The PlayStation Blog (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/11/27/bring-the-pain-thursday/) brings us word that the PSN title Pain will be available this coming Thursday on the PlayStation Store. Jason Coker, Associate Producer for the game, had this to say:
Probably the most important thing I can tell you about PAIN is that the game is really what you make of it. There is sometimes this misconception that it’s this cool experiment in physics that’s fun to watch. Hardly, it’s much, much more.

Fact is, I’ve been working on this game for quite a few moons, and I’m STILL finding new things to do and new trash to talk (I’m quite the PAIN Bowler, and I EARN my trash-talking rights, thank you very much).
Pain looks interesting to say the least. We'll see how it turns out in the end.

I'm very interested in it. Did they announce a price for it?
If it's cheap enough, I'll grab it without a demo.

It reminds me of the Stair/truck dismount freeware games. I used to have a blast playing those. Pain looks like an evolution of those. I enjoy these type of freeform games, with lots of variables. Especially if they are under 10 bucks!

I really don't see the appeal. I saw the demo they showed on Gamespot's 'On the Spot' a couple of weeks ago and it didn't grab me at all. If I want to see a guy being thrown around to score points I would rather play the mini games in Flatout.

Well, like any game, it's not for everyone.

Like I said, I love games of this type.

I'll probably pick this up if it's at the right price point. Noting like mindless fun throwing a guy around.

You realize how that sounded right?

This is like that game that came out a couple of years ago where you push the guy down the stairs to score lots of points. It rocked. So this has potential.

This seems like the type of game that is only enjoyable with some friends around. If there is a demo I will give it a try.

I absolutely love Truck Dismount. Tossing that stick guy through the truck window or launching him over the crash wall was so much fun.

It would suck to be the MOD for the comments on that blog.

I have high hopes for Pain. It looks like just the kind of diversion my games library needs. Something that I can just pop in and play for a few moments.

So this is a PSN game only right or is it going retail?

PSN only.

I'm more interested in finding out what the new Rock Band downloads are. Who's Next, please.

Can't wait to see this piece of crap bomb. I'm calling it a 65-70 on metacritic, maybe even lower.

There is a Jackass game out also...seems right up your alley.

I thought that this was a cool concept. Sort of combines those flash based browser games, with the mini-games from Flat Out that rocked so hard. I have always wondered why some mod team or Valve themselves have yet to just make a physics based game like this.

Oh you're one of those 'enjoys seeing people attempt something and fail' types.

Were you touched by Pain inappropriately while you were young? :P

Do we have to go over the whole subscriber vs yellow piece of worthless shit thing?

I'm quite looking forwards to this. Sitting around with some friends, seeing who can do the most damage, laughing and having a good time all around with this will be awesome.

And the dismount games rocked :]

So you've played it? What problems did you have with it, exactly?

Weren't you banned (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1057510&postcount=6)?

Damn, that's a cool 'BANNED' graphic. I wouldn't mind being banned if it's in style like that (I jest!!!)

PAIN could be the 'Tony Hawk's Pro Skater' of this new rag-doll genre, a genre LittleBigPlanet seems to be poised to take to another level when it comes out. Both games might be worth checking out if they put out a demo, even if it's not your usual cup of tea.

Case in point, I totally remember the dithering and whining the first time I was forced to play Tony Hawk on my friend's Dreamcast. Never thought it'd be my kind of game (y'know, me being Black, coupled with the whole 'brothas don't surf' philosophy via Tone Lōc.)

But seven hours later, we were still engaged in a highstakes game of skate-H-O-R-S-E with tequila shots, bragging rights, and a (increasingly hot as more shots were taken) gaming girl's heart on the line. Never know what kinds of games will appeal to you until you actually give it a chance sometimes.

The preview I saw looked so SLOW it sucked all the would be fun right out of it. If they speeded it up it might be cool. But the ragdolls seemed like they we're slo-mo.

Perhaps that was it, I didn't play it yet. Concepts nice, if a bit of a Flatout rip.

Is there a demo?

Probably not. Sony doesn't believe these PSN games need demos.
