New high resolution screenshots of Resident Evil 5 have been posted on PS3.IGN (http://www.ps3.ign.com/) and Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/). The IGN screenshots can be viewed here (http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/734/734381/imgs_1.html) while the Gamespot screenshots can be seen here (http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/adventure/residentevil5/screenindex.html?part=rss&tag=gs_all_games&subj=6129679).
If anyone doubted how good this game look before, I dont think you will now. This screenshot (http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/734/734381/img_2932652.html) shows incredible detail.

Has this game actually been seen in real time yet? I mean, I am sure that games will look absolutely amazing in the next generation, but I can not help being skeptical about anything that looks this (http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2005/202/929198_20050721_screen003.jpg) good.

I'm not sure some of you know the difference between CGI, realtime, and in-game so here is an explanation,
CG(I) = Computer Generated (Imagery): Everything compiled by a computer and displayed on a screen. This includes, but is not limited to, real-time graphics, FMV, the GUI you're looking at now, 3D-graphics integrated in real movies, and technical demos.
FMV = Full Motion Video: CGI which is rendered off-line (as in not real-time) and streamed of some sort of medium. The intros of current and previous generation games are usually FMV, as is Final Fantasy: Advent Children and Pixars movies (The Incredibles, Toy Story).
Real-time = Real time rendered graphics: This is CGI rendered by the CPU/GPU of a given system. It may or may not be controllable. Examples include the non-interactive segments of MGS games and technical demos such as some of those (the bathtub, etc.) seen at Sony's press conference.
In-game = Real time rendered graphics based on a game-engine: As the description suggests, this is solely applied to gaming products. If it is a demo (such as those seen at E3 or beta-versions of games in development), it may or may not be controllable, but it is graphically equal or similar to the final product. Examples would be the playable segments of some of the games presented at E3 and all the products you've been playing on various systems through the years.
The RE5 clip was real time or in other words it was rendered on the consoles hardware, not on farms of computers like FMV is.

What kind of question is that? What kind of answer are you expecting? Nothing's wrong with me. The article's subject is making claims that these are screenshots (insinuating gameplay), which they are not. If you disagree, say so, don't act like I'm retarded or something.

I agree with you. I think these are about as "real" as that Killzone trailer.

That's the silliest thing I've read in... oh say a day (it is the internet after all  ).
I guess we should crown Sony the winner by releasing a bunch of pre-rendered trailers, versus some real running games from Microsoft and no hype whatsoever from Nintendo.
Yeah, they're dead alright...
Maybe we should actually wait until the games come out on real hardware before we judge.

let's say those graphics aren't real and in-game, and the final product visually looks worse...it's still gonna rock. graphic-whores nitpick over stuff like this. of course it's not a 100% representation of what the final product will look like. the ps3 isn't even done yet. it's nice and shiny to build hype, and it's doing a good job of it. the real fun is in the gameplay, the new life they breathed into the series with RE4. (do i sound too much like nintendo now?) :p
unless their goal is to make the game suck, i'm sure i'll be happiliy kicking more zombie ass next year.

I seriously doubt that this is CGI, It looks like realtime rendered graphics to me. If you look at the guys ear, it dosent look like CGI. According to IGN and gamespot, it's real.

That screenshot looks amazing but the scenery looks somewhat pre-rendered. Of course, I don't really know for sure.
With so much crazy scenery though, it makes me want/hope for a better physics engine. Who cares if that stuff is pretty if you can't interact with it? It might as well be pre-rendered then.

well I know Sony is teaming up with Havok (half life 2 physics engine), AGEIA, and SN systems for physics. So I dont think you need worry about ps3 games not having good physics, I dont know what kind of physics MS and Nentendo are useing.

Developers use middleware for physics like Havok was used for half life 2. Some devs use their own physics programs but some dont. Sony is providing physics programs with it's dev kit (otherwise known as development tools).

All that means is developers won't have to fuss about getting their own Havok support. That doesn't mena MS and Nintendo games wont' have Havok physics in them.
StrifeSnake13*

None the less sony is providing development tools and is paying money for the tools so Devs don't have to. I dident say that Nintendo and MS wont have havok, I said I don't know what nintendo and MS are doing.
The new collaboration gives SCEI sublicensing rights of physics and animation engines for the PlayStation 3 in addition to all related content and debugging tools developed by Havok itself. This means that optimized libraries of the Havok physics and animation engines, linkers, and debuggers will all be included within the PS3 SDK. Frontline support will be provided by SCEI directly......
Our agreement with SCEI opens the door for all PS3 developers to use Havok to create spectacular game worlds with incredibly realistic special effects and interactive game characters."
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/635/635488p1.html
Sony has obtained the sublicensing rights for the AGEIA PhysX SDK (aka NovadeX) for use in its own PlayStation 3 SDK (software development kit). PhysX is a highly-respected development solution that allows for easy in-game physics and is used quite often in engines such as Unreal 3.0 (which was also announced as one of Sony's new strategic sublicenses).
Apparently, the reason Sony wanted to incorporate the PhysX SDK into its own toolset is because of the kit's multi-threading capabilities (which make it ideal for the multi-tasking beast that is the Cell processor).

Draft, all we watched he was an intro. We don't even know much about the gameplay, except that there's a large chance it'll be a similar control scheme to RE4 and that, apparently, zombies will move extra-fast. But yeah, it'll still probably kick some ass.

Yeah, I mean, game's a few years out at this point. Clearly it's a cut scene, maybe even just a tech demo, but who cares. RE4 pwned hard, and barring some collosal fuck up, RE5 will own hard too.

You're right, it was late and I was/am sick of all the random lashing outs that have seemed to hit the boards as of late. Minute one doesn't agree with another, the troll comes out and things start to fly. As I'm not in high school anymore, I have no desire to have to listen to people throw a hissy and attack others for some sort of strange glorification. Hurray for the O.C.

The really amazing thing is that they've managed to make a photorealistic human, complete with flowing hair and tears in his eyes, walk like a remote-control vacume cleaner. Left = rotate left, Right = rotate right... just like in real life!
Oh, and since I haven't worn THIS point flat yet, lightbulbs will STILL be rocket-proof.

2. Will this be the first in the series 1-4 forget the first person shooter one to allow strafing?

I thought they changed the control scheme to be more intuitive in RE4? I haven't had the opportunity to try it out yet so I could be wrong. The control scheme is basically the same. Left and right rotates, forward and back move you... forward and back. The thing is, with the new camera angle and aiming system, the old controls feel better. More natural.
edit: RE is not a first person shooter and it does not need strafing, just like metroid prime does not need dual analog controls.

um, strafing isn't a quality soley for first person shooters, it is a tactical movement that one uses in real life everyday. I'm sorry but I don't enjoy moving a character around like he's some sort of tank I believe that humans are capable of far more deft movements than spin around and MUST having to face the direction you are moving in in order to move in that direction.
This is the same kind of idiot thinking like not being able to shoot while moving which was in the earlier games.
Versatility is fun, options are fun, not being able to side step in a game that requires you to be merciless with concerving ammo is like walking around with a crutch.

If you could strafe you'd just keep circle-strafing around all the enemies and mowing them down.
This makes the game much less tense and scary.
In Resi 4 they originally added strafing but saw that it made the game way too easy. They spent ages refining the control system to get the right balance of mobility and handicaps so increase the tension in the game. Anone who doesn't believe me rwad the making-of inteview in 'Edge' magazine about 5 issues back.

Exactly. Part of the game's design is that you can't move while aiming. I'm not saying that they shouldnt put in strafing, I'm saying that RE4 didn't need it. Maybe RE5 will.

a. it is letterboxed
b. there is no UI
c. it is obviously a cutscene
d. i am not impressed. all they're showing you is the resolution increase from this generation to the next. they're not showing you enhanced geometry, enhanced ai, or ultimately enhanced gameplay.
RE4 is excellent. RE5 will probably be good too, but a handful of screenshots from a cutscene can't be used to make that judgement.

They spent ages refining the control system to get the right balance of mobility and handicaps so increase the tension in the game.I see what you’re saying but I think there’s a far better way they can add challenge to the game without just making the controls clunky. Make the enemies more numerous/intelligent, make the situations more startling rather than just gimping the player’s ability to move. I like the RE series, but it would be more fun if the controls were better instead of part of the challenge of the game. Now there are many ways to do strafing that don't end up with people running full speed sideways getting headshots, there are ways you can do it and keep the suspense.
