little girl high pitched screaming through half the film. Tim Robbins as the lamest character in history. Unnecessary and heavy handed Iraq war criticism (the report on Algiers, Robbins screaming "Occupations never succeed, history has taught us that"). And I would have been happy if they had changed the reason for the aliens defeat from the original. These aliens watch us for years "as a scientist watches cells in a petri dish" and yet they never notice any humans getting sick from the most common disease there is?

I'm glad to see the bad action movies tank. I want action movies, but I want good action movies.
And not to be a pain in the ass, but the top paragraph is pretty much copy/pasted from an AP article on the weekend box office take. Thought it sounded awfully familiar, and then I realized I had already read the same pun on Yahoo! News. Plagarism bad!

He can't be as bad as Ice Cube as a Navy Seal (XXX: State of the Union). That movie deserved every bad review it got. I love action movies, even if they are stupid, but Ice Cube has got to be one of the worst actors I have ever seen. Someone blew the casting of that movie big time...

Man you know its sad when there are no real action movies, COME ON JOHN WOO GET OFF YOUR ASS AND CALL UP CHOW GOD DAMNIT.
Also when ice cube is in a belivable situation, he is a good actor the friday series is an example, while not the best movies everything flows well. Xxx 2 did not, i really wish directors would hire better casting directors. They just need to do a real good movie i suppose, but anyways i have a question for you all.
Has anyone been excited about any of these movies, and secondly do you watch tv on the television?.
MY answer is no, i havent seen one actual movie i am interested, maaaybe doom. I also do not watch tv.

After Batman Begins, I expect a lot more out of a superhero movie. Hell, superhero or not, I expect a lot more out of a movie period.

I agree, I caught it today with the wife. It's a typical Michael Bay flick - kick ass car chase scenes with huge explosions. He also likes to reuse A & B actors from his variosu flick.
Good popcorn movie.

The Islanded sucked... bad. At every turn, it was completely implausible. And not in good way. Plus, "the chase" which is over 50% of the movie, sucked.
I sure hope people are getting tired of explosions and SFX as the *sole* reason to see a film. I mean, there's lots of interesting conflict out there to explore other than "what happens when X crashes into X". Here's a concept: make a film's focus a character and how they deal with what they're experiencing. The current trend is "oh crap we have to explain why these dudes are on this space station. Uuuum she's the hot doctor who loves the hero for who he is... inside, he's the hotshot renegade with a heart of gold, he's the wise sage who will die to save the young'ns, she's the bitchy ladder-climber who will be humbled by "everyman", and he's the devious traitor who will die horribly. The poster will be orange with some giant faces and a huge explosion in the background. ok one-liner guy you do your pass. It's not funny but god damnit we have to have some one liners or we'll finish 3rd in the box office."

The Island wasn't bad, but for the price they paid to get it made, it had to be a knockout.
In fact, because of it being a dud, Dreamworks (in a weird financial state) is being offered up to G.E. (122 million dollar film has made under 50 worldwide, and that's not counting all the advertising cost).
I personally thought that it was Michael Bay making fun of his style (helicopters in sunsets, dramatic stands with orbiting cameras), playing to his strengths (stuff goes boom in thhe most photogenic fashion).

The only time I ever go to the movie theater is to see the big special effects and wowwee whizbangs! If the movie I want to see is a drama or comedy or indie flick I will wait until DVD as I don't miss anything by watching it at home. I get to see the flick, enjoy it in the comfort of my home with the people I want to surround myself with and not pay $13 a ticket and $8 for some popcorn.

Saw wedding crashers last weekend. My wife and I were not overly impressed with it. Seemed to drag on quite a bit. Not nearly as funny as it was made out to be.
I went and saw stealth by myself on Friday after work. I wasn't overly impressed. The CGI is pretty good. The jet combat sequences are ok. My suspension of disbelief went away when I saw the cockpit of the 3 talon jets. They have no backwards visibility, something I recall reading that most jets have to have. The pilots also seem to be wearing no G-suits at all. There's also some pretty silly stuff with fire and water (if you've seen it you know what I mean).
There was a couple of wow moments in the movie, and some of the action sequences were pretty amazing. But the story is just so silly... they could have done so much more with EDI's character to evoke some more attachment from the audience. The final line from EDI in the movie was just plane (haha so punny) silly, especially since the planes actions immediately preceeding it were so fucking dumb that you shake your head.

You can pick Top Gun apart that way if you really want to but it was still a great movie. Now, stealth was no Top Gun but it was still a good movie with jets, one of the better ones Ive seen in quite sometime. But yeah, that last line was pretty lame.
