Having just risen from its grave, it appears that there are already some screen shots from the soon to be highly anticipated Ghostbusters game (published by Sierra!)

Check em' out! (http://www.ghostbustersgame.com/us/index.html)

As much as I love me some ghost busters, that old trailer of that indie attempt that got shut down looked soooooo much better to me.

heres for hoping.

Ray, I got a bad feeling about this

Here's a link to a gameplay video (it was already posted in the other Ghostbusters thread):
http://www.g4tv.com/pile_player.aspx?video_key=19059

I don't think this looks any worse than the video DarkDay is refering to.

I'd like to "check 'em out" as the original post says but that website is so full of crap and pomp that it isn't worth my time. Sometimes a guy just wants to see a screenshot and not put up with 2 minutes of annoying flash crap. Don't web developers ever use websites?

SOLD! Game of the Year 2008.

FUCK! I will rail against fan service until I am purple in the face, but I will play the sucker and buy this, I know it. Damned 1980's and their awesome cartoons.

Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis writing? Bill Murray signed on to do voice work? Sold. It could play like the NES Ghostbusters and it still has my money.

It's essentially Ghostbusters 3 in video game form. So it's got that going for it, which is nice.

Developer is "Terminal Reality." (http://www.terminalreality.com/)

They have made some real crap (see Aeon Flux and Blair Witch vol 1.) but they have also turned out a couple of classics (Terminal Velocity and Bloodrayne 1 and 2). Not exactly the highest pedigree, but I loved Bloodrayne 2, so I won't write this one off.

At least it will do more justice to the license than the old C64 game.

The video looks very solid. What we want is the FEEL of busting ghosts...to be precise, the scene in the ballroom in the first movie and the courtroom in the second movie. And the video looks to have that in spades.

It seems odd that people are worrying about how this game will look...seriously, I think it looks amazing right now. Especially since it's not coming out for an entire year...that's a long time! Most likely the game will look amazing. The main concern I have is the gameplay. Here's hoping they test the hell out of this game like they did with Halo 3 or God of War games.

Oh come on, the cartoon? While I loved the cartoon too as a kid (the Ghostbusters were my GI Joe equivalent) the movie is the far better product. The movie to me still stands as fantastic this day. The cartoon... ;)

From the screen shots it looks like scenes from the first movie. This would suck if it's just the first movie in game form.

Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts and William "Yes, It's True... This Man Has No Dick" Atherton have signed on for voice work. No word on Rick Moranis, but I can't imagine him not doing it.

The game takes place after the two movies, in the early 90s.

Why does everyone wax nostalgic over the NES/C64 Ghostbusters game? It fucking sucked donkey balls.

I really hope this game turns out well...but I have little faith in the developer and publisher.

I'll still play it, I'm a big fan. And if nothing else, the writing will be top notch. I just really hope this is done right.

Didn't they do Nocturne as well? And the Fly! games? That's not too shabby, I guess.

I think I read that Rick Moranis's wife died of cancer and that he quit acting to take care of his kids. It would be great if they got him involved.

The gameplay vid actually looks like an amateur concept I saw a couple of years ago. It's made with an engine called 3D Gamestudio that I've made a couple of games in.

Here it is...
http://www.realspawn-productions.com/gb.html

Download the demo. It's just a proof of concept, they asked to do a full game but this was probably already in some pipeline someplace. It even takes place in a hotel corridor much like the one in the gameplay vid.

I didn't play the NES game, but the C64 version (http://c64s.com/game/1362/ghostbusters/) gave you a pretty good taste of Ghostbusters, considering the graphics at the time. It also let you run the business, which was pretty sweet by itself.

Anyway, us old people like to show our gaming chops by talking about the games we played on our glorified pocket calculators :p

Hey, I was gaming 'round that time too.

Sure, the old GB game had some good ideas (especiall at the time), but the execution was so piss poor. The ghostbusting, which should've been the front feature of the game, was merely a passing a thought. And the final "level" is one of the most hellish things in gaming known to man. It is like the Hades Blades "puzzle" in God of War times an extra 500 suck points.

I'm hoping the gameplay is at least average. If it is, all the ghostbusterness should more than make up for it.

This basically is Ghostbuster's 3 - Dan Ackroyd admitted as much in a recent interview with Gamer Informer. The only question in my mind is, will the gameplay ruin the story...

Yeah, the game was a pain to beat in the end, but couldn't you load your previous account, so you could have more cash the next time around? I remember getting the best car/equipment, which made the game much easier.

And weren't you -3 when this game came out (1984)?

Edit And at least the pain-in-the-but run through the marshmallow man's legs is better than the crappy NES endless stairway run.

When we were younger we managed to convince ourselves that a lot of the games we got for the NES and SNES and Genesis were a lot better than they really were. Double Dragon, Battletoads, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, among many others. When games cost 70-80 bucks a pop and you maybe get your parents to buy 2 or 3 a year, and maybe save up your allowance for a couple, you turn into a PC gamer like I did because software was cheaper(I kid, in part). You enjoy the hell out of the games you have no matter how much they actually suck.

I played it after it came out. I'd say I played it in '92. I was 5 then, and I big GB fan (mostly cause of the toon, but I also enjoyed the movie). I played it again recently...and it still sucks. But in fairness, I was playing the NES version, which I guess is weaker than the Commodore version.

Still, the game is simply not well done. It had some good ideas, but...

Well, I'm not a big fan of this guy, but the Angry Nintendo Nerd did a "review" of the NES version of the GB game (the one I played), and his complaints I pretty much agree with.

I also agree with his review of Castlevania II. I LOVE the Castlevania series, but one must admit that game wasn't so gravy either.

You exercise a good point. I do recall enjoying some games, as a very young child, just for the mere fact I had them.

Hell...I convinced myself to enjoy the Ultraman game on the SNES back in the day, and it sucked ass.

Yes we do. Unfortunately, we normally don't get to design the things - just build them. That's left to "web designers".

Imagine an architect designing a building and you're the bricklayer. Now also imagine that you have to talk yourself blue in the face, trying to convince him that a front door on the third floor is no good for anyone. Welcome to web development.

Anyway, I've been wanting this game since I first saw the film way back in the 80s.

The though of the coop alone is enough to make act like a 10 year old boy again...

Alright, we're allowed, like, what, 1 good movie game/year and a half, right? I really hope nothing interesting comes out between now and then to screw up this ratio we've got going.

It makes me sad that there was never a Ghostbusters 3. This game, i hope, will fill that void.

that being said, it looks like a lot rehashing the first movie.. i see the banquette hall with slimer, and Stay Puffed.

Hmmm.

but. it does look really good.

Even though that is not a bar I frequent, there is indeed one in town. People still get the joke though.
