Wired's Game|Life column just posted the full list of upcoming games (http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/10/nintendo-reveal.html) for Nintendo's Wii and DS for the remainder of the year and a little beyond. The Wii has around 76 titles in between now and January 1, while the DS will be the proud parent of 198 new titles in the same time frame. The full list contains more games that are also slated for early 2008.There are a few surprises -- Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed will be coming to DS in February, for example.
The recently announced Advance Wars: Days of Ruin is coming as early as January? Hot diggity!

Edit: According to IGN, Wii library will see 86 new releases this holiday (http://wii.ign.com/articles/826/826577p1.html) compared to 47 for Xbox 360 and 38 for PlayStation 3.

76 Wii and 198 DS titles in the next three months? No wonder it's no longer the Nintendo Seal of Quality, but just the "Nintendo Seal" now.

I'm sure there are some decent games in the lineup, but the vast majority are going to be nothing worth talking about.

The worst part about so many DS releases is that the good games will get buried. The GBA had a very similar problem - so much crap comes out at such a fast rate that the stores turn over the titles very quickly. Thus if you don't buy a game at release you may never see it again. :(

There are quite a few worth talking about. A lot of it is more specialized, niche titles, to be honest, but frankly that's what I expect from Nintendo these days. There's about 30 high-potential (even if the market is limited) games there, which, is a very good number, and about the same as what you have on the other two systems.

You know what's funny? At least on the Wii list, I had about 26 games, and there's several that I had that Kamalot doesn't have, and several that he has that I don't have..some that I should have, but that's neither here nor there.

Actually, the IGN Wii liveblog of the media summit today said that the game looks like a lot of fun, especially for a 20 buck price tag with the accessory.

I would trade all 76 of those Wii titles at a later date for Brawl tomorrow.

At the cost of Brawl being half-baked?

Let it be done when it's done. It will make that satisfying DING sound, and pop out of the oven of Japan into our merry little hearts.

Karmakin
10-11-2007, 02:34 PM
All those games? Hells no.

Super Mario Galaxy above everything else. Brawl I understand why Nintendo wants to perfect it, as they said. (Actually from the reports I've read today, the game needs some balancing done to it, MetaKnight seems to be too powerful). Namely, there's unlikely to be another Smash game on the Wii, and it'll be one of the defining games for the console.

I second that. IGN still lists an October 23 release date. I don't think we should see that slip.

The list doesn't mention umbrella chronicles, either. Wonder why they'd leave Capcom off.

How many of those are worth a damn? Just taking a look, there is a lot of stuff like Jenga from Atari, and Luxor. I see that Disney is continuing their partnership with a new Hannah Montana game.

Although, a Super Swing sequel(online play please?) may get me to buy another DS.

On my radar, are the following:

Puzzle Quest (may just get PC version instead), Zak and Wiki, Battalion Wars 2, Fire Emblem, LEGO: SW (I never played the other versions and this game looks to be hilarious), Mario Galaxy, Harvey Birdman, Simpsons, Trauma Center, and Nights.

I want Fire Emblem the most, as it looks to be just how I like my RPG's...lots of strategy, and tons of characters.

Could very well be...I'm definately waiting on the reviews for most of them. The only ones I'm tempted to buy first day are Fire Emblem and Harvey Birdman. I love that show. :)

Yeesh. On the one hand, there is a lot of crap there in both lists. On the other hand, there are also a tonne of great ones.

I wish that the DS (much like the GBA) didn't have so much shovelware churned out on it on a weekly basis.

Zack & Wiki still looks great. I don't know who thinks it's going to be like a Banjo Kazooie-style game, since all of the footage I've seen have shown that it's very puzzle oriented.

One title that I saw missing from the list was Professor Layton & The Curious Village. I thought it was slated for a Dec. 4 release date.

I hate seeing lists like this because it gets me thinking about revising my "I'm Only Going To Buy What I Have On PreOrder" rule... again... for the 30th time.

At what point does this many forthcoming titles spell bad news for third parties? I mean, you want a good lineup in the pipeline, but with this many titles coming in the near term, particularly on the DS, don't you risk saturating the market?

However, let me be clear in saying that this is nothing but good news for Nintendo.

So the games taht support Co-Op, is there going to be some sort of Voice Chat attachment for the Wii? Because without it, it's kind of pointless.

Well, human AI counts for something. The social atmosphere is handicapped. That's a lot, but it's not everything.

that's what they said about the gamecube.

this list is a very good sign and it looks similar to the third party ps2 lists from a few years ago.

The more kids movie licensed games and anime licensed games on the system the better for the overall health of the system.

Is that a total since launch? That seems really high. Are they counting the downloads?

No, but they are counting shitty games. *Waits to be berated for judging unreleased games*

I think (hope) the ratio of good to bad 3rd party games might rise over the next couple years though.

Edit: Wii Games I'm looking out for this holiday:

Super Mario Galaxy
Geometry Wars Galaxies
Guitar Hero III
Fire Emblem

And maybe:

Table Tennis
Crossbow Training

I doubt there will be any kind of voice chat. People keep talking about the possibility of using a Bluetooth headset with Wii, but I can't see Nintendo allowing people chatting on Wii. It COULD happen though, I just wouldn't count on it.

I'm looking forward to co-op games that people can play with me at my place. For example, my brother is coming over on Saturday night to play some Halo. I taught him how to play FPS games on Quake II. When we sat down to play, he'd never touched an FPS. He would end up staring at the ceiling and shooting his own feet with rockets, a menace to even himself. That night, we beat the whole game in one sitting. At the end, he was excellent.

That's 35 games from now until the end of the year, that I think have potential to be at least 75%+ metascore games. You never know of course, and you might only end up with half that. But that's still a very good lineup.

Heh. To be honest I agree with you on that 100%, but that seems to be what the middle core peeps go by.

A lot of the Wii titles are more niche titles that appeal to specific fanbases, however, as I mentioned, that's what I wanted from the system, and that's what I'm getting.

Tons and tons of Wii titles.
98% of which are shit. Yay.

On the brightside, some of those DS titles look seriously interesting. Might be putting down the PSP for the DS in the near future, especially if that warhammer game turns out well. I didnt even know it was in the works.

Right you are. IGN has a writeup of the title (http://ds.ign.com/articles/826/826671p1.html) today. Looks like the game (at least the DS version that I know of) supports WiFi play and local play with one copy of the game.

It's been delayed until February 4th (http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/10/nintendo-delays.html). :(That's alternately very upsetting and merely annoying. Upsetting because, like that article states, I was really looking forward to Professor Layton and unlike Smash Bros., this pisses me off. Annoying because it just means that I have a few more months to wait and pay it off.

I guess this means that I can get Lifesigns instead. I had dropped it so I could keep my spending down for the remainder of the year but I guess I can justify picking up Lifesigns if Professor Layton got bumped to February.

I wonder why it got delayed? Localization issues? That game does have a tonne of text.

i must be spending too much time on ******, because i expected to see 95% of these comments bashing on the wii's titles. srsly, read this same post over there and you'll hear nothing but hate. i LOVE ******, but the readers are sooooo annoying over there, ive considered myself a hardcore gamer for about ten years, how many people do you know that had a saturn back when they were still new, and would get into arguments about how much better it was than playstation, and still to this day says the saturn is a better machine (the japanese lineup is wayyyyy better imo). but thats neither here no there, the point is, if youre truly "hardcore" why spend so much more time hating on stuff in this hobby we love than playing the games? i'll never understand that, sure theres alot of garbage on these lists, but like plenty have said, ever heard of a playstation or a playstation 2? man there were so many trash titles on those consoles because they were the leaders, any leading console always comes packed with trash. man if you look back at the nes' games there was plenty of trash on there too, just not as much. but with all that trash comes plenty of AAA titles, i can name quite a few im excited about, and some 360 and ps3 titles (not as many though) have my interest piqued as well.
