Also on Gamecloud is a chat with Gizmondo's US PR rep Bryan Lam (http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=823), talking about the upcoming US launch of the Gizmondo portable game console.

Someone sold them the "One born every minute." handbook.

Okay I know it's a long shot but the stupid thing did play nice at E3.

The GPS thing and the Camera were very cool. The screen was pretty good the movie
I saw it playing looked great. Games kinda hard to say since they had no "franchise"
biggies. It was running some windows based games and looked okay.

They sure seem serious about getting this thing launched.

It haveing GPS and a camera make it more appleaing to someone who is looking for those items. I might pick one up just for that reason.

I'm not paying $250 for a portable advertizing station (in fact anyone who gets portable ads near me is going to have a smashed Gizmondo), and I'm not paying $400 period.

They sure generated a lot of noise at E3 with those white rappers on the stage lipsyncing some junk. I like how most people just stood there watching the rappers, using the console stands as elbow rests.

Whew, that interview was hard to read. That PR guy is so full of crap. Does he believe the stuff that comes out of his mouth? My favorite:

"Gizmondo units have been flying off the shelves. Gamers and tech enthusiasts alike are going craaaazy!"

Yes, crazy with four a's! Hot shit!

Was just gonna post that. That is utter insanity. Unless the games are fuckin' free.

Well, people buy DVDs with ads on them, and sit through ads before movies. Whats the bloody difference?

Not saying that I will buy one, because I will not. Then again, I do not buy DVDs with comercials on them.

Wow, yet another company with a sad attempt to crack into the portable gaming market.

That's why I still use an old dvd player. It's old enough where it lets me skip past the movie previews and commercials that newer dvd players force you to watch.

I'll wait and try to pick up a cheap used one. Trailblazer looks cool, very much my kind of techno-future racing game. But, like Wipeout Pure, it doesn't by itself justify purchasing the device.

when's this thing coming out in the U.S.? the ngage needs some company...

but seriously, this little thing is kinda cool that it does all that, but no way it'll last. the handheld market ain't gonna welcome it in with open arms.

I saw a video of this at E3. They were showing a sweet little augmented reality game on the gizmondo.

Get this...
The camera in the Gizmondo was being used for the display, like you were going to take a picture of something. They pointed the camera at special cards that have shapes printed on them. The cards come with the game. When the camera saw the shape, it projected a 3D image over the card in the system's display window, overlaying the game on real life.

Wild stuff!

I love this idea of reaching the game into real life. They have another one that allows you to 'tag' different parts of town in real-life using the camera and GPS system. You mark your turf with a series of GPS coordinates and photos. You and other players are notified when you enter each other's turf.

I was under the impression that its the DVD itself that won't allow you to skip forward, not the player. None of the DVDs I own force me to watch anything, but often the rentals from the store have trailers at the begining that you can't skip (you can however fast forward through it).

It is a bit of both. Newer DVDs have segments set with a 'flag' on them that makes them unskippable.

Older DVD players didn't respect such flags, and therefore ignore them. Since older DVD players didn't read the 'noskip' flags, they were never put on older discs, hence your ability to skip commercials on older DVDs.
