Beowulf is entirely skippable if it's not being seen in 3D. Even then it's a little overlong between the the big set pieces.

Beowulf was essentially a satire of the book, a boring one at that. I'd skip it. Saw it in 3D and would still skip it. i'm out $18. it's crap, don't watch it. doesn't even follow the book very well.

Satire in the sense that it pretty much says that Beowulf is a liar and this is what happens to people that lie. also a lot of the lines in the movie sound like something out of monty python.
Beowulf lies in the movie and because of his lying it screws himself royally.

Anyone anticipating Hitman this Wednesday? Deep down, I know it will suck but I don't care, I'm seeing it anyway. The art, costumes, guns, and lighting all seem extremely true to the games, so I may forgive the love interest and kiddie actor.

Sure, but that's only part of the game. It's always much cooler when you go guns-blazin. You probably haven't played the first game, either. A perfect rating is impossible on most of the levels if I remember correctly.

Um. NO.
Hitman has always been about eliminating the target and only the target, quietly and efficiently. Every game, including the first which I did play, punishes you for attracting attention to yourself or killing anyone but the target. That's why there are disguises and places to hide bodies and garrots and syringes and so on - because you're an assassin, not a commando.
Yes, you CAN go in guns-blazin', but that has never been the design goal.

As long as you have the guns and the ammo, or the knives, it's a design goal.

Ah. So Resident Evil is a "guns blazin'" game by design? Commandos is a "blazin' guns" game? I guess maybe we need to define what "blazin' guns" means.
Doom, Serious Sam, Halo, and Soldier of Fortune are BG games in my mind.
If you mean that the existence of weapons automatically makes the game an action game by design... well, I guess we just don't agree.
So is Beowulf really not at all entertaining? Is there any merit to it whatsoever? It seems like way too cool of a story to bork every part of it.

Saw American Gangster last friday and it was the best thing I've seen all year, I just enjoyed the whole damned thing, every last minute of it.
Hitman looks terrible though. I'm not even a fan of the games (I like the patience) but the way in which they've chosen to portray both the character and the concept is abysmal. I'll probably get some major nerd rage here but the actual plot, the whole "cloned killer" thing was the thing they should have actually not emphasised. Instead there's some jackass going round gunning places up freely instead of sorting them out with minimal impact on the environment.
In other words, for shame! Another shitty game movie due to lack of any imagination.

Beowulf is a fantastic successor to the old Harryhausen adventure movies like Sinbad, Jason and the Argonauts, and Clash of the Titans. If you go in with that in mind and not expecting a somber, dusty retelling of an ancient poem you will have a hell of a good time.

While I agree that the "Silent Assassin" route is intended, the option to become more "Commando" is there simply for fun and the less hardcore. The Silent Assassin rank is for the minority of players looking for a full experience. You have to admit that, from what I can remember, the last level in every game is strictly run-and-gun or what have you. If I am attempting to get SA and a minor mistake occurs, I love having the ability to draw a large machine gun or shotgun and get Terminator on bitches.
Anyways, none of that really matters as the trailers seems to really run away with this "assassin for God" shit. Apparently he decides to just kill the "ultimate criminals" he was cloned from, and it's explicitly said that he is "protected by divinity." What the fuck, is this The Boondock Saints?

No Country For Old Men was fantastic. Beowulf was more interesting than the hack 'n slash I was expecting and was ok overall. I mean, I'm a sucker for 3-D movies, so I doubt I'd feel cheated even if I thought the movie was crap, so it was somewhat surprising that I was actually interested in some of the drama.

Limited release this past week, nationwide this week.
Just got back from watching Beowulf. I liked it! The CGI was pretty crazy, though it got slow in parts, was pretty bad ass. I thought it was better than over half the crap that gets put on the big screen as of late.

You're just talkin' crazy now. That's like saying Thief is a sword slashing game and only the hardcore bother with the sneaking around. Every strategy guide in existence details the variety of ways to conduct the hits with the minimal amount of visibility. None of the bonuses or extras or anything is granted at Rookie level and the higher difficulties all involve less and less visibility.
I'm glad you enjoyed playing Hitman as a shooter - but you've only managed to squeeze out a fragment of the game if that's how you've played it. Do you consider KOTOR a shooter?

Timothy Olyphant is just horribly cast as Hitman. He looks like a tv version of Hitman, "Hitman, the High School Years".
And Beowulf just offends me. Those wooden cg characters offend my sensibilities with their dead eyes and pathetic emoting. If you want the cg characters to look exactly like the real actors then why use cg characters? You need to use the cg medium for advantages that you can't get in real life, appearances that you can't get in real life.

Would Beowulf have been better if it had used ultra realistic looking models of completely imaginary people? If you're cgi actors are going to look very very close to real, why not make them look like the actor doing their voice?

I think you're totally missing my point. I'm saying that Hitman is open-ended in terms of how you play it. I.e. you can run around and shoot everything that moves, or sneak around and drop a piano on your target and waltz out in the incapacitated Preacher's outfit. I thoroughly played every game and each of it's levels to discover the ins and outs. I more often tend to use my weapons simply because it's more satisfying, but I always obtain Silent Assassin on each level at least once per file. If you only play the games as discreetly as possible and without using the various, lethal, sometimes ridiculous (A silenced shotgun with laser sighting and a scope!!) weapons, then YOU are missing out.

Hitman 2 annoyed me greatly. I played the entire game on Silent Assassin, including the last level (killing everyone without being discovered, with no guide), and I got nothing. For a game that was (to me) meant to be played as a Silent Assassin, it didn't appreciate the people who played it that way.

No, I'm merely saying that if the guns are in the game, it is an option to use them. I always try to use the path of least resistance in a game like Hitman, but if the shit hits the fan, I'm all too ready to pull out my shotgun. I do agree that those games you mentioned aren't guns blazing games. I've played Commandos before, and while you certainly could try to run in guns blazing, it almost definately won't end well for your soldiers.
What I said before meant that because the weapons and ammo are there, the developers obviously wanted to give the player a choice in a game such as Hitman or Commandos. I'm not saying that the game shouldn't be played from the stealth aspect, just that it's an option that the developers want the player to make, and not to be forced on them.
