Battlefield 2™ Patch v1.03
EA and DICE are happy to announce that the Battlefield 2 1.03 patch is in development.

Here's a message from EA and DIVE to our Battlefield 2 fans:

Hi everyone, and thanks for supporting BF2. Thanks to all of you out there, BF2 has seen great success around the world and we’d like to thank you all for that.

Since its launch, we’ve tried to give BF2 all the support it deserves by releasing patches with the fixes and improvements you’ve asked for. Unfortunately, we haven’t lived up to the standards we’ve set for ourselves and we know that. So all of us at EA and DICE are working extra hard to make sure that the BF2 experience improves dramatically in the coming weeks.

Towards the end of August, we will be releasing a new patch, 1.03. This patch is currently underway and will undergo thorough testing before it goes out to avoid the problems that have occurred in the past. There are over 140 fixes and improvements in this patch. Here are just a few of them:
Server and Client performance improvements.

Improved Server Browser - added Favorites and History Lists.

Point-farming prevention - game will stop Support/Medic/Engineer point farming exploits.

Squads - locked squad leader will get a message if someone wants to join.

Many HUD improvements - see the names of others in your vehicle, zoom level changing depending on vehicle, map zoom depending on map setup (16, 32 or 64 player map) etc.

Teamkilling changes - the logic of how teamkills are tracked will be changed.

Gameplay tweaks - the way transport helicopters work will be tweaked.

Additional scoring changes - players who destroy an enemy commander's assets will be given points.
There are many, many more fixes that will be included in the patch but we’re looking forward to everyone moving to 1.03 to get the best BF2 experience out there on a level, cheat-free playing field.

We also know that there is still an issue with availability of slots on Ranked Servers. We’re all delighted that this new feature has been so popular, but we know that many of you are finding it hard to get onto a ranked server, especially at peak times. We are taking big steps and investing heavily to ensure that everyone can experience this side of BF2. New official servers have gone up in Europe and the US this week and you will see many more going up in the coming weeks. Our vision is to make sure you never have to wait to get onto a ranked server so you can enjoy the game at its best, and we will work to make that happen.

Thanks for being such fans of BF2. We’ve been listening to you and we’re determined to make BF2 the best online shooter experience out there. We hope you like the changes that are coming.

Very glad to hear that they are making changes to how teamkills work and also happy to hear that blowing things up like radar, and artillery will now give points.

I keep getting kicked out of the game, something about PBuster auto update timing out after 2 minutes... even after I manually updated it already ...

You behind a firewall or something? Maybe it is a port block or something?

Oh, check the pb config files, if you're comfortable with that and if they use FQDNs instead of IP addresses, make sure they resolve. Your source for DNS could be messed up.

This is definitely a step in the right direction. I especially like seeing the name of the person in the vehicle with me.

Also the tking thing really needs to be fixed.

Now if they can just make the commander interface better...

That is asking too much of them, I'm sure Dice is planing new expansion pack something like BF2:Napoleon.

I'd be great if that Server History tracking bit actually tracked manual IP joining as well as showing the server's settings.

This patch looks like it will be teh awesome. Oh, and AAA Vehicles need to do way more damage than they currently do with their main guns. Helicopters should fear them.

I agree. I love wreaking havok in a helicopter, but I also hate being.... wreaked upon? There needs to be more effective AA options.

Helicopters are WAY to freaking powerful for their mobility. I have yet to ever shoot down a plane with AA fire.

I've gotten jets a couple times with SAM sites, and a couple of times with AAA vehicle missles.

I've gotten choppers lots of times with SAM sites, and a couple of times with AAA vehicle missles.

I don't think I've even HIT a plane with AAA cannon fire. I have knocked down a couple of helicopters with cannon fire.

I have seen an F-35 (inbound on a bomb run) shot down with a sniper rifle. It, Was, Awesome.

I am, however, a fucking sniper with the Eryx when it comes to blackhawks and cobras. I love knocking those bastards down and killing the gunners and or passengers with a well fired AT missle. Which brings me to a good point. If you shoot down a helicopter/jet with anything other than AAA or SAMs, you should get Anti-Aircraft points.

oh, and there's a nasty fucking exploit with the blackhawks/hips going on. Load them up with some engineers, and the non-gunners can repair the blackhawk as it's taking damage in mid air. In a helicopter duel last night, us in a Z-10 vs a Blackhawk fully loaded, I was putting overheat after overheat into him with the chin turret at close range, and I was unable to knock him down. He'd start to smoke badly, I'd overheat, and the two engineers inside would repair the 'hawk.

Eventually, my pilot said "TV Guided Missle!" (because well, I suck with the TV guided munitions). Third shot wiped that fucking blackhawk off the map, with a full load of crew on board. I would have loved to have heard them on voice comms... haha it was awesome.

Yay! At least this patch actually addresses some of the REAL concerns the community is having. Esp: points for destroying enemy assets, seeing who's in vehicle, point farming, etc.

Repairing your helicopter in-flight isn't an exploit, it's common sense.

The next patch sounds great, looking forward to it. Hopefully performance improves as well, gameplay on ranked servers can get pretty jumpy at times.
