Gamerfeed (http://www.gamerfeed.com/) has posted a story (http://general.gamerfeed.com/gf/pr/9039/) concerning the sale of the Acclaim name as well as the Mirra Freestyle BMX and ATV Quad Power Racing 2 licenses.

Here's a bit from the article...
According to Newsday.com, the Acclaim Entertainment name is going to be sold for $100,000 to Central Investment Holdings. Also, Crave Entertainment is looking to purchase the Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX series and the ATV Quad Power Racing 2 game for a combined total of $120,000. Both deals are pending a potential higher bid from another company in the next few weeks. Neither Central Investment Holdings nor Crave has indicated what they will do with their respective properties once they have them.

Maybe they can turn the Acclaim name around?

We can have a bake sale! ;)

Oh how far Acclaim has fallen....

Hmmm, why invest in a name that's more of a liability than an asset? There's an idea that has definitely come from a committee.

Seriously. I just wish companies like Acclaim and Atari could fold and go away. Let these names disappear so that years from now we can remember the good games they put out, think fondly of them, and maybe pine for their return. Fond remembrance is so much better than continued disappointment.

If I pitch in money for this bake-sale of ours and make some of my special crumb cake, we best be making a Wreslemania game. With the Ultimate Warrior.

Didn't the Atari name go for millions and millions of dollars? I guess they probably also got a backcatalog of atari properties but how much is that worth?

What does purchasing the name mean? I am unfamiliar with this concept. Does it give the right to publish with the name? What happens to their dev studios?

That's basically what it is. Just like Atari.

How much for The Red Star, anyway? Unfinished would be fine. The demo was fun, but it seems to have ceased to exist.
