Codemasters Online is pleased to announce that RF Online is now a completely free-to-play MMORPG with the full game now available for download with no monthly subscription required.

RF Online is an epic mix of traditional fantasy and futuristic Sci-Fi set in the deep space galaxy of Novus where three races compete in an ultimate struggle for power and resource. Celebrating the games re-launch, new players can now also experience the all-new free expansion, Episode II: Pioneers of Novus available for free to all players of the game.

From what I remember, this game is beautiful. A lot like Lineage 2, but it's also a lot like Lineage 2 in the sense that it's a Korean grind-fest/full-out PVP game. I recall that the only skill needed for PVP was how fast you can spam the potion button, haha. But that was a while ago, the game could have changed since then.

So, what are we looking at? Microtransactions? Expansions that are free, but introduce a monthly fee like Anarchy Online? Or ads, perhaps?

Whatever it is, I'm all for it.

I almost bought this back when it came out. I'll be putting it on my list of things to play after I complete Orange Box. :D

I remember being interested in this game back when it first came out, but the reviews of it were so-so. But at a cost of free, it's worth a look for sure.

If you enjoy Ultra-Hardcore grinding - RF Online is for you. I watched my Chinese co-worker "play" this game for months in a minimized window. Yes, it was minimized but his character was mining or something that requires your character stand there in game for hours and hours.

WTF??? Then I watched combat and it was sleep-inducing. Slash-slash-STAB, Slash-slash-STAB, Slash-slash-STAB, Slash-slash-STAB, Slash-slash-STAB, Slash-slash-STAB, Slash-slash-STAB, Slash-slash-STAB, Slash-slash-STAB, Slash-slash-STAB, Slash-slash-STAB, Slash-slash-STAB, Slash-slash-STAB, Slash-slash-STAB, Slash-slash-STAB, Slash-slash-STAB, Slash-slash-STAB FOREVER

Literally the same 3 actions for months!

It was kinda dull, but perhaps if we get an EvAv group together for this title it might not be "that" bad.

Ha!, it would have to be pay-me-to-play for me to go back to that grind fest.

I heard pvp is pretty fun but you can only do it at lvl 30 I think.
There is a possibility you might go mad before then.

This game has fantastic graphics and is fun to play. Great music, cool weapons, and awesome character designs. Even the battle system is fun.

This is the only korean game I like.

Since it's free, I'll at least try it.

I'll try it again now that it's free (played a trial or open beta once long ago), but I must say my memory of it goes like this:

Woah, playable mechs. Grind-grind-grind-grind-grind-grind-grind-grind-grind-grind-grind-grind-grind-grind-grind-grind grind-grind-grind-grind-grind-grind-grind-grind-grind-grind-grind...

Ugh, another MMO to try. The screenshots, they haunt me.

I've actually been having a blast with Freestyle Street Basketball lately. So many MMO's so little time.

You'd really be better off paying $15 for WoW or CoH/CoV... much in the same way that you would be better off paying $5 for a fastfood meal than digging someone's scraps out of the trash.

I had forgotten about the WTF-inducing launch-menu music.

Seriously. I don't get it. And I can't turn it off while the game patches.

EDIT: also patching takes forever arrrrrgh

Update: Even though I was able to resurrect my level 7 character from the last time I played, and even though you can wield spears and be a fighting robot - two qualities that are worthy of praise -,

I regret bothering with RF Online at all.

you don't even have to spam your pots anymore, they've made it so that you can auto-drink when your energy / health gets below a certain point.

Well, I will at least give it a looksee, it can't hurt when it is free.

Hmm, might give this a shot if I can get the time. Free is good, but so many games to play.

Is anyone other than me waiting for forever for the damn "verify your email" email?

Dude, you're better off never getting the email, this game sucks absolute balls.

No wonder it's free.
