CVG informs us (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=174833)that Codemasters will be bringing some new content to it's strategy-RPG, Overlord, via Xbox Live.New content is coming though, just in time for Hallo-, oh, scratch that. It's coming sometime in November in the form of one free and two premium download packs (pricing hasn't been set yet).

The premium package is led by Overlord: Raising Hell, that adds new single-player levels. An additional premium pack, the Overlord: Challenge Pack will deliver new multiplayer maps.

The free one will add split-screen play to all original maps as well as introducing a new multiplayer survival map.
I had a blast with Overlord, but for some reason I never tried the multiplayer mode.

It has a multiplayer mode? On PC too?

Wow it does. I didn't know that. Looks like I have a new game to ad to my library and this time it wont cost $60.
Does anyone know if it is actual coop or just split screen verses?

I just stuck my head in here to ask if the rest of the game was as fun as the demo lead me to believe, and I'm glad to see that it even has multiplayer and coop. Rock.

Rock.I've briefly talked to a couple people that have it and they really like it. There is allot more depth in the full game because you get different minion types and there is some RPG style leveling to your overlord.

It's not as fun, as after a certain point, the devs decided that killing 10 of your minions at a time unexpedadly is fair and fun, taking away quite a bit of the fun when a monster just kills half your horde in less than a second.

The game is good fun until you get the blue minions, then it becomes shit.

I see Deadend's point, but I don't completely agree. It did get a lot harder all of a sudden, and you do have to spend a lot of time fighting arena battles just to keep your numbers up. But it was still a fun game in my opinion.

I'm curious...can you give an example of what you're talking about?

See, I found the game started to reach the peak of fun after you got all your minions. Learning to position them, getting behind enemies for backstabs, rushing your blues in for quick saves, setting your reds up to lay down covering fire...it wasn't Starcraft, to be sure, but there was some decent strategy to be had. I never really messed with the multiplayer much (the game really doesn't seem to be designed for it), but I'm all over new single-player maps.

And don't forget, it's on Gametap!

I liked the demo more than I thought I would and it's one of the games I'm probably going to pick up for cheap after the holiday rush. It's cool to see that they're adding more content.

I have been playing it on hard and mowing right through the levels only having to replay 1 mission a couple times. Then I hit this level that seems to be totally unbeatable even on medium. Now I don't mind a challenge but such a drastic change makes it feal like they were not play testing the game at all.

This really only happens "unexpectedly" the first time you meet a new enemy type (or should only happen the first time). Even then, first time enemy types should be treated with caution, if you don't want this to happen.

After a certain point, the game expects you to not always charge all your minions in willy nilly. Strategy is called for, you fish with a brown (or yourself) to draw an enemy into fire from your reds or sneak attacks from your greens.

I thought it was great design- you can be a bastard overlord and treat your minions as fodder, or carefully nurse them as powered-up resources. Interestingly, both strategies can work (thanks to the arena).

But if your fun factor goes down with the constant loss of your minions, then I think you have the mentality of the nursing overlord but the play style of the bastard overlord, not a good mix. Revel in the expendability of your minions, or learn to protect them.

The average from the Popular Opinion poll (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38394) is pretty decent, on the border between Good and Great. That thread also has a bunch of written opinions.

I honestly just thought that "I" (the overlord) was boring as hell to play after a while. 1 combo and a few spells? Come on at least since there are 3 weapons give the axe, sword, and mace a different animation.

I liked Overlord, but I started to get bored with it. I got to the desert area and haven't really played it since.

This was one of those games where I said 'I love the demo, but there's no way I can afford $59 right now when I've got a backlog of 3 other games to play. I'll buy it when I'm out of games.'

...Right. That was how many months ago?? Hell, friggin' BIOSHOCK got added to that list, which bumped Overlord down. Then came Halo 3, which has owned my soul.

I feel bad, I really liked the sense of humor in the demo and I hear the game itself is solid. I really want to support fellow developers who do cool and unexpected things.

If they cut the price to $39.99 I'd get it.

I love Overlord, and it only gets better once you have all four types of minions.

A word of warning to co-op fans. The game is NOT co-op. but it does have a few co-op maps.
