The company working on the Doom movie action figures has posted stills of some of the creatures here (http://www.first4figures.com/newsarticles.asp?newsid=13).

Stan Winston studios (Terminator, Predator, Aliens, Jurassic Park and more) created these. I'm glad they went with practical effects, but some of those shots are still a little cheesy where the outline of the man in the suit is so obvious. Nice high-res textures and polycounts though :)

WTF, these look nothing like doom, they're more like cheap imitations of the alien.

Man, that looks like some rubber suit-fu. I can't wait for Doom II: Doom vs. Guyver

Terrible.Not Mr Winstons fault though.

Stan Winston was probably shaking his head and thinking 'WTF am i doing here' when he realised he had $200 for all creature effects :D

site seems 2 b dead, too much EA traffic?

is there a term for that? like 'slashdotting', or 'wanging' (being flooded with PA (http://www.penny-arcade.com) link-mokeys)?

Guys, guys, guys. You're going about this all wrong. This will not, could not, hell - should not be a cinematic masterpiece. We're not talking Seven Samurai or even Lord of the Rings. This is a film meant to watched like Preadator or Attack of the Killer Tomatoes...with BEER! Drink everytime some extra gets it. Drink to evil whispering in latin. Drink to lights going out. Etc. etc. ad nauseum.

It's not just dead, it doesn't exist. Probably a DNS issue in the UK.

Doom looks like it should be released directly to Mystery Science Theater 3000.

I haven't seen the pics yet, but there is one important thing to remember, no matter what the suits look like, lighting and camera angles can more then make up for any issues with the suit...

As an example, in the movie Aliens all of the Alien costumes were literally bits of rubber pasted here and there onto black lycra body stockings... look how well those creatures turned out.

Besides Stan Winston studios has an excellent record of creature effects, so I am more then willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I agree, and also- this actually looks close to the Doom3 Hell Knight. I'll reserve judgment until I see the Pinky Demon.

Can't see the link, but I'll just say get the guys who did the practical for Hellboy and be done with it.

link is farked, and that is the proper term for a link that is crushed under too much traffic.

Most of it was bone and not rubber, believe it or not.
The face of the alien was constructed out of an actual human skull, for example.

Anyhoo..
I totally agree with you on that one; if worked with properly, a "mere rubber suit" can appear to be just as real and just as scary as any CG monster...if handled properly. My biggest beef with the movie is the simple fact that it appears to be shaping up as Resident Evil on Mars...

They're supposed to be DEMONS, not genetically-altered humans!

And let's not forget that, in Aliens, there were only six (6) alien drone costumes. It sure looked like there were a lot more, though.

Well... I bet Doom will still be better than the Transformers movie.

If you were paying attention, you'd know that the movie is accurate and the whole altered humans fiasco was to create publicity.
