View Full Version : Half Life 3 to XBox 360?

TeamXBox managed to get some pictures of slides (http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/8862/Xbox-360-QWERTY-Keyboard-Revealed/) Microsoft used to show off some XBox 360 features. Some interesting stuff in there. A keyboard and (looks like nobody noticed) on the XNA slide "Half Life 3".
Typo or fact? Guess we will know more at the European X05 event in a couple of months.

They are listing current technologies to compare what XNA will do. UE3 and Doom 3 are also on the list (though it's far too small to tell on that page) and if you think they are all involved, you obviously consider XNA more important that I do. ;) They probably meant 'Source engine in the future' rather than HL3 itself.
I wouldn't be suprised though, given HL2 Xbox.

Or they were trying to save space and meant the planned expansion for HL2

Looks like CVG picked this up as well.

Not that any one in their right mind would choose to play it on console over PC anyways. And Valve would be nuts to not bring it to PC.

I would play it on a console. I don't believe in spending 2 grand on a machine that can play this sucker when a $300 machine would do just fine. And no.....I don't want to buiild a PC either. Not to mention bloated operating systems and myriad mini-apps all running in the background.
The controller's fine. Using an archaic typing device to play games doesn't sound hot to me either. Gamers need to move on.

Maybe YOUR computer is an archaic typing device, perhaps that is why you are so bitter.

If you honestly need to spend 2 grand to buy a machine good enough to play HL2, you're getting screwed. Anyways: FPS - (keyboard+mouse) = suck. This is the basis of common algebra as well as the formula all modern physics relies upon and it has been theoretically tested and theoretically proven time and again. I'm sticking with it.

That keyboard looks just stupid. It fits onto the bottom of the controller? That would make each key absolutely miniscule. Do we push the keys with a pen? And no mention of a mouse to go with it.
Way to completely miss the point, MS. I guess you really don't want the sort of revenue a Blizzard RTS could bring you. Age of Empires 360, you don't like the sound of that? I guess not.

Admittance: The Xbox controller does feel pretty close to how I'd want a controller to feel with an FPS. Still, keyboard and mouse is at least 15x better. Hey, don't look at me, Stephen Hawking said it!

Haha. Oh man.
I'm sorry. I misread what that said.
I thought you were saying that any FPS with the mouse and keyboard sucked.
Whoops!

I'm not trying to start a flame, but it appears that you missed the point. The keyboard isn't designed to be used as a game control device. It's meant to make messaging and data entry easier. Ever try entering text using an on-screen keyboard and an analog stick? It's a pain to say the least. And judging by the pics, the keys won't be any smaller than a PDA keys which I personally have no problem using.
I won't dare say that FPSs, MMORPGs, RTSs, and many other games types are better with a controller but several games (Halo and FFXI) have proven that it's doable. And I agree that if you don't have a PC that can run HL2 it's definately a lot easier on the wallet to buy a console than spend 3, preferably 4, times as much on a PC.
All that said, one can only hope that MS makes an XB360 keyboard and mouse as many games lend themselves nicely to such. Or better yet, just make XB360 compatible with all PC USB keyboards and mice.

Given that everyone on Live will have a headset, I really don't see the need for a keyboard simply to type things out. Aside from typing in profile names, I really can't think of the last time I used the on-screen keyboard. Even messaging other people can be done through voice.

No hard feelings, Sirod or Bogard. I wasn't the most clear ever. Blame 4 hours of sleep. :p
