Wii Gets a Price Drop in Canada

As a responce to the Canadian dollar rising, this Friday the Wii’s price will drop $20 at Canadian retailers. This will make the console $269. This news is coming from a few reporters who have gotten their hands on electronics retailer’s flyers a little early. So Canada if you haven’t bought a Wii yet, now’s your time!

Wow! Great news for Canadians!

Microsoft and Sony should follow suit!

Damn Canadian Loonie. Your current rise has given way to tons more Canadian commercials on my tv. I viewed 5 in less then one hour, during Pushing Daisies to be exact. Damn you. Oddly, all of them were for Spas, and only one had been played before, so 4 distinct Canadian Spa commercials for the Montreal region. Grr.

/rant off

I hope a lot of others things start having their price adjusted, it is fair after all. Still doesn't mean a lot of places will ship to you though. :p

Good, now Serapth and TrackZero (has trackzero been doing it too?) can quit bragging about there are so many in the stores up there, the register biscuits use them to set up forts and re-enact The War of 1812.

Cheaper is always better. I will get one eventually. Have to play Zelda and Mario some time.

Based on today's exchange rate:

269.00 CAD = 275.361 USD

Systems prices are nice, but the price of games is my primary concern. Were I closer to the border, I'd have no reason to shop here.

Are wii's easy to find in Canada? If wii's are easy to find there thats one thing, if if there as rare as they are in the states then it doesn't make much sense to drop the price.

Change the price of the games, that's where the real gouging is going on.

Especially with poor Canadian 360 owners...

What was the old price?

What was the old price?

The first few weeks it was 279, then they raised it to 289 when the dollar dropped. Now that we've passed the USD, we should be paying 249, no?

The PS3 launched at 659 cad (I think it was 599 in the US), but when the dollar dipped, the price quietly climbed up. I'm not sure if they've dropped the price again.

Wii are actually pretty easy to find in both Toronto and Montreal, they aren't always everywhere but I see them regularly. And you're right, we're still paying an extra $10 for most games, but Futureshop has been pretty good at selling new releases at $10 off. Both Sony and Nintendo launched at a reasonable exchange, but it is nice to see Nintendo keep pace. I think Microsoft has adjusted a little, but since I want to replace my launch 360 with an Elite another drop would be nice.

So, more or less 20 bucks? Not bad.

Listen. I can't be expected to READ the actual post, that's just ridiculous.

Similar in Ottawa. I find the local grocery store is actually the best place to find them. They usually have 5-6 in stock, although it took them until about June to have any in stock to start with.

Wow... a 10$ price drop from what I payed at launch...

Considering the dollar has gone up by 15 cents in the time frame, its actually kinda pathetic.

No thanks, I'm not playing Nintendos sucker game again. I know the moment I buy it they'll come out with the system in other colours I want with a limited edition game pack in. Which they usually do right after a price drop. I'll keep waiting, no games are pushing me hard enough yet to "need" the system, perhaps by spring/summer.

Heh, never even realized. This isn't a price drop, it's a price correction (and not a good one at that).

Sound fairly generous compared to what Microsoft and Sony are offering.

Keep going Nintendo. Some of us up north are getting a little fucking pissed with the lack of price adjustment. You can spew whatever crap you can conjure but the truth is you'll need to match the US price or people will just hit the border. Though I doubt that means shit-all to you.

Actually Sony has been quite good with pricing in Canada compared to the US prices... usually 10% more in Canada.

IIRC Microsoft was charging 25% more.
