It's been a long time coming, but the PlayStation Store (http://store.playstation.com/store/index.vm) for the PSP is now up and accessable on your PC. You can download PS1 games, PSP demos, trailers, themes, and wallpapers. There's even 2 completely downloadable games: the launch title WipEout Pure ($14.99), and an all new Syphon Filter game, subtitled Combat Ops ($9.99).
EDIT: Thanks to a heads up from Kid Cactus, to install and transfer the downloads from your PC to your PSP, a Windows program is required. Mac users beware.
Better late than never. It's nice to see that there's already new content and full games to download.

In the long line of "Why was this not available day 1?" We add a new member. Pair this up with VOIP in World of Warcraft, the 360 Quick Charge Kit, the ability to always boot to the menu on the Xbox, Zune Podcasts, and 1 click cancellation with Gametap.

Now we just need a PlayStation Store icon added to the PSP's XMB that links up with a scaled down version of this site.

To play on the PSP, yep.

About FUCKING time. I think I've mentioned this in every topic that included the PSN ever.

I think the title of the thread is a bit misleading, since the "real" Playstation Store still isn't available from a PC.

$15 for a full download of Wipeout Pure? That's a pretty good deal.
Edit: Does it include the various download packs that were released for the game as well? It doesn't say in the description.

Fuck, I just bought Beats and then when I'm downloading it the site tells me I need some PC (Windows) app to transfer my download to my PSP! That was $10 down the drain, since I'm on Mac...

Yes, and then transfer them over to your PSP so you can play them.
As a caveat, you must also download and install additional software in order to transfer downloaded games to your PSP.

Gorvi, how about adding the info that Mac users can't download from this store to the OP?

Hmm, has anyone done a comparison to see if the PSP's battery lasts longer with downloadable versions of games like Wipeout Pure vs the disk based versions?

The site also shows what you have downloaded to your PS3. It's visible here, if you have a PSN account:

Playing any game from the memory card vs. the disc will allow for a longer battery life, since no power is required to spin the disc and use the laser.
I'll have to check the store out, for the free things. I haven't really bought anything off the PSN yet though, I don't really play any XBLA games that I purchased before. Not really a waste of money for me...just could have been managed better.

I've been wondering in what way, form, or time we'd be seeing this 'combat ops'. Sweet.

I figured that much out, I was just wondering how much longer it would last.

Once they put FFIX on the PSP, I'll buy one. I am sure there are other neato swell games for it, but that will be the catalyst that gets me to buy one.

Well, the extra packs are free, so you can just download them yourself later.

FFIX? I think that's the oddest stipulation I've ever seen when it comes to a system.

I really like that game and it doesn't work on my ps2!
And I am really not interested in the psp. But that would sell it.

I don't have a real number but I can tell you that in my experience it qualifies as "a lot longer". First thing I do when I get a new psp game is copy it to memory stick. Who doesn't like longer battery life and faster load times? :)

1UP (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3164512) gave us a nice little nod:
If you're one of the many who have been convinced to invest in a Mac by that kid from Live Free or Die Hard, bad news: the transfer software only works on Windows PCs, as confirmed by a user at Evil Avatar.

I'm sure we'll see a Mac version of the software soon enough, once they figure out how to get their rootkits to work on OS X. :p

I just can't figure it out why they didn't go for the same solution that they have used for the Wipeout extras, with the downloader as a Java app run inside the browser.
Can you use Virtual PC or Boot Camp?
Yes you can.

Very good job Sony, now you're almost there. The software to transfer the EBOOT to your PSP should be optional, to cater to those that are so dumb they can't do it manually.
Anyways, this store has a lot of potential, and I also think that the pricing they are using are very on the spot. Up until now I've been stopping by stores that sell used PSX games, converted them with POPStation, and threw the originals in the trash (hey, there's as low as $2-10). I wouldn't mind paying more to be able to just download it - and more importantly, to make sure that the game actually plays 100% correct on the PSP.
Just hope they can get deals with the misc publishers out there to really push out some good gems like Parasite Eve 1&2, all Resident Evil games, Dino Crisis, Silent Hill, Koudelka, Final Fantasy series, Suidoken etc...

Is the Playstation store anything like the Sony Connect store? Or is it good?

Once you install the Windows app, it works really well. Hopefully they keep the content coming regularly.

Sony has a nice distribution model going, if they released some PC side emulation, they could give Gametap a run for their money.

Have you had a go with trying to access your PSP from your Mac via Vmware, Parallels, or Bootcamp?
Having no problems on my Mac with Vmware.
An OEM version of XP is around 80 dollars. I wasn't happy with the purchase, but for times like this I'm glad I got it.

Earlier the same day I reconfigured my computer and removed my Bootcamp/Parallels drive. So yes, I usually have Windows available too.
Transfered the game with my work laptop instead.

Sony always does one thing right and one thing wrong with each step they take. I'm a Mac user since I despise Windows so this kind of sucks. How ironic that the store REQUIRES you to have a Microsoft program to run. There is really no reason for lack of Mac support especially for a company that supports Linux so strongly.
Oh well, I installed Windows on my Mac just for rare cases like this so I'll give it a whirl. And btw, Wipeout has been sold brand new for $15 bucks for a while now. I picked it up at Best Buy months ago for this price. I'll pick up Spyro. This is a great classic and I want to see how it works out.
FYI to Sony: "Your Japanese store makes this look anemic. Get on the ball and get more PS1 games up and I will buy them."

Syphon Filter (the original) plays like shit thanks to the controls. Medieval and Crash Bandicoot/Crash Team Racing are still awesome though. There's WipeOut, Jumping Flash, Everybody's Golf 2 and Cool Boarders but that's about it for the European store. I want Spyro too. :(
