Penny-Arcade (http://www.penny-arcade.com) sends along word that Child's Play (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/www.childsplaycharity.org) 2007 has launched.

Child's Play (www.childsplaycharity.org (http://www.childsplaycharity.org)) is proud to announce the opening of its charity drive. The organization, which started as a fundraiser for the Seattle Children's Hospital, has since raised over two million dollars in toys, games and cash through its online toy drive and annual charity auction to over 45 hospitals worldwide.

"For the first ten months of the year, our community makes, plays and breathes games." said Kristin Lindsay at Child's Play. "Our holiday drive is not only an opportunity to share that joy with those that need it, but it's also a great way to show the strength of our culture."

Now in its fifth year, Child's Play has expanded its network of beneficiary hospitals to over 25 states and five countries across the globe with additional partner hospitals being added each month. Child's Play works in conjunction with Amazon.com to create wish lists for participating hospitals. Individual donors can choose to give new items ranging from toddler toys to music CDs, videogames, game consoles and accessories. Gifts are delivered directly to hospitals in need and are tax deductible as denoted by law.Give till it hurts or hurt someone till they give!

Wasn't there an idea floating around for an EvAv CP drive?

I've given to this charity every year since its inception and I'll be more then happy to continue to do so in the future!

That's a great idea. I swear that over the past couple of years I've given these sick kids more portable game systems and carts than I've bought myself in my lifetime. It'd be cool to band together for a massive Ev Av donation, or at least track the individual donations that way.

Yeah we are definitely going to go that route, along with I think, Child's Play auctions.

Yeah we are definitely going to go that route, along with I think, Child's Play auctions. Are we going to challenge any other communities to see who can raise the most?

I can't speak for everyone, but I don't know if we want any kind of animosity (even in the spirit of charity) between this community and another. What I would like to see is a challenge among yellows, oranges, pink/greens, and reds, to see which color can raise more. Something like that would be cool, I think.

Thats great. I haven't given before and now that I have had a real job for just over a year, I think it is time.

Is there going to be an official post about what we are doing for Childs Play (and more importantly how we can contribute)?

Some people may be wondering if they should wait to donate through EvAv as part of the contest/drive, or through the usual Amazon/Paypal routes. (Or both, which would be great, but may not be an option for everyone.)

I just noticed the CP site has a link to EvAv under the Press (http://www.childsplaycharity.org/press.php) page, but the URL doesn't work.

I'm donating to the Liverpool UK kids and the AZ kids - both places I love. I'll probably drop some cash into the PayPal around Christmas too! I love the way this gets people out and giving though, I love the fact a lot of normal charity drives look positively small compared to the guys who shell out at the big auction, it speaks loads about what gamers are really like when you push them, compared to what I think many consider us to be like.

Things like Child's Play make me proud to be a gamer.

It seems those havent been updated in a while. The link for 1UP says "Childs Play 2004 has started", so that is most likely the issue

This is my favorite charity. It always amazes me how much everyone is willing to give for it too. It makes me really happy. :D
