Sci Fi Wire (http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire2005/index.php?id=31717) has the scoop on a new Blade television series that will be starting next summer on Spike. So why should you be interested? Two reasons: David Goyer and Geoff Johns. The pilot for the show will be co-written by David Goyer, writer of Batman Begins, who is also currently working on The Flash movie and the Batman Begins sequel, and Geoff Johns, who is almost certainly one of the best comic writers in the business today. It'll be interesting seeing how this one tunrs out. Goyer describes by saying:

It'll be Blade, but it's different than the movies. That's all I can say.
Also of interest: This is Spike's first dramatic show (and possibly their first show worth watching?), and a new actor will be hired to play Blade.

Anything Goyer touches, I will be willing to check out. Add in Geoff Johns to that, and I'm pretty convinced this will be a strong show. Here's hoping!

First Spike show worth watching? What about XTC or whatever that Japanese show where the people wipe out for 30 minutes? That show was/is (I never watch Spike anymore so I don't know if they still show it) hilarious. I also thought the Joe Schmo Show was funny as shit.

Too bad it had to become the CSI channel.

I'd also like to point out that David Goyer is the screenwriter for all 3 of the Blade movies and he directed the 3rd one. Good to see him attached to the TV show since it is pretty much his baby.

Automaton, I actually didn't realize Goyer wrote the movies. Very interesting. Makes me more interested to see how exactly he will be changing the show.

I just hope there is someone to temper/restrain/refine Goyer, because left unchecked he can really lay an egg. Blade 3 anyone?

It'll be different, because they won't have the time and money to do the over-the-top special effects of the past couple of movies.

Best case: It'll be more like the 1st movie, hopefully without the idiotic plot point that a young upstart vampire could actually overthrow a centuries-old group of vampire-mafia-royalty.

More probable: It'll be somewhere between Mutant X and Angel.

Ideally I suppose that's what Geoff Johns would do.

MSUStud911, thank you for saying what I almost posted. Blade 3 sucked horribly and, IMHO, ruined Blade as a character. When I found out that Goyer wrote Batman Begins, I was really scared. Someone musta been watching over his shoulder.

With that said, a Blade TV show could work, but a new Blade actor? Sounds fishy.

MXC, and yes they still show it. It's the funniest thing I've ever seen.

Yeah, Blade 3 was feces spiced with bits of goodness. I'll go ahead and assume that Snipes isn't going to be a part of it (unless that was in the article and I missed it), which would make me somewhat cautious of this. Part of the reason I like the Blade series so much - aside from the setting; vampires are always a good thing - is Snipes' attitude surrounding the character. I honest cannot see anyone else stepping into the role of the Daywalker. Hopefully once it gets started I'll be able to sit back and just enjoy it without trying to find fault.

Goyer rarely does me wrong, but the man needs some restraint.

Fuck all this, you know what they need to adapt?

Just to people know, Goyer did very little of the Batman begins script, but enough to still get some credit. The director did MOST of the Batman Begins script. Goyer is a hack.

Goyer is a hack if he's left alone. He doesn't seem to be able to figure out what should be cut, what should be changed, and what is f'ing stupid.

Guillermo del Toro and Stephen Norington both did a great job with Goyer's Blade scripts, but Goyer himself could not.

Also, from what I read Goyer did have a significant part in writing Batman Begins, but he was reigned in by Christopher Nolan who, I assume, staved off Goyer's stupider and more outlandish ideas.

Hmm, I'll try not to hold the third movie against him because that one stunk up the whole series. Blade 2 was my favorite of the bunch, but that's probably because I'm such a big fan of Guillermo Del Toro's directing. TV show could be interesting, and might fill the void that Joss Whedon has left behind.

Not really true, about 70% of what Goyer wrote was in the movie.

I am sorry but I don't think anything can fill the void of Buffy or Angel, they have and will continue to at least me be stand-out shows. I am more than willing to give Blade a shot but I won't think of it as a replacement for Buffy or Angel.

I vote the bring Wesley Snipes in, he had good ideas for Blade 3. They shot him down like a bunch of retards and went with the shit stain that is that movie.

Y'know, I never got into buffy or Angel, but I'm pretty strongly considering giving the DVDs a shot now that I've been hearing so much about how great Whedon is.

Watch Firefly. Firefly is the greatest television show I have ever seen.

I keep buying copies of the DVD set to give away as gifts to people who never saw it. So far, I've made a couple dozen converts. The show is *THAT* good.

As for Blade....this could be interesting. These are both fairly capable writers. But what interests me is this:

Guest stars. Remember, this a Marvel Universe thing. There's nothing saying that the other Marvel heroes couldn't pop in every now and again.
"Next week on Blade: Tobey McGuire guest stars...."

Think about it.

Yup, snag Firefly. It's going for $25.00 w/ free shipping on Amazon, I just bought a copy for my friend. Good good stuff.

Yeah, I totally want to listen to some triphop on my iPod while I Bowazon.

I think my brain still hurts from Blade 3.

Anyway, I'm interested in this series, though for the love of God hire someone who just stands there all day whacking writers over the nose with a rolled up newspaper everytime they try to be "hip" and "edgy". Please!

I just wanna throw in my support for Firefly. An amazing show that never got a chance. Rent/Buy/Steal the DVDs...or wait and watch it on Sci-fi. Actually that's starting this week I think.

That would destroy Marvel's Ultimate universe so fast. Fucking great idea!

I'll be ordering in the DVDs for free from interlibrary loan. :D

I never got into Firefly myself. I know, I now must be killed. I'm not hatin' on the show, it just never struck a cord with me. Ryan Reynolds did a fairly good job considering what he was given if you ask me.

You know, they fucked Snipes in Trinity. They took out a lot of his stuff as they shot the film, and even changed some character dev for him. He wants nothing to do with them, although he tried getting the rights to make another movie himself. That would be awesome.

My two fav franchises are Blade and Evil Dead. So seeing this is cool, but Snipes is Blade. They should use Michael Jai White.

Adam, I completely agree. I GIS'd him and he looks like he'd make a great Snipes body double, too. :)

I must say though... Wesley Snipes IS Blade and no matter how good White would do, I'd still compare his performance to Snipes.

Ryan Reynolds did a fairly good job considering what he was given if you ask me.

That's the problem. It wasn't Blade - it was 'The Nightstalkers', or, Blade: The Nightstalkers. The movie was a spinoff movie... not a Blade movie. I agree though, Ryan Reynolds did great as the ass kicking, one-liner sidekick.

I watch Spike all the time for Star Trek... But I won't be watching this. Why? Because Blade sucks ass, and unless you change virtually everythinga bout him, then there is no way to make him not suck ass.

Firefly sucked. I watched it for about 5-6 episodes when it was on TV and it was shit. It made my friends laugh (and not in a good way). Also, before the Whedonistas get on me, I loved Buffy and Angel and have about 7 seasons of DVDs between the two of them.

Firefly was crap. Get over it.

K...So if it's crap why did the Powers That Be (ooh I got an Angel reference in there too) greenlight a major motion picture for a dead series? And why did Sci-Fi picked up the entire series plus the three unaired episodes? Ok, I concede that question, because they are trying to make out on the movie. But still.

I am just asking, not antagonizing.

Personally, I dug Angel and Firefly more than Buffy.

First of all, I am with you re. enjoying Angel more than Buffy.

Firefly (Serenety) made the silver screen for the same reason we got to see Freddy vs. Jason and Scooby Doo. There was enough of a fanbase to support a profit-bearing venture. We'll see if the movie is any good - I'm not disparaging the world he made, just the TV show. It was hokey-finokey and never explained why/how Little House on the Prarie could exist in a post-starflight universe. Right, right, there was a war. Oh. Please.

Hmmm, I thought there were other sci-fi books/stories/comics that had similar backdrops of space with a western or similiar theme and if I remember right those seemed to work ok. In any case, the movie is going to either rock for Firefly/Serenity fans or alienate them by trying to make it too accessible to new viewers.

But I will close with this, I'd rather see an Angel/Buffy/Firefly movie than Whedon waste his time with a Wonder Woman flick.

...Dude, it's a theme, it doesn't have to be explained. Besides that, even if he did want to explain it, I would assume it'd take at least a couple of seasons, which he was not given the oppurtunity to do.

Other than Joss Whedon right? This guy has as much luck with TV series as Chris Carter after X-files, except Chris atleast had Millennium.

Now I don't know what shit-hole universe you're living in, but Joss Whedon has CREATED three television shows, two of which were immensley popular. The other has been extremly successful after being released on DVD, and much of it's failure on television can be blamed on Fox (not surprising). He has had so much success that there are people like me out there who are called Whedonists because we eat up everything he does. That's how popular he has been, -he- has fanboys, not just fanboys of his shows.

When you have fanboys, then you can talk shit.

Dude? Um, ok. Anyways, of course it doesn't need to be explained. I also can find the lack of an explanation a dealbreaker. Lightsabers with blasters and starships is easy to buy into... it's the FUTURE. When you have a starship land on a strraannge plaaanet and there is maw and paw hoss herding cows with circa 50's clothes on, it's called anachronistic and it doesn't make sense.

Ok, I lied. One more thing. So if Firefly with the Little House on The Prarie needs to be explained then how come every vamp in Buffy and Angel knows martial arts as soon as they rise from the dead?

I mean it's cool, because that would be a huge bonus for being a walking corpse. :)

Besides, they actually did do a fair amount of explanation about the border worlds not having heaps of technology. And when they visit the core worlds- they don't look like LHotP.

Ryan Reynolds was actually really entertaining in Blade 3- easily the best part of the film. His writing was as tight as Biel's....hey look, a shiny thing!
Seriously, Reynolds smarting off at Blade was the best thing in the movie.

Screw the furniture. Sit on the carpet and watch Firefly. It's that good.
