View Full Version : Kane & Lynch: Movin' On Up

November 20th - A date not soon forgotten in the minds (and wallets) of gamers. On that date we are to see the release of Rock Band, Mass Effect, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and Time Crisis 4.
We were to also expect Kane & Lynch on that date as well, however, they decided to move up a few days to November 14th, according to GameSpot (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6182049.html).
However, if executives at Eidos parent SCi Entertainment think November 14 is any less competitive, they are sorely mistaken. Super Mario Galaxy, Assassin's Creed, Crysis, BlackSite: Area 51, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2008, and Need for Speed: ProStreet all arrive during that week, which falls just after Call of Duty 4: Modern Combat hits stores.
Ahem...November - A month not soon forgotten in the minds (and wallets) of gamers.

You already broke my heart with your lack of Live co-op, Kane & Lynch. No amount of release date push ups can fix what we once had.

Don't they still have the online mode where team killing is a bonus, not a hindrance?

Something like that. Each member who gets TK'd comes back as a police officer.

Don't they still have the online mode where team killing is a bonus, not a hindrance?Yeah, a team based heist mode vs. the AI where the winner is the person who survives with the most loot. Getting the most loot just happens to be a matter of killing your teammates at the opportune moment seeing as you need them to conduct the actual heist. That and when you kill them, they join the AI in attempting to stop you.

For some reason, even though it's pretty much exactly the same - it sounds like a way more interesting Zombie mode of Halo 3.

I can't wait to see the top 10 lists for game sales in November...

Do you guys really intend to buy all of this stuff at once? Personally, I might pick up one or two games in a month. I can buy the other stuff later (or not) when things get slow. No reason to pay full price at launch when I won't even have the time to appreciate everything.

Any multiplayer game that can succesfully involve AI and players in any way is a plus for me.

I don't buy single player games as it is (which puts Mass Effect and Assassins Creed on the Gamefly back burner) but Kane & Lynch fell down a notch to rental status with the lack of online co-op.
Not sure what to do about CoD4 yet. Might have to donate plasma.

For me, it's trade-in time. I usually go through during the holidays and evaluate what should stay and what should go on my game shelf.

I only intend to get the multiplayer stuff(it expires!) at first. I'll wait for price drops for the rest of it unless I somehow run out of games to play(it would take a house fire).

I dedicate a lot of my money to gaming, but honestly, I can't justify buying 5+ games, including that whole Rock Band kit, all within 3 weeks of each other. I won't be able to play them all at once, so I'll try to spread them out over a couple months. With the exception of maybe COD and Mario, I don't see how all these games will put up very impressive numbers initially with all this competition at once.

For me, the local blockbuster will be loving me.
All I'm buying is Mass Effect and CoD4 since I know they'll be long term joys. The other games are all ones I can likely beat in a single rental.

I'm kind of the same way. Plus I always enjoy a game more when the rest of the gaming community is playing it and talking about it at the same time. I mean, Portal will be just as awesome a year from now, but I like getting all the references and stories that are floating around. I guess taking a ride on the hype wave is worth a little extra cash for me.

Split screen co-op only.
Alas, not all of the new details about the game's multiplayer options are good. Given that the game is so heavily reliant on the partnership of Kane and Lynch, one would think that online co-op for a pair of buddies would be a given. Not so, says game director Jens Peter Kurup in a recent interview (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=84918). While the game will still ship with local play for two players, there will be no online co-op. "It's a matter of focus, choosing what you want to deliver at what time," Kurup explained. "We looked at it and decided it was too much of a risk to change our code to be very very good at that, and we're not going to be very very good at other elements." Source (http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2007/10/09/kane-and-lynch-multiplayer-options-detailed). OXM (http://www.officialxboxmagazine.com/) confirmed it with their review of the game in this months issue as well.

I read somewhere that some lucky schlub had gotten a chance to play the game for about an hour and said something to the effect of, "I'll sell my kidneys if this isn't GOTY."

How many games deserving of better sales and more attention than they will inevitably get will November turn out? I'm guessing more than a couple. Publishers are idiots when it comes to release dates.

A good friend of mine composed the music for Blacksite and he said he was able to play through the whole game and essentially score it like a movie. He still had to follow the rules of multiple interchangeable tracks and such for interactivity, but he was able to write cues specifically for separate sections of the game. I guess this is rarely done and he'll be talking about the process at a game composer conference that's coming up. I can't wait to play it. He's working on Dead Space now and he says it's unbelievable.
