Developed by Dutch studio Khaeon Games, previously known for Alpha Black Zero, The Chronicles of Spellborn is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game set in the Enclave of the Five Sacrifices using the Unreal 2.5 Engine.

Players will be able to interact with each other in an original fantasy setting, experienced through a unique graphics style. Fight with or against each other, forge alliances and control parts of the world, your strength is not determined by the sword that you wield, but by the skill with which it is wielded. This is one of the things that allows players to create varying but recognizable identities for their characters.

In addition, you are free to use a wide variety of faces, clothes, armours and symbols to customize your characters in the game. Change the world with their actions, from unlocking entire new parts of the world, to putting a personal lasting mark on a small part of the world. High adventure is offered even at the lower levels: Hidden doors can be found, conquering clans can be joined; you will make a difference even at lower levels. Bleh, looks pretty typical. Also, what is the deal with the chicken legs on these models?

I like the design so far, it looks somewhat like they're taking a feather out of Blizzards cap with the highly stylized approach over the ultra-realistic. Sadly, beauty is only skin-deep, and MMo's aren't exactly a high-yield format insofar as fresh ideas and innovative gameplay are concerned.

I think that it looks ok.. but not as good as WoW.

Now if you could take WoW and combine it with the City of Heroes costume designer, that would be great. But unfortunately you don't have that expandability with WoW. DAoC let you at least alter the color of all your armor if you wanted to. That was nice.

Looks like Lineage II, but I'm willing to bet it's probably more fun. Almost anything is more fun than LII.

But what I'm wondering is this: Why so many MMOs in a standard fantasy setting? I play WoW and GW and I'm a bit tired of the setting (however the gameplay of both has me hooked something awful.).
MMO settings that could hook me: Pirate and Western. They're both perfect, and both have a chance at innovation. I Digress.

The Unreal 2.5 engine is still pretty, though.

You know, the bit about being able to "leave your mark on the world" reminds me of Horizons. There wasn't much that game did well, but it DID have the ability for players to change the world (unlocking new areas, freeing new races). I really enjoyed being a part of huge events like that.

If someone could make a good MMORPG that allowed this, they might have a hit on their hands.
