I just got into Dallas, TX, where I'll be staying for a couple of days touring one of the local game companies here and getting some hands-on time with a hot new real-time strategy title.

The wireless card in my laptop is working, though it is a little slow when you are used to broadband, so I can still read news and check my Gmail while I'm here.

It should be a fun couple of days and a well deserved little vacation for me, since the past few days at work were pretty much living hell.

Mr. bapenguin & Mr. Everlost_MI, you have the con.

Enjoy the vacation. I'm actually on a short vacation from work as well, but just sticking around home playing games/packing up stuff for moving across town.

AOE3 it would have to be. Ensemble Studios is in Dallas... I wish I'd taken that Quality Assurance job 5 years ago.... But I didn't "want to move to Dallas, ugh!" **kicks self senseless and goes off to bed to cry himself to sleep**

RTS...Those are not reknowned RTS designers. However, Ensemble Studios is and is, coincidentally, located in Dallas, TX. Ironically, they are also currently developing Age of Empires 3.

You're kidding right? The best Tex-Mex is found in Oak Cliff. Go to Tejanos or to the El Fenix offa Colorado. I'm not saying don't go to Chuy's on Knox, but don't go to Chuy's on Knox.

Hey Evil I live in the Dallas area. I go to the Guildhall (http://guildhall.smu.ed) and we just had one of the designers from Ensemble Studio, Sandy Petersen, stop by to teach us a bit about game design and play boardgames. You really should stop by (http://guildhall.smu.edu/contacts/Map-to-Guildhall.htm). It would be a blast. :)

I was thinking the same thing Meatshake.

I always find it funny when american players on Halo 2 confuse us with people from Oz :p they say 'put something on the barby mate' :D always a good laugh the post match screens in Halo 2.

Heh, good question. I've heard of the term before, but I wasn't aware of any connotation with the British.

Cafe Brazil, you have to go. I'm pretty sure its still there. Just ask a cabbie, he should know where its at. If I were to give directions, you'd be lost for your entire vacation.

It almost has to be Ensemble- they have a good relationship with Evil, having pitched in a big chunk of change a few years back.

I lived in Houston for 7 years. Man, I miss Chuy's.

Sunblock? It is only like 74 degrees here right now and overcast. It was sunny and 115 in Phoenix when I left. Now I'm wishing I had brought a jacket or something.

Damn! Gimme some of that! It's been hovering in the low hundreds here in NC and I'm suffering. Being from Scotland, I can only take so much of this. It's hotter than Satan's ass after a particulary hot vindaloo!

I'm sure you can blag a sweatshirt or something from the game company you're visiting.

Nah, don't worry about that spot of rain, the roasting heat will be back soon enough. But a little reprieve is nice, now and again.

Not sure if you'll have time to make it to the west of the metroplex, but that's where all the _really_ good Mexican food is. The Original on Camp Bowie and Benitos on Magnolia.

Anyway, enjoy your time in our fair urban sprawl.

I'm a long time Dallas resident as well (living in the east part now), if you wanna know about any place/restaraunt here let me know!

If you need some "assistance" at any of those places let me know, I'm sure match.com can let me go for a while :)

Well you're just lucky. Hell, I don't know where this overcast came from, but it's not gonna last. Just two weeks ago I got 3rd degree burns on my shoulders.

Slandering Chuy's? Them's fightin' words! El Fenix and Mi Cocina make my "I just don't get it, buddy" list. If he's at Ensemble, then it's just a short run down central...
