In a reversal from previous news, it has been confirmed (by me, who just ordered a copy) that the Bioware LCE is available in Canada.
Future Shop (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10096937&catid=23358) and Best Buy (http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10096937&catid=23378) are now offerering the LCE for sale on their web sites, at a price of $69.99.
Woo and hoo!

Ah well, I still stand behind my plan where I had Kef grab me a copy from the states.

I was going to do the same thing, to be honest. Luckily my friend who had ordered it for me was able to cancel.

Well, Kef just purchased it last night. So, perfect timing on this one.

I was going to do this but concidering neither Futureshop or Best Buy offers free shipping (boo) and that I have the normal version of the game completely paid off with trades at EB (ergo I can't get my money back to put towards either Futureshop or Best Buy), well, I just can't justify getting it.
Frankly, for Bioware or Microsoft or whoever is behind this LCE confusion to wait until about a week before the game's release to finally get their act together and give us clear direction about where to get the LCE just stinks. If they had this information out there about 2-3 weeks ago when I was prepared to spend the money on it (and didn't have all of my money tied up in trade-in credits) I would have jumped at the chance and I might have even been tempted to get it if I wasn't forced to spend more money on shipping on top of the extra $10 for the game.
This whole episode with Mass Effect's LE has just soured me on the concept... and it sucks, because I would love to get the stuff they're offering. I just don't want to bother with the hassle anymore and I'm going to stand by that.
Boo!

I did this last night without realizing it was a new offer!
Shipping from Future Shop, by the way, was $1.49.

GOD DAMN IT!
Now I went and ordered it... and this was after I'd stopped myself through rational thought and happy thoughts about a day or two ago.
Crapitty crap...
On the upside, this means that it might take a bit longer to get to me than if I got it at the store so I will have more time to play CoD4 and Galaxy and Assassin's Creed... sigh.
I hate you guys.
The funny thing is that I noticed that this was the first thing I've ordered from Futureshop's website since 2004 :)

I paid $14 in shipping to get it ASAP... And it probably won't make a difference since shipping usually only takes a day or two and I'm travelling to TO that weekend anyway. The question you need to ask yourself is whether collector editions offer you anything you really want/need. They're cool for about five seconds, then you focus on the game (hell, there isn't even extra in game content). They're also shipping in what looks like the scratch happy Halo 3 CE box.

I'll just wait till launch and pick it up, in-store, for $64.99

That said, it's got, what, at least two books (and I dug the prequel novel so any more fiction and stuff to expand the universe is super cool by me) and a whack of other stuff.
I usually prefer if there ISN'T any extra in-game content. I want stuff that exists outside of the game like dev diaries and so forth.
The upside is that if it takes a day or two extra to arrive next week, I'll have more time to play Galaxy and Assassin's Creed before getting overwhelmed by Mass Effect.

I hear you. It's funny that I keep buying games as soon as they are released despite the fact that in this day and age waiting actually makes more sense. When I was younger you had to grab them ASAP because stores didn't stock them long enough for me to wait, but now we have used game sales and price drops after a couple of months, but I still pick them up the first week as if they were rare resources. (I'm trying to finish the Witcher... Stepping away from an RPG is deadly.)
I also enjoy CE that don't have extra game content. For me I'm going to buy it because I really want the art book. Hopefully it will be in a nice bound hard cover book, not like the PA comic that was in the Assassins Creed CE.

This is what I don't get - you'd think the most fervent fans, the ones who want it right away, are the perfect audience for the CE (like me) - but rather than make it available in the stores for the impatient fans, you make it online only??
If I have to choose between waiting (a day, or more, depending) and getting a CE for more money (and more shipping) and getting the regular version for less right away, I'm going with the regular version and MS just missed out on me giving them an extra $10.

For anyone else in the GTA, just wanted to let you know that I was browsing around and to my surprise some BB and Futureshops are already selling it and have it in stock!!
In case you can't read the small words that's the Downsview Best Buy and the Eglinton + Laird Futureshop.

The FS website is saying the same thing for in-store availability here in Victoria. This could mean, however, that the copies are currently in-store but they can't sell them until the 20th (or the 22nd as it says on the FS website.)
Oh, and thanks to the OP for the heads-up on the LE here in Canada. I'm actually going stateside next week and was hoping to have the LE version of the game shipped to my destination but EB wouldn't let me do it because I was using a credit card with a Canadian billing address! What a pain!

You can't, as the LE is being offered online only ala EBGames and the like in the US.

I noticed the same for here in Vancouver. Did you try calling FS to see if they'd actually sell you a copy today?
I've never seen the website showing availability for a product that wasn't due to sell for another couple of days.

Bugger it. I've been spending my day grappling with buyer's remorse for ordering the LE from Future Shop. In fact, I'm sitting here with my finger hovering over the "CANCEL ORDER" button on the Future Shop website. If I didn't have this game paid off with trades and such at EB already, I'd be more than happy to get it online but since they waited until the 11th hour to put this offer up for us Canucks, I'm essentially paying twice for the same bloody game.
It's not like I have anything else that I'm really looking forward to for the rest of this year, so even having the extra $59 or whatever credit at EB doesn't do me a load of good. ARG.
Edit: Fiscal prudence and a bit of friendly advice has me cancelling my order. Bam. One more copy of the LE available for you guys to fight over.

Spigot - it's not like you can't take the money you used to purchase the game and have them put it on a card for you for use on another purchase. I have an Edge card kicking around with like $50 of trade in credit on it.The thing is, I don't have anything else I am planning to get between now and February. Money is a bit tight here at Casa Del Spig and while I could manage this, it's just the hassle of everything that has me throwing my hands up in the air and just getting the normal version.
It's almost more of a stand on the principle of how this whole LE mess has played out at this point than anything else. I spent the day thinking about this ever since I ordered it from Future Shop and all of the reasons I DIDN'T order it a day or two ago are still there... I just caved in to my impulsive urges this morning. Trust me, you have no idea how much it is driving me nuts right now to have cancelled the LE order, but I think it's the right thing for me.
I'll just have to go over to Tracky's house and read the books he's getting in the LE.

I deleted my response from before, sorry about that Spig.
I have to agree with you - if it's a matter of tight money, then it's a good choice. Heck, if it wasn't for those wacky CPP/EI deduction rules and the way a person can mak out their deductions, I'd probably be in the same boat.
As a general rule I've ceased buying Collector's Editions. I'm sure 1/2 the reason I'm so determined to get it for ME is the fact that I was told I couldn't. I'm ornery that way.

OK... an update. I just got back from Future Shop where they told me that they will not sell me the game until the 20th, and even apologized for having the "in stock" thing on the website. It just means they have it in the warehouse now, but they're not going to break the release date.
Bah, humbug :(

Part of me feels that way too. I want to get it because now I CAN get it... but on the flip side, it's going to be such a pain for me to get it, financially (and physically if my wife found out) that I really can't justify it.
If it was just a matter of slapping an extra $10 on my EB preorder, I'd have it in a flash. If I'd known about this before I'd traded in the stuff I did to get ME paid off, I'd probably have gone with it.
Now I'll just not get it on principle. Yeah... I need to keep telling myself that until it's out and gone and I can't be tempted again :)

Well, you need a Canadian address, but doesn't the US BestBuy allow you to preorder the LE?

Apparently BestBuys in the Lower Mainland now have Mass Effect. I saw about 20 some odd copies in the cage earlier today, although I didn't ask if I could buy it.

Micasa: I'm kind of in your boat too, as I would really like to play it on Tuesday (and it had better be in my hands at some point on Tuesday!) but given my Galaxy/CoD4/Assassin's Creed pile o' games, I could actually stand to get the game a couple days later. Nah, for once, sheer practicality and stubborness win the day... mark that on your calendar, kiddies.
Edit: And the game is sold out at Futureshop. Phew. That takes a load off my shoulders as I don't have to worry about caving again later tonight when the urge strikes.

My copy from Best Buy arrived today, with a weird rip/crack on the plastic outer sleeve and some scratches on the front of the tin, along with a thoroughly dented artbook, codex, and cardboard disc holder. -_- You'd think spending extra on shipping would constitute the usage of a box and some padding, but nope, minimally bubbly envelope for the win!
Anyway, I don't have time to play the game yet, but the artbook has about 30 pages of gorgeous concept art, which is likely present in the official booksized edition. The codex is quite an interesting read and will likely also be present in the strategy guide and from what I've read, is also in the game itself. The box is really nice too, save for the aforementioned scratching. For those who may ask if this was worth the extra $23? Kind of, as the extras disc contains 3 sets of gamerpics, 4 themes, 10 tracks from the soundtrack, and 3 galleries with commentary, totalling 614 images of art, along with all of the game trailers and 4 documentaries.

If this is true, I'm going to be ever so glad I held off on getting the LE. While the other stuff would have been nice to get, I really wanted it for the Codex. If it's ingame, well, there goes my #1 incentive to get it.
Phew!
Sucks about the packaging though. Oh well.

After playing it for a bit late last night, there is indeed an in-game codex, which even has narraration for the primary entries and is as expected, filled with substantially more detail in between major events than what was revealed in the booklet.
