Warner Brothers (http://www2.warnerbros.com/main/homepage/homepage.html) has just released the first trailer (http://vforvendetta.warnerbros.com/trailer.html) for V for Vendetta. The movie is based off of the DC comic book limited series written by Alan Moore.
The series was great, hopefully the movie will at least do a decent adapation of it. However, I believe I read somewhere that Moore has disowned the movie.

This is a Wachowski Bros. production. :) It should be pretty good. If you aren't reading Shaolin Cowboy then "Get thee hence to a comic book purveyance anon!"

Yeah, like usual Moore got into a tizzy because they didn't follow his work to the letter. And don't get me wrong, I love the guy and it's totally his call to do so. I'm just saying that he's especially anal about his work being true to source, so it's not a surprise.

Damn, Natalie Portman is HOT! Oh, and the movie looks promising as well.

Wow, I had never heard of this movie before now, but that looks pretty cool. Natalie Portman sounds a little cheesy pulling off an english accent, but otherwise it looks good.
The trailer was actually a lot better than I expected it to be. However, the fact that Moore is displeased has me terrified because the comic was absolute perfection. If this turns out to be anything like the League film, I'm gonna hunt some people down.

People are going to have a shit fit about this movie. The hero straps bombs to his chest! The heroine is a terrorist! AHHHHHH!
I loved the comic, this looks good too.

two steps forward, one step back. and I thought these movies were growing up. I'll keep my mouth shut until the movie comes out. If this is a shitfest (which I'm planning on it being, so maybe if it's not, the I'll be excited), then I guess it will do away with any hope that Watchmen will be good. Hey, I'm always down for a surprise.
By the way, the Wachowski brothers are hacks. They didn't write the first Matrix, or even come up with the concept. It was Sophia Stewart. That's probably why the second two movies sucked, because they weren't written by her. This movie reeks of hollywood masked by accents. Ok, done with little rant, got it out of the way, I'll save myself for the movie now.

Yeah, he sounds pretty crazy about this kind of stuff. Then again, can you blame him after how badly League of Extraordinary Gentlemen turned out?

Why's the film doomed?
I dunno, I've read a couple reviews by people who've read the script online. Those are always to be taken with a grain of salt, of course, but they've been mixed but mostly hopeful/good. I'll be waiting till the movie comes out to see how it is.

It reeks of Van Helsing, a film made up of fan service and "cool" people/stuff. Besides, as said the creator has already disowned it.
This never should have been made into a movie. They're turning a cautionary tale of totalitarianism into an action blockbuster. I guess it might be okay if you accept that it will never handle the ideas introduced in the graphic novel but if you have greater expectations you're going to be disappointed.
I think it's very telling that Moore has disowned the production since up until now he has taken a very "hands off" approach to film adaptations of his work. He believes that once he gets the cheque his involvement is over and they could turn it into an instructional video on breeding flying monkies and he wouldn't care. I'm guessing this film runs so counter to the original anarchist message that he felt he had to make a statement.

But as was also said, Moore is extremely (and rightfully) touchy about his properties being turned into movies, among other things. This could be an example of creator turning against the film because it's a bastardization of his original, or it could just be him being cranky.
I've only been following the production on and off though, so I really have no idea what to expect or what would give you the Van Helsing comparisons.

That's what people said of Catwoman.
A) Nathalie Portman played on only one good movie: Leon.
B) That a pretty ridiculous reason to watch a movie.

Not really. He got into a tizzy because Warner (owners of DC comics, who he has had problems with in the past) attempted to put positive words about the movie in Moore's mouth. He's quite okay with ignoring the movies, but he's not going to whore himself for them and he's not going to have his name falsely used for publicity purposes.

Makes sense. He has had a lot of problems with DC in the past. It's a miracle that he still does most of his writing for Wildstorm and Vertigo (both DC imprints).

Who says I'm going to watch it? And Halle looked like shit as Catwoman. Hell, it's just been downhill for her since Bond really.

Which ironically made the second half of the last Bond movie horrible to standards.
As far as I am concerned the only reason her celebrity popped up so high was her talent for showing titty in Swordfish.

Haven't read V for Vendetta yet but that trailer didn't impress me.
The fact they dedicated about 5 seconds of it to watching swords spin through the air about summed it up for me.
Natalie Portman gets her hair shaved off, how deep and foreboding!
I guess it could still possibly be alright but from what I've seen I doubt it.

Umm....Closer? From a writing perspective, that film is fantastic as is the acting. Garden State? Heat?
Yes, one good film.

Not for much longer. He owes them one more League outing (to be released as a standalone graphic novel) and then he's off to Top Shelf.
When he agreed to work for Wildstorm, it was not owned by DC, btw. And I don't think he's ever written anything for Vertigo. They may have re-released some of his older stuff under the Vertigo imprint (perhaps Swamp Thing?), but I think he was done with DC before the imprint existed.
One other interesting wrinkle in the whole Moore/movie biz thing is that he was sued by someone who claimed that the screenplay for the League movie was not Moore's. 20th Century Fox settled with the person who brought the suit, ridiculous as it seemed. See the link in posts above for the whole story.

That makes sense, except about only owing them one more League thing -- Moore has been doing tons of stuff with Wildstorm/DC. His recent Top Ten books (of which there seem to be plenty) are one example. Another is the new mini-series he just started, Albion. And I think he's releasing some new Tomorrow Stories stuff. Don't get me wrong, I know he's had problems with DC, but it doesn't seem like he's trying to get out of their hair, so to speak, very quickly.

ah, i'd just asked about this here (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3533&page=7&pp=10) . as i said there, i think it could be good, though i don't know how much it's going to have in common with the book - which is a pretty bad start...

Personally, I think it looks pretty cool.
Will it be a perfect adaptation of the comic book? No, probably not...but we'll always have the book. The movie will be a take on the story, a version of it. It'll probably be more action-oriented than the comic, but it appears that it might just manage to keep some of the more thought-provoking aspects relatively intact.
Some may call the Wachowski's hacks, but they managed to make at least one good movie...
Besides, at least they got V's costume right; in fact, they managed to pull it off in an entirely believable manner as far as I can tell. It's the type of costume that could look incredibly hoaky and cheesy...but it looks like they've at least done that part justice.
