Capcom sends word that the latest entry to the court of their Ace Attorney series will be coming to the US some time early 2008.

SAN MATEO, Calif. — November 9, 2007  Capcom® Entertainment, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced that the latest installment of its highly popular courtroom drama series, Apollo Justice™: Ace Attorney™ is scheduled for release in North America in early 2008. This is the fourth game in the series and the first developed specifically for Nintendo DS™ and sees a change of direction for the story line with the introduction of new defense attorney Apollo Justice and a host of new characters. Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney has been rated T for Teen by the ESRB.
No objection from me!

I'm happy to hear this officially announced, though it's been all but confirmed for a little while. All my must-have titles these days are on portable systems. I'd complain if I weren't having so much fun with them.

And you were the one telling me I was dooming us to a life with no Apollo Justice back when I ordered the import of Phoenix Wright 3 in the Summer.

Neener neener neener.

Holy hell. I just got a really strong case of deja vu, though it's more that I remember getting a feeling of deja vu when writing something very similar to the above paragraph at an earlier date. Eek! I'm psychic (or tired)

Anyway, I'm extremely happy for this news. I just beat Trials &
Tribulations on this past Monday and it was a fantastic ride from start to finish and a great wrap-up of the Phoenix Wright trilogy. I can't wait for this to come out as it will be nice to have full DS functionality in an Ace Attorney game.

I wonder how early in 2008 this'll be out. I've already got Professor Layton & The Curious Village in my sights for February. If this came out in March, it would make a perfect birthday present for me.

Wow, I totally missed the boat on Phoenix Wright 3. I didn't know it shipped in North America a couple weeks ago (!).

Thanks for the reminder.... must... resist... urge to break into the local Best Buy.

On a tangential note:

Whoever it was that was complaining about the import version of Phoenix Wright 3 being rife with spelling errors and typos needs to be taken out behind the barn and beaten. In the entire game I found ONE typo. They had put ON instead of NO in a sentence. There are some other misspellings of words in some other parts of the game but it's always because of a character's accent or, in the case of the Canadian judge, because he's Canadian and just talks funny :)

Stupid people on the Capcom boards complaining about typos that just plain old do not exist...

In the same amount of time as the time in between the first two games, we'll have gotten games two, three, AND four.

Something to think about.

seriously? two titles a year? I like the series, though I've only played the second one, but I don't see the justification in such a frequent release schedule? seems like everyone's excited about it though....and I'm sure I'll eventually buy all of them to play but I'm worried I won't be able to keep up if they maintain this steady rate of sequels.

You have to remember that the first three games were all ports of GBA titles that were out in Japan several years ago.

Also, the window between the release of Trials & Tribulations in Japan and North America was much smaller than the one for And Justice For All. I've bought the imports of the second and third games and I had And Justice For All a good 4 months or so (if not longer) before the North American release. For Trials & Tribulations, it was only a 2 month difference.

I'm sure that after Apollo Justice hits (and hopefully does well) that things will slow down for a while and we will probably only see one game every year or year and a half. It has got to be a lot more time consuming coming up with a new game rather than just translating and porting an older game.

Though, if you think about it, they've got all of the art assets for the new characters and such now that Apollo Justice is finished. They could conceivably crank out new games with the same canned animations and voice clips as the first Apollo Justice game as fast as they can write new scripts and draw a few new backgrounds.

(I kid, I kid)

Unfortunately, my laptop choices range from my smokin' fast 486 laptop (complete with Windows 3.1 and DOS!) to my other laptop which is loaded with Vista and probably rivals my desktop in power... and that has a broken screen due to my son's experiments with glass cleaner and LCD displays.

Sigh. If I had the screen fixed, I'd probably be playing Sam & Max or some other fun game right now. Instead I'm stuck playing FFT on my PSP and banging my head against the wall in frustration.

I don't know if I'll ever finish PW3, still on case 2, but I'm willing to give this a shot. Hoping for some new gameplay mechanics, at least like they had in the 5th case on PW1.

I assume that you took pruning shears to his thumbs for atonement? The best part is that it wasn't my laptop (at the time). He got away from adults and went to town on the thing while my wife's back was turned (I was 200 kms away, so I can blame her and feel good about it).

He is only 3 though... suffice it to say, we are careful not to leave electronics lying around where he can grab them.

Hoping for some new gameplay mechanics, at least like they had in the 5th case on PW1.Well, I hate to disappoint you, but you'll have to wait for Apollo Justice for more of the DS integration like we had at the end of PW1. PW3 plays out strictly by the books, gameplay-wise. What you see is what you get.

That said, it's a fantastic game, storywise. The final case is an absolute humdinger.

And I have to say, Desirée is easily the hottest character in a videogame, hands down. If only Phoenix would dump Maya and hook up with her...

Sorry, where was I?

Yeah, that's why I'm struggling to finish it, knowing that. I still enjoy the dialog, although I'm not as big a fan of the constant reuse of characters. Just really tired of the gameplay at this point.

Back on topic... This is very good news for me, the third game was fantastic, and had me hooked all the way to the end, but I'm really looking forward to this with a new main character, as it would really be stretching the plot to stick with the same characters again.

Fine, fine, you told me so. Even if you are exaggerating how much horrible doom I was prophesizing. I still maintain that if too many people imported, it would be bad for localization. One way or the other, this will be awesome.

And I don't remember people complaining that much about spelling errors on the import of Trials and Tribulations. I remember running into lots of spelling errors on the US version of Justice for All, but that's my only experience with it.

The trick to not getting tired of the gameplay is only to play one case at a time. I play one case (well, two, if one of them is the game's short intro case), and then play all the way through another game, then come back. It stretches the games out MONTHS, sure, but I'm in no rush, and it keeps them fresh.

Yeah, I know. I was just razzing you :)

It wasn't people here that were complaining about the translation on the import version. It was people over on the Capcom boards. There was one poster who, shortly after the game's release, had gone on and said how the game was great and the localization was fantastic but that they really needed to do something about the sheer abundance of typos. Someone from Capcom had put a post up basically saying that people who picked up the NA version of the game would be 'pleasantly surprised' by the quality of the localization in that version.

I remember a few people here had mentioned that post as making them somewhat hesitant to import the game. I'm just stating that the import's English dialog was near flawless, spelling-wise. There are probably more spelling errors in this post than in the import version of Trials & Tribulations.

Apollo Justice (aka Ace Attorney 4) was built from the ground up around the DS hardware. Granted, I'm sure you'll still see a lot of familiar faces and art styles... I wouldn't expect fully rendered 3D courtrooms or anything though.

i just finished case.... 3 (i think, one with the gay chef) on PW3 and it's been pretty freakin awesome. the length of those cases are so great.

the hottest character by far is Mia... >_< you see that art for her on the first case?! yeeooowch!

i don't know if i'm looking forward to a new defence attorney... i really like phoenix wright. theres such a great dynamic between him and maya (though she is not hot by a long shot) and i've become pretty attached to his spikey hair etc.

I hope he makes cameo appearances in the new game...

and i wish sam n max were on a portable. would be wickedfun.

and i laughed out loud when maya says (at blue-screen sudio inc) "this, this is madness!" and Phoenix responds, "this is SPARDA".. hahaha!

In the non-import version I've found at least one homophonous spelling mistake so far, and I've only completed the first two cases. I try to ignore and forget about them, because they can be supremely distracting, but I did catch one that I thought was rather blatant.

It's disappointing to know I could have played this game a couple of months earlier and had essentially the same experience. I am always leery of poor editing — it took me a very long time to bother reading past page 10 of The Half-Blood Prince.

there were a few spelling errors in the game i noticed but immediately forgot afterwards.Aside from that 'on' in place of 'no', the only spelling errors that I noticed all seemed to be either deliberate ones (they'd be commented on by Phoenix in the next line of dialogue, usually because they showed the person was stupid/clueless/what have you) or else they were because of a character's accent.

I seriously expected the game to be rife with speeling erooars, but it was essentially clean.
