Gamespot is reporting (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/07/22/news_6129642.html) that Prince of Persia is coming to the DS. But not quite how you'd expect.

Battles of Prince of Persia will stray from the franchise's traditional acrobatic action and take a mellower path. Battles will be a turn-based strategy game with a card system. Cards are acquired by progressing through the single-player campaign, and they can be used in competition or traded with friends through the wireless multiplayer support.

The story takes place between the plots of The Sands of Time and its sequel, Warrior Within. The prince unwittingly unleashes a great evil, spurring a war between Persia and India. Gamers will be able to play as nine different generals leading their respective armies on their various conquests for power.

Though this comes as a bit of a shocker, checking out the screenshots it looks like it could kick some ass. I definitely dig the art style.

As long as I'm able to be as awesomely alternative and moody and edgy as in PoP 2, I'll be A-OK.

How many great evils is the Prince going to unleash? Honestly he should just stay home and never leave his room.

I doubt it. In the thirty or forty years I've known Justin, I don't think he's ever cracked a smile much less a joke.

I eagerly await the death of the "card combat" genre.

I'd probably argue that, but admittedly only because I'm sane.

I'm not sure if I should try and prepare for a fight or nod back.

I agree. For some reason I love these card combat games, I still don't know why but I do.

I have no interest in this at all , POP would be nice on DS. It would be great if they also made a new 2D version like they did with the mario series.

I like the hand-drawn backgrounds. I am really curious about how it will play.

Speaking of card games, why isn't there a Magic: The Gathering DS game in the works? I can't afford the cards anymore, so Magic Online is out, but a DS version would probably destroy my life. Especially with 6 player wi-fi and online play.

You know, this would make perfect sense!

Imagine having the bottom screen what is in your hand and the top screen show the play fields.

There should be all kinds of card games for the DS. You could play them online. It would be perfect!

Well, I would be perfectly jobless and homeless, anyway.

Amen to that, amen to that...

Personally, I can't see a whole genre dying. When has a genre ever died? I mean, I guess the most popular example is the death of the adventure game, but even then adventure games still exist, there just aren't many or many good ones. And they are bound to have a resurgance at some point. Same with any genre that has "died" or ever will "die." So, it's a pretty unlucky wish to be burdened with is, I guess, what I'm saying.

Ok, well maybe I don't want the entire genre to die, but damnit, I want it to get better.

I really do understand your sentiments. It's like me and the sports genre. I could care less if it popped out of existence. But I realize it probably won't. Although with that genre, I doubt it will ever get anywhere near a state that people could misconstrue as "dead." Sadly.

Yep, another genre that is dead to me.
