IGN.com has posted the first trailer for Resident Evil 5 (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/635/635504p1.html).

I remember back from my days at pign.net that there was an url also registered... residentevil5.com...

great, IGN is going slow as hell and Gamespot doesn't have it posted yet. *sigh*

you're not missing anything, is just a bit of pre-rendered video, no actual gameplay.

Ah, well no big deal then.

Looks nice, though. Hope the actual game ends up being as great as RE4 was.

I thought the zombies were the old, slow kind, but then they run quite fast at the end.

Well it's the same team as RE4, so I'm pretty sure it will at least be as-good if not slightly improved.

Fairly certain it's the same team. At least I haven't heard anything suggesting otherwise.

Um, I'm not sure what gave you the impression that it's pre-rendered. Looks fairly in-engine to me. That has a ton in common with the RE4 cutscenes, which were in-engine. I saw nothing about it which looked pre-renderred.

Looks quite good, too.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I think very few memebers of the RE4 team are involved with RE5 currently. Shortly after Capcom blindsided Shinji Mikami by announcing a PS2 port of RE4, he left with Hiroyuki Kobayashi, the producer of RE4, to work exclusively with Clover studios; Viewtiful Joe, Okami.

Shinji Mikami directed RE4, and the team that he lead was Production Studio 4, RE5 is confirmed to be developed by Production Studio 1.

I would be greatly surprised if RE5 turns out to close to 4 in quality.

How about the fact that everything was obviously scripted, there was no interface, etc.? It may be a cutscene rendered ingame by the engine, but it is still just a cutscene.

...of course it looks good. :-)

Eep. Mikami's not on anymore? I dunno how I didn't hear about that. This is troubling news indeed. What else has the mysterious "Production Studio 1" done?

Let's hope they didn't hand it to the Killer7 or Devil May Cry 2 team!

I'm gonna play fanboy and live in a world where I believe that's gameplay! :p

"Live in your world, play in ours!"

I concur, at least based on the facts we know so far.

Mikami despises Sony and refused to have any of his titles go to their platform. That's why all the cool original Capcom games were announced as Gamecube exclusives at one time. I don't know why he hates sony though. Does anyone know the backstory?

I believe Sony killed his father.

I can confirm this.

If I recall, he accused them of making PS2's prone to breaking down, simply because it would force consumers to keep buying the system. He was also unhappy with how difficult the PS2 was to develop for and for being underpowered when it launched.

So when Capcom asked for him and Production Studio 4 to port it to the PS2, for the main reason that Capcom had been loosing a lot of money and it's stock was going down due to some bad property investing in and around Japan, he was pretty steamed. Simply because he and Kobayashi had been saying for months and months that RE4 was exclusively for the GameCube, then the heads of Capcom pass down an order at the last second, telling him he now has to port it for Sony.

From that point, he left from Capcom's main Production studios, and now works exclusively at Clover.

Interesting stuff, but why is Okami currently PS2 exclusive and not Gamecube exclusive if he hates Sony so much?

The producer has worked on Resident Evil 1, Resident Evil 2, Street Fighter 2 and Onimusha.

So no, I'm not worried.

Yes, it was a cutscene, but it wasn't pre-rendered. That, by definition, means that it was not in-engine, which this, as far as I can tell, certainly was. It's a legitimate complaint that it didn't have gameplay footage, but it's inaccurate to call it 'pre-renderred.'

It's an early trailer verifying what we all knew, but ain't it nice to be verified anyway? Come on, RE4 was a great game, my personal pick as game of the generation, and knowing a sequel is being made RIGHT NOW is a good thing.

You guys and your negativity :(

Hey, Draft, I'm still upbeat about! A little more cautious, but hell, if they just stick to the same gameplay formula as RE4 with some minor improvements (strafing, dodging), and continue the story well, it'll rock.

I'm plenty upbeat, what I am not anymore is susceptible to hype for games that *might* show up in the *far* distant future.

Show me a working alpha and then I can start getting enthused.

PS2 port of RE4 will rock so hard....and all on 1 DVD (as opposed to 2 little gay discs)

I realize this is going to go right over your head, but inanimate objects cannot be homosexual. Learn to at least use your short list of words properly.

It is after all extremely difficult to insert the second disc half way through the game... I mean, you have absolutely no idea when exactly to start using the second disc or how to operate it!
