View Full Version : More next-gen market share predictions
Another analyst gives its thoughts on how the next-gen console (http://www.pro-g.co.uk/news/nid/1112/) war is going to pan out.
According to Strategy Analytics, a global research and consulting company, the three big console manufacturers will sell almost 200 million consoles between them by the year 2012.
The report titled "Games Consoles For The Digital Home: Assessing The Prospects For PS3, Xbox 360 And Revolution", states that the Xbox 360 will pose a serious threat to Sony and their PlayStation 3, leading sales in North American and Europe into 2007. The PlayStation 3 isn't due to be launched until mid to late 2006, so this would explain Microsoft's early predicted lead.

"Overall predicted sales figures put Sony in a clear lead, selling 121.8 million, with the Xbox 360 expected to reach 58.8 million, and the Nintendo Revolution hitting 18 million."
I doubt Sony will show that much strength. Poor, poor Nintendo.

How can they speculate on the Revolution when we know so little about it?

Possibly, but it shows a decline in marketshare, and in like most freefalls, a "splat" is inevitable.

I do a bit of investing in this sector. This Anal ist's client is SONY. It appears they have a biz model of "analyzing a clients sector" and realeasing crap on the biz wire.
Surprise SONY wins!
I suspect Phantom will be getting on with these guys soon.
Too many factors at play to be making any predictions on market share etc. Also a look on the SA website shows what kind of cutting edge gamers these guys really are!

Their market share has decreased every generation on the consoles....but they still make money.

So do many companies. They make money. But, what are the margins? When does the effort, investment, resources and overall gamble become too much?

First off, pretty much nothing is known about The Revolution. Secondly, Sony will not sell that many consoles unless they count returned defective units again.

When the love is gone?
Personally, looking at the art and polish of most Nintendo games, I say they've still got plenty of heart to match the resources.

The 2005 holiday season will be a make-or-break time not only for the Xbox 360, but also for Microsoft's wider digital home strategy.
I have to disagree with that statement. 2005 will not prove much of anything because the system will be brand new and the 2 competitors systems will not even be out yet. I think Christmas of 2006 should be the earliest that you will be able to tell if the 360 is a success. As for Microsoft’s "wider digital home strategy" what exactly is it? Aside from them wanting to sell lots of Xboxes and maybe pushing the whole link your Xbox to windows media center thing a little more I have not seen anything all the new from MS. Maybe I'm missing something?
