Wii Breaks Australian Records

Australia has a new 'fastest selling system (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6183318.html)'. 200,000 Wiis sold in 50 weeks, the quickest of any console in Australia.
The Nintendo Wii has claimed the title of quickest console to reach 200,000 sales in Australia, according to figures by industry tracker GfK Australia. The Wii sold 200,000 units in 50 weeks, beating the previous record holders--the Sony PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS--which both took 55 weeks to reach that mark. Back in June, the Wii also broke the quickest-to-100,000 units sold record, which was previously held by the Xbox 360 in Australia.

In contrast, it took the Xbox 360 roughly 68 weeks (or 17 months) to reach 200,000 in sales, while, Sony's PlayStation 3 only just broke 100,000 units sold in Australia mark last week after its release in March this year. When GfK Australia released the Q3 sales figures for consoles in October, the Wii had a total install base of 167,899. This means that it has sold 32,101 units in seven weeks.

Congrats Wii. After playing Wii with the family on Thanksgiving, I am reminded why it has such appeal. I watched my brother-in-law and his kids play Excite Truck together, grinning from ear-to-ear. Table Tennis, Mario & Sonic at the Olympics and even Marvel Ultimate Alliance were all HUGE hits yesterday.

Putting the Wii in a room full of people is like tossing a catnip ball in a box'a kittens.

all that aside, Wii is my fav console of this gen. when you look at a wall of the games released for it in its first year, its nothing short of amazing.

Yeah, no quotes from Nintendo, in that article anyway.

They've been pretty humble, saying they still have work to do, it's early, blah blah blah.

Gotta give a VG company a couple years at the top before they start acting pompous enough to get knocked back down (See: PS3, N64) (As much as I love the 64, they knew they were pissing off 3rd parties with it's design)
