File this under announcement of an announcement....(from xbox360fanboy.com)
but...In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, MTV Networks' vice president of program enterprise Jeff Yapp talks about Rock Band's success at bringing together both video games and music onto one platform and touts Rock Band's massive amount of DLC. But, towards the end of the interview, when talking about the franchise's future Yapp couldn't help but dangle a carrot in front of Rock Band fanboys saying that "our next big announcement, which is coming up fairly quickly, is a move to a whole other realm".
WHAT COULD IT BE?

A new MTV channel that will stream live multiplayer Rock Band performances 24/7.
A TV Show about 5 crazy people who play Rock Band and all live in the same house. Their Life, Their Story, The REAL BAND!

Ugh.
Love Rock Band. Hate the "news of upcoming news!" style articles.
It's always more lame than you expect.
So this is probably just Country Music DLC.

Integrating DDR pads into the game so that your band can have stage dancers as well?
Either that, or I would gleefully welcome some form of realistic groupie simulator. Looks like it could be time for that force feedback codpiece Yahtzee was wishing for back during his review of Portal. :)

I don't think Metal Band would qualify as being in a whole other realm.
Thinking outside the box : Give me a light gun game that uses the guitar controller.

I think it's hilarious that that guys name is "Jeff Yapp". As for the "big announcement", I'm not exactly excited about it since I really don't have much of an interest in Rock Band. I'm sure it will be exciting though... :)

My vote is PornProducer, with your own mixing studio.
After reading the ACTUAL article...
With Viacom having vowed to invest $500 million in MTV's video game efforts in the coming years, "Band" clearly is just the beginning for MTV, and Yapp hinted that there could be a strong Hollywood connection for the gaming division in the future.
"We're pretty optimistic about what this game is going to do," he said. "But our next big announcement, which is coming up fairly quickly, is a move to a whole other realm."
I am thinking it may be something video related. It could be custom music videos... but I am not sure how that could be leveraged with "strong Hollywood connections" in the game. I am thinking new Intellectual Property.

Maybe someone could grab a controller and Frequency the rest of the instruments.

I have thought about it, actually. Until DF talks more about the combat system it's hard to conceptualize accurately. Some sort of co-op play would certainly be feasible though. Player 2/3 could rock along to the soundtrack for morale bonuses, for example.

Does it all have to be metal? We like other types of music too, Harmonix. I could see some Sly and the Family Stone songs being hard as hell but fun nonetheless.

This is actually less likely than the possibility of uploading your own music to Rock Band (and letting you write the note charts).
Both are impossible.
