Apparently, there is a Dungeon Siege movie in the works and actor Ray Liotta has been cast (http://today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=filmNews&storyID=2005-07-20T080954Z_01_N20404555_RTRIDST_0_FILM-FILM-LIOTTA-DC.XML).
The $60 million fantasy film, which executive producer/director Uwe Boll said will run three hours, is filming in and around Vancouver through Oct. 11. He expects the movie to be ready for distribution by late-summer 2006.
The cast also includes Burt Reynolds, Ron Perlman, John Rhys-Davies, Matthew Lillard, Kristanna Loken, Leelee Sobieski, Will Sanderson, Jason Statham, former NFL star Brian J. White, and German supermodel Eva Padberg.
I like some of the casting, but they really had to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find someone who would direct this film it appears. Both of Boll's previous movies, House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark, were horrible. Alone in the Dark was amazingly unbelievable. I mean, 2 hours of movie, and Christian Slater wasn't brought up on assault charges once.

There was a huge discussion over this movie the last time it was a news item, like a week ago. ;)
Jason S is really great, I hope this movie turns out will (though I have my doubts) but it would be nice to get a revigorated fantasy genre with some more good movies. I think the last Fantasy movie was... DnD? Yikes.

What about LotR? There was the King Arthur thing as well, and all those epic battle film clones.

"John Rhys-Davies, Matthew Lillard"
Wow. Two of my favourite ... "B" actors (no offense, as I'm sure JRD would go nuts hearing himself called that) in the same flick. This is going to be great!

Although you must admit, House of the Dead was so horrible and bad that it was almost good. Knowing it was meant to be taken seriously makes it that much more laughable. Seeing the springboards behind the headstones that made the zombie jump was just pathetic, but it's hilarious.

So, who is directing it?
Uwe Boll?
I think some agents are about to get fired. at. with guns. for this.

I have only wanted to walk out of a few movies in my life. The Darkness being the most recent to date. Boll's flicks have been so bad I just couldnt move. I was frozen by the sheer terror of it all. Every time the camera bullet-timed around an actor in House of the Dead when they died or Tara Reid spouted off some Anthropological babble in Alone in the Dark...UGH!
By the by, have you all checked out www.uweboll.com ?

Haha, so many decent actors that will need the grace of some kind of God to make this movie good. I'll still watch it though as I loves the dungeon siege.

After Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels and Snatch I was a really big Jason Statham fan. After seeing The Transporter, I realized he is most likely the next Jean Claude Van Damme.

If I've asked once I've asked a dozen times: Step off my man Uwe Boll (http://getthesugar.blogspot.com/2005/07/please-step-off-my-man-uwe-boll.html)

Ah Dungeon Siege, Boll's next best choice after he unsuccessfully tried to secure the rights to make the LoRT videogame into a movie. Anyway, I've never actually seen House of the Dead, but my friend told me, aside from being the worst movie he's ever seen, that it actually had game footage intercut in some action scenes. Maybe this time after Dr. Boll has paid all his actors 70% of his budget, he will once again resort to in-game graphics over CGI! Helm's Deep in-engine! Oh this is going to be a disaster!

I've actually got a fun plan. I'm planning to wait another three or four years, letting Mr. Boll keep releasing these shit movies. Then I'm planning to rent all of them in one go and have a Boll movie marathon. It should be a blast, all things considered.
Oh, and this is far from new news. But still. :)

Never heard of it. Care to elaborate? What's the release date on it?

I'm pretty sure that's a recipe for a stroke, or at the very least the development of a nervous twitch.

a dungeon siege movie? I just don't get it. There aren't any characters to identify with, no really memorable locations, not even much of a fan following.
somebody will have fun writing the screenplay, lol.

One of my friends is going to be in this movie. As some three second part extra, I believe.

As a student filmmaker, I can only say that the movies (definitely not "films" in any sense of the word) of Mr. Boll give me great faith in my own work.
Seriously, who the fark gave this gut the funding for these crapfests? The fact that this guy is optioning video games and turning them into complete and utter excremental celluloid is not helping us, the gamers, any.
Another step toward getting games to be taken seriously is to get them out of the hands of hacks like Boll.

The same sense of both hope and defeat that reading bad (but published) writers gives me! On one level, it's like "If this guy gets funding, I fucking can." But on another it's like "Is there no hope for anything actually good?"

Germans. Part of being German is causing pain to ourselves or others. Put simply his movies are painful and we like it.
Why do you think we jump into frozen rivers?

His movies apparently make money. Probably mostly due to German tax loopholes.
Regardless, that's the only qualification for movie-making. Making money.
