Gamecloud (http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=660) has an interview up with video game composer Jeremy Soule (Morrowind, Guildwars) about his project called Direct Song.Gamecloud - Why do you think such a music service for games is needed?
Jeremy Soule - Direct Song was made to satisfy game enthusiasts who want more than the game industry's average amount of music in their games. Direct Song enabled games ship with an hour or more of music at retail. However, with further expansion, our games can hold hours of music. I'll add that games typically ship with an hour of music because of space and budget considerations. Direct Song alleviates these hurdles so that publishers can deliver a better musical experience to their customers.
The site is very cool, I bought the Guild Wars soundtrack for only $5.99! The DRM restrictions on the files are very leniant as well.
