The PS3 iteration of SingStar, Sony's karaoke-esque hit, was supposed to be one of the system's tentpole titles this holiday season. The game, which is also slated to include a social networking component and micro transactions, was never given a specific release date, although it's already missed the July-September 2007 release window given on the Official PlayStation 3 website. Games Industry (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=29400) spoke to Sony about the game's status.
Although reviews have started to appear in the specialist press, a spokesperson for Sony has told GamesIndustry.biz that the game needs further testing, and would not be drawn on any specific release period.

"We want to ensure that consumers have the best possible experience when playing SingStar on PlayStation 3.

"We are therefore taking extra time to test the downloadable content and community features of SingStar to ensure that it is as rich, simple and accessible a SingStar experience as possible," said the company.SingStar may not be something that the hardcore gamer is looking forward too that much but, as Nintendo has shown with the Wii, the non-hardcore gamer market is still fairly untapped.

How can reviews already be showing up if the game isn't complete yet?

I doubt the non hardcore market bothers with the PS3 at the moment. Especially since games like Singstar, GH, etc are also available for PS2 or Wii, etc.

Still, it does help to diversify the offering on PS3.

I'm willing to be this will launch with Home. I don't know why, but I've got that feeling.

That Sony PR person used the title "SingStar" way too many times for 2 sentences.

Agreed. I don't think the Wii crowd is willing to spend $400-$600 on a console system for a karaoke game.

I believe the release date is November, and has been for the past few weeks.

This franchise is so huge in Europe, just not here. I believe it's sold over 10 million copies in Europe.

Yup its really big here in EU and I can't wait to get my hands on my copy of SingStar PS3, nothing like a little karaoke on a party.

you know all the delays and the 40Gb PS3 seem to fit in well with Sony writing off this year and aiming for 2008, just hope they havn't left it to late.

SingStar is the franchise that will move PS3s in Australia. I don't remember the last time there wasn't at least one Singstar in the weekly top 10 here. Probably the last time was the week before the first one was released.

I'm guessing that the main game is done and the big problem for them (and other developers) is getting the DLC to work correctly. That's why the game is being reviewed in mags and such.

With this kind of game, the DLC is your cash cow. They don't want to mess it up so they are taking the time to ensure it works correctly.

Just my guess but seems logical.

We went over this last week, several times, on TF2, Quake Wars, and PGR4 reviews. You should talk to your class mates, we will be having a test.

Clearly you do not know the Karaoke community at all. Being asian, and knowing how much the majority of us love Karaoke. We will go to great lengths and expenses to have a great Karaoke experience, including and not limited to, buying high end equipment.

I wasn't in those classes, prof. Instead of being smarmy, perhaps you could have provided links to those insightful threads.
