Capcom Announces Street Fighter 4 and more

The following were announced at Capcom's Gamer's Day in London:

Street Fighter 4
Development has just begun and the release of the game is more than a year away. No platforms are yet confirmed - a highly stylised animated concept trailer of Ryu and Ken fighting was shown, but no game footage. (Trailer Here (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37910))

Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice
A new character and new series starring a rookie lawyer. Phoenix Wright makes an appearance but is not the lead character. Made specifically for DS.

Lost Planet (PS3)
Available early next year and will include all bonus characters from the PC version and extra downloadable content from the 360 version making it the complete package. Made possible with Blu-ray. 16 player online over the PSN.

Dark Void
A new sci-fi action-adventure IP. Trailer showed third-person and air-vehicle gameplay with a character wearing a steam punk jetpack, skydiving and landing in the cockpit of a gyroscopic aircraft, and then jumping and climbing through airbase fortesses.

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD (Xbox Live Arcade)
The game will feature a spectator mode and is scheduled for a 2008 while the team try and get zero lag for the online mode. Also features stat tracking and widescreen. Original music from Street Fighter 2 will be used, plus remixed versions of all those tunes.

Wii Love Golf
From the Everybody's Golf team comes a cutesy golf sim, that looks slightly more technical than the PlayStation versions. Sf3: 3rd strike is worlds better than SF2.

Its just in the US sf3: 3s came out at the decline of the arcades so most people just remember their true love SF2. But, sf3: 3rd strike was a revolutionary step forward.

Sf2 gets mad props for being the first, and for being an amazing game still though.

I love the street fighter series. And Street Fighter 3 was the arcade title that I spent many a quarter playing on saturday mornings at the local Putt Putt Golf and Games. Sure I played SF2 and even SF but I think I had the most fun with the SF3 series and hope that in SF4 the timeline is pushed abit and we get to see some more of the older fighters aged with a good mix of new fighters.

All the other things listed don't really interest me. Didn't really care of Lost Planet to begin with so going on the PS3 just means more will get to enjoy it at least.

No Dead Rising 2 blows. It's still the best example of why we need next-gen power (Overlord and Splinter Cell (next year's) also have that 'so much happening an old system would explode' quality).

Wii Love Golf is the only currently announced Capcom title I'm sold on. The Wii needs some real games that mix the fun of the Wii-Sports demo disc with some real depth of gameplay, and the Hot Shots/Mario Golf games were loaded with depth under their silly exterior.

Other than golf, Bionic Commando is the only Capcom title I even care about, and it's way too far off to get overly excited about. Hopefully they're just keeping quiet on Dead Rising 2 to avoid pulling attention from Resident Evil 17...

There are kids playing videogames that weren't born the last time a new Street Fighter came out (excepting the thousands of compilations and remixes). Of course I'd rather have Marvel Vs Capcom 3, or a new Capcom vs SNK, but this is good too.

I am tempted by the updated SFII HD, but I still feel ripped off from the first Live Arcade version of Street Fighter II. Lost Planet on PS3 comes as no surprise, I just wonder if the same will be true for Dead Rising 2. And although the series may need a shakeup, I will miss Pheonix Wright, and his Sonic the Hedgehog styled hair.

I loved Lost Planet. The story/plot was kinda poor, but it's not often I like the story in Japanese games anyway. The action is awesome though, both when you're on foot and in the mechs. I also like the huge bosses.

It is. However, there was only one fundamental flaw. The falling down animation. Fuck, you spend half the game watching your guy falling on his ass and being unable to move, which just gets to be intolerable in later fights once things get crazy. It was totally unnecessary.

The SF4 trailer is a bit disconcerting. First off, the realization that it'll likely be in 3d bothers me, as 2d-sprites are where its at. Second, it'll be developed by Capcom USA, the folks behind Final Fight Revenge and Street Wise, since they have the rights to the SF franchise. Third, Ryu and Ken didn't look like Ryu and Ken, at least as envisioned by Akiman. I got a fan video vibe it, which scares me.

Actually, there is no Capcom USA development house, after Final Fight Street Wise, they closed up shop. Capcom USA may still have the rights, but they could outsource the game to any number of devs, Japanese or otherwise.

And that Trailer DID look like Akiman's work, there's a specific drawing he did of Ryu that looks like it was carbon-copied to be the Ryu in this trailer.

You can rip on Lost planet. A lot of people didn't like the game. I thought it looked fantastic and had extremely immersing environments. But Calling RE4 a generic shooter? You are smoking crack.Lost Planet was crap. It was slightly more interesting by BRUTE FORCE.

And RE4 was definitely not a generic shooter. FEAR and TIMESHIFT (generic shooters) were far more interesting to me than RE4. Granted, RE4 started great - but imo it completely fell apart when you left the initial village and the 'story' cut-scenes kicked into full gear. The end result of going from 'almost great' to 'obnoxious' is worse than just starting off with 1 decent gimmick and ok production values throughout. (though I'm probably also in the minority on thinking FEAR wasn't anything special)

I'm assuming Lost Planet was the big announcement indeed. The rest of it is MEH to me. Especially the Wii Love Golf.

Street Fighter 4! That definitely had me going as I was a big SF fan back in the day and still am!

I'm not exactly great at fighting games but I do have fun with em and the Evolution videos are great. Daigo's massive comeback with Ken being one of the coolest gaming moments I've ever seen.

I thought that the killing offense was for saying that you liked the PS2 version better. Or was it the reverse? I can never tell with Capcom fans.

I played the Gamecube version, but I'm no Capcom fan. So I really don't know how it works.

Actually, there is no Capcom USA development house, after Final Fight Street Wise, they closed up shop. Capcom USA may still have the rights, but they could outsource the game to any number of devs, Japanese or otherwise.

And that Trailer DID look like Akiman's work, there's a specific drawing he did of Ryu that looks like it was carbon-copied to be the Ryu in this trailer.

The only part of the trailer that looked remotely like Akiman's style of work was the moment where Ken grins after attempting to punch Ryu and he dodges the attack. If you're referring to the front facing view of Ryu as he does a block, I'd argue that while the pose was right, it didn't look like Ryu, save for a gi and headband. Ryu and Ken seemed distinctly...American with regards to the style of their 3d models.

SF3: Third Strike was better. Really.

The Third Strike scene has been picking up steam in the last few years. I'm hoping that will push the direction of SF4 towards the more hardcore fighting audience/tournement scene.

We will have to wait and see if they attempt to reach out to new players by making a more 'newbie friendly' fighting game, like DoA, Guilty Gear or to a lesser extent, Tekken.
