View Full Version : Xbox 360 – AV Hookup Costs Extra? [STUPID RUMOR]

Recently on Evil Avatar, an article about the Nintendo Revolution (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3865) sparked a discussion about Nintendo charging extra for an external Ethernet adapter and sony charging extra for a hard drive. Looks like Microsoft 1ups the competition by charging for the AV cables necessary to hook up to a monitor or TV. The recent packaging display makes no mention of the cables necessary to hook up the 360 to a display.

The packaging also reveals that the console will ship with a hard drive, wireless controller, Xbox Live, headset and Ethernet cable. Oddly, there was no mention of audio/video cables. That’s really weird. (http://www.gametab.com/news/328110/)While one could argue that the consumer can now decide which set of cables is best for their setup; one could also argue that the package itself should come with everything necessary to get up and running right away. How many people will open the 360 under the Christmas tree and then have to wait until the 26th to go get the cables necessary to hook it up?

Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/07/25/news_6129704.html) has the original story.

I'm thinking it still comes with the standard cables...since they aren't listed as an accessory. Someone is headline whoring me thinks.

On a side note, I finally figure out how to change the headline on the front page after something has been posted. Yay!

..one could also argue that the package itself should come with everything necessary to get up and running right away. This has been happening since consoles stopped being shipped with an included game.

Yeah, they don't list a POWER CABLE EITHER, but I'm fairly certain it'll come with one. :P

I think that the AV Hookup is so standard that they don't have the need to mention it.

I highly doubt they are going to ship the system without at the very least the most basic of cables. Rumor as it might be, it is rather hard to believe.

They'll probably bone you extra for a component or dvi cable, but I'd be amazed if you didn't get composite and s-video out of the box(no pun intended).

When you think about it, can't really blame them, there are just too many connector options on the display end of the equation.

It will include cables. Glad I could clear that up for you.

You cannot have an HD Console without an HD cable. If they can use the old X-box stuff I can see it but come on.

Microsoft already said in the TeamXbox interview that it comes standard with component.

Why Microsoft didn't include an all digital HDMI hookup in beyond me.

PS3 will.

This is the dumbest fucking news post EVER. This actually comes close to being the stupidest shit I've ever seen on the internet.

That is an easy answer. It doesn't make any sense to put an HDMI cable in every box when only 1 out of 100(number pulled out of my ass, but you know what I mean)people are going to use HDMI.

Same reason you see most of the other 'optional' accessories being 'optional'.

I did...just to point out it's a Rumor...and it's stupid. There are several other "news sites" reporting the same thing.

Don't count this out yet, Microsoft's video is done externally via the breakout box, so an HDMI solution is still possible.

Printers don't come with USB cables for the most part.

DVD players often don't come with RCA cables.

I wouldn't cry if it didn't include them, but I somehow doubt they would leave them out.

Blu Ray requires an HDMI connection to play movies, so this is why they would have to include the cable... IF, in fact, they include it. If there is a confirmation of that, I haven't seen it.

OMG *** is so money hungry. No A/V Cables or POWER CABLE?? It doesn't say face plate on there either, or case, so what, i just get all the hardware and i have put it together myself? PS3 ownz. This isn't even Xbox 1.5!! It's less!!

/Sarcasm.

Let me rephrase what I said. I just meant that the PS3 would have the ABILITY to use an HDMI connection. Speaking from personal experience, the jump in quality in audio/video from component to HDMI is rather obvious.

It supports up to 1080p and digital surround sound all in one wire.

I don't know that I really care about HDMI carrying 5.1 sound. I mean I've still got to run a seperate cable to my sound system unless I just want simulated 5.1 coming out of my TV speakers.

Really? Component standard with the system? Best news I've heard all week (though it is only Tuesday). It's the little things.

While I do find that sites like Gamespot are reporting this as "news" endlessly amusing (again in the "point and laugh" category), I am curious about what kind of cable hookup comes with the system as standard and if a computer monitor hookup will be available at the system launch.

A $250.00 flat screen 19" monitor is a hell of a lot better investment than a $900 HDTV.

In theory, if you have a 5.1 receiver, it should also be switching your video. In which case, you plug the HDMI from your console into the receiver, then you are done. This assumes that the receiver and everything is set up, and the receiver switches HDMI or DVI (I'm not sure how many receivers are available that have this capability). So it makes thing a little bit easier - in theory. Hopefully microsoft won't make it too hard to do everything - if they use a breakout box similar to the high end AV kit for the xbox then it should be a piece of cake to hook up a TV with Svideo or component and run a separate coax/optical line to your receiver.

okay so I go to E3. I have one and only one question. I wade through the largest collection of pasty, overwieght white boyz evar assembled in one place and fight my way into the *** booth to ask

"will I be able to hook XBOX 360 to my SONY G500 computer monitor."

"Just not sure on that one"

All righty then guess it moves from "must have" to "not sure"

Anybody here have a clue????

*off topic*
Also for the record John Allards head is really shiny. I mean really freaky shiny. When he did his little walk on for G4 TV. They had to spray dull coat on it.

I'm suprise not mentioning the A/V cable can cause such a ruckus, when it will be so obviously included. I mean, are we expected to buy the 360 without the manual, warranty card, or even a styrofoam since its also not listed?

Kelegacy

Someday when we buy consoles, it will just be the console in a box. You'll have to buy a controller, game, and every other piece of shit to make the thing run separately.

The good ol' days when companies included great stuff like games (at launch) is long past. Bitches.

Wouldnt you shit though, if the cable WASN'T included? If the next gen is that stingy, I will give them a great big "fuck ya" and purchase one much later. Or used. Or modded. Whatever.

Don't forget this assumes the receiver even supports HDMI in the first place. Many people won't have a receiver that does, but they will have one that most likely supports 5.1, and have bought their HDTV at another time.

It is like the great, "don't waste time on the manual, make them buy the strategy guide" conspiracy, heh.

PS3 will.Hey as long as they don’t make me pay for it the PS3 could include an HDTV. But if that HDMI hookup that most people won’t be able to use is one of the contributing factors to the system being $400+, no thanks I say.

I'd comment on the article but it's silly. Of course it'll come with component and composite, they've said so before. I wonder what it won't come with though, and why haven't they released a price point yet? There's only like 3 months left.

anakin876
07-26-2005, 02:55 PM
I wonder if they are still debating on things to include/exclude or if they are just holding off as long as possible to keep rivals from anouncing - afterwards - a lower price point. You'd think they would have manufacturing up and running soon, otherwise how will they ever meet the demand?

It's been known that component cables would come with the system for months. Just because some mock-up packaging dosn't say it's there is irrelevent.
