Over at Gamasutra (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=6021) they have a little article on what Steve Purcell (http://www.answers.com/topic/steve-purcell) is up to or should I say planning.

Finally, Steve concludes his comments with equivocation about whether his involvement in the game industry is completely behind him: "Would I get back into games? Sure. The [Sam & Max] license is back in in my hands now so we'll see what happens in the near future.
Read more of it over at Gamasutra (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=6021).

I gave up on the hype about a Sam and Max sequel but my hopes are high now!

Whoa, I wonder how he managed that.

It's not like Lucas Arts was doing anything with it.

Huh. Wonder if Telltale Games is looking at this for after they finish Bone.

I'm still jaded ever since Full Throttle 2 was screwed up/cancelled. That and my bloody Xbox Live headset just broke so I have to go buy another one....*sigh*

I care more about Full Throttle, Monkey Island, and Grim Fandango. That's just me though. Oh, and Neverhood.

Hurray.

I've been waiting for a new Sam & Max for (what seems to be) ages now.

Whoa, I wonder how he managed that.

I imagine Steve still owns the rights to the characters. And most licensing deals are valid only for a certain amount of time. So I imagine that the rights have finally reverted back to him - so he can shop the property around to other developers.

I think this is great news.

Shame it probably can't happen for other Lucasart properties (Full Throttle, Grim Fandango), which they are likely the original owners.

Well, this has just moved all the way up to the top of my most wanted list. And I haven't even seen anything on it yet. Mmmm Sam. Mmmmm Max. Sacrilicious.

Well, I'd have to say that I wasn't as impressed with Sam and Max and some people appear to be. Maybe I missed something, I dunno. I played it right after I played "Day of the Tentacle", and I thought Day blew away S&M by a longshot. Sam and Max sequel? Eh, maybe. Day of the Tentacle sequel? I'm THERE! Definately the best adventure game Lucasarts has put out, hands down.

Sam and Max is my messiah. I have read the entire collected comics at least fifty times. I have seen every episode of the TV show over and over. I have beaten the game several times (Hell I'm playing it on my PSP right now).

This is EXCEPTIONAL news. I'm hoping Steve Purcell pitches it to someplace like, say, Double Fine productions. Tim Schafer + Steve Purcell = Adventuregasm

I want a revival of the adventure genre. I want sequels of all the greats; Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, Sam and Max, etc.

I just hope it isn't that ugly 3D featured in Grim Fandango and Escape from Monkey Island. With more powerful modern graphic capabilities, a really lush 2D adventure would be really cool. Of course it's not gonna happen.

Am I the only one who thinks that Grim Fandango and Full Throttle (and of course DOTT) would only be cheated if made by anybody else but Tim Shaffer? Perhaps it's just me.

Staying on topic, I would love another Sam & Max. I just got a legit (I know, I know...) copy from a friend who doesn't even know what it is, (plus I got DOTT). Also am I the only one who wishes that they would release the 13 episode series on DVD?

Everybody posting in this thread who hasn't bought, played, and beaten Psychonauts has no idea what they're talking about.

Sounds good. I'll just PM you with my address so you can send me a check with which I promise to buy the game. If you're that anal retentive and in league with our various bank accounts.

Day of the Tentacle was (and still is) a fantastic game, I also liked 'Sam n Max',.. Hell I've loved all of Lucasarts Adventure games that I've played over the years :) My overall favourite was 'Monkey Island 2'

Right, because I'm quite sure you haven't bought and played a single game since March.

You guys want to see more games like Monkey Island or Sam & Max out there, then buy games that are like Monkey Island or Sam & Max. Like, oh, say, Psychonauts. It drives me nuts to see people waxing nostalgic because there will never be any more SCUMM games, when their spiritual successor is right here and failing in the marketplace.

Wah wah wah.

You actually seem to be the one with the hidden agenda, teenage angst, and the bitter need of some cheese with your fanboy whine.

And who says my account wasn't pre-paid for me? As you seem to know so much about my life.
