Three weeks ago when I started this drive (http://www.evilavatar.com/index.php?pageid=childsplay) I had set a lofty goal of $1000. Boy was I wrong. $6,149.56 later I was very very wrong. Everyday this community surprises me in a new way, whether it's some random thread about some current event, to threads about PMs. This community has shown that not only does it have intelligence and maturity, but it has compassion and heart. There are many in the world who simply don't understand gaming or gamers, and they don't understand the rallying cry we can get behind when we see a need.

The folks at Penny-Arcade have put together an amazing charity, that for 4 years has simply out performed expectations. It goes to prove that as gamer when we set out to accomplish something, we make sure we do it and then some.

So a very big THANK YOU to all of those who donated:

grandepolloloco, zrikz, WaltJay, pato man, Crispy951, Lutheran, Vermillion, Norse, Shifter, Dark Hamlet, Rogue_hunter, Sl1pstream, kenzington4short, straximus, Camel, UWCrash, Ravenlock, Wraith, Kielaran, Psykoboy2, Kamalot, GunnyMo, 1019, BabyJesus, BenkeiHami, krin, atariv8, jeffbax, dbh1973, Ex Libras, JorcanFyn, PopoWRX, jpublic, RGetz, goyya, Neuro, roboninja, Sm!le, Maskatron, Shandor, bone_matrix, thaGirl, Bone, RandomViolence, Shodan2020, Wally, Tinderbox, NationalKato, Mdot23, Soulless Toast, HeyRatFans, Telefrog, Sazime, dtd72, Albinobees, Xerxes, Phoenix1985, MrBibbz, Hydroeric, Gaunt, ionrain, Lind, wiredInsanity, TrackZero, joshkdmw, Conco, Zarei, Clark352, axion, gzsfrk, Kevnadian, GigaFuzz, Spigot, themulf, Selar, SpringDog, techromage, net7runner, Lint of Death, rein, Crashews, silv, eth3rton, TheDancinMan, Purple Santa, Mattism, DSSJ, LiquidRain, cppcrusader, Ted Huge, Sarconix, h20fowler, Ink Asylum, Epix, Herald42, Thrak, Haemorrhage, Wackman3000, Undertakr, Loki, Jackel, J3DI, rinichanraar, Cyotik, DangerousDaze, MSUStud911, Wackman3000, AspectVoid, Libuke, harle, H1PO, ashampine, Steve_Erhardt

When we started this contest I felt I was going to have to entice people to donate by offering up gifts, but the outcry was so great and generous everyone suggested we just donate it back to the charity. So that is what I did. I found that the Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania had only a few gifts purchase on their wish list (http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/3C5T8DNFCSELW?ie=UTF8&msgid=updated). With that being a local hospital for me, I figured this would be a great one to donate in the name of Evil Avatar.com. I have personally purchased the following items in the name of our site:

PlayStation 2 Console Black
Jak & Daxter
Puzzle Quest: Challenge Of The Warlords
PlayStation 2 Dualshock Controller Black
Aladdin (Disney Special Platinum Edition) (DVD)
The Jungle Book (40th Anniversary Platinum Edition DVD)
Ratatouille (DVD)

This brings our final contributions to:

$6400.49

One final note, if you'd like to donate to the charity you can still hit up the Child's Play Website (http://www.childsplaycharity.org) to do so.

So again, thank you everyone.

this is awesome, plain and simple (i'm sure no one would argue againist me).

i know its early but what can we do to make this more successful next year?

we should kinda brainstorm this while its still fresh in the minds of everyone.

BUT congrats to EVERYONE!

Great work all, this charity makes me proud of gamers in general, and our donations make me proud of this site in particular. Good idea on the contest prizes too, bap.

Wow, we're just a small portion of the people who frequent this site. On average it worked out to about $50 per person. Each of us theoretically giving up one game a piece has made some real kids' dreams come true :D

We can double that number next year easily :) Not to sound like Sally Struthers but...

"For the cost of one video game a year, that's 14 cents a day, you can be a part of this wonderful cause :)"

Yeah, that's awesome. Glad to see that despite all the constant and loving bickering we can come together for something like this. ;)

There were a lot of people who donated who didn't bother to add their name to the list, myself included, so it might not be quite that high. I'm sure we can do better next year.

Yeah I didn't think of that, but even if it was double that, that's still a good chunk of change, and it's still not that many people. We can double it for next year :)

In a season filled with wallet-sodomizing goodness, it warms the cockles of my heart to see such an accomplishment from all that contributed. Seriously, these cockles be warm.

Congrats to all my fellow contributors. There are few better causes than making a kid smile, and I think we all may have achieved that today.

My fellow brothers and sisters of gaming, you are in fact, a whole lot of awesomeness.

... So sayeth the "Requestor of loose women" :D It might be better if this was an anonymous gift. We tend to be a little "raw" for children. :o

I donate to Child's Play each year, but I'm proud to have been part of the EvAv contribution this time around.

So, should this get us to Gold Sponsor level on the Child's Play site? If so, I suggest someone bugs whoever is in charge over there, to bump us up from silver....

I second bapenguin's comments. I am impressed with the EvAv community. It is great that so much was raised, but also really impressive that so many participated.

Outstanding.

It's DAMN nice to see a community come together like this. I know here in Michigan economic times are tough and I'm getting the impression that much of the nation is in the same shape. There seems to be a general feeling of unease everywhere. We STILL came through huge.

I'm damn glad to have come across this community and even prouder to have become a part of it.

Thanks to BAP for the hard work.

Every year Child's Play's donations greatly exceed the year before, and now EvAv's donations (simply enormous for a community of our size), as well as donations from tons of other communities will count towards this year's grand total even more.

Big props to all who contributed.

Awesome. This is one of the main reasons that we're better than sites like Kotaku or NeoGAF.

Actually, just not sucking makes us better than K***** alone :D This just makes the distance between us and them that much greater ;)

Great job everybody! Another reason why I love this community. Glad the ole paypal account was still active...can't remember the last time I used it. $6000+ is really amazing and speaks volumes about everyone here.

A goodly amount, we can be proud...

But on the subject of "we"... I didn't see my name in there, bap... not looking for the recognition, but concerned my donation didn't go through? (though I got the confirmation email from Paypal when I did it back around the $3,000 mark).

Some people may have gotten missed if they didn't PM me. I'll add you to the list.

I always try to give this time of the season. Usually it's going to the post office to get some "Dear Santa" letters...and making sure kids don't go without...so giving as a community this year made it that much nicer and sweeter. Being in the social work field where so much of the talk is about the community coming together...truly awesome. We should all be very proud what we accomplished.

I may have had to cut my escort budget for the month, but it was worth it. Now let's get those Yellows to take their pants for another donation and become Orange.

Actually I'm going to do that right now, every yellow that donated will become orange.

I meant goad them into paying EvAv. Keep us going strong here. But I think our donation to Child's Play does the same thing. Cause now we kick more ass.
