Tomorrow, Wednesday the 20th of July, we will release Autoupdate 4. This is a small file that updates your version of Halo 2 to address various issues. It only takes a moment to download the file, but it is required for continued play on Xbox Live. If you do not wish to download the file, that is your choice, however, you will not be able to play Halo 2 on the Live service. So you've been warned. Read on for lots of specific info.
Read the FAQ. (http://www.bungie.net/News/TopStory.aspx?story=autoupdate4&p=4040317)

Im glad Bungie is on top of this modding situation and taking it very seriously. Now we find out if they have the technical capacity to succeed in eliminating cheating on Xbox Live.

Whew.. you should have seen PSO for the Dreamcast. Cheating on a console sure isn't a new thing.

Good to hear. I haven't really encountered any cheaters in a while, but I can see it being a huge problem. Hopefully this will set a precedent that other console game manufacturers will follow. Often it seems like console makers are even worse about patching/fixing games after they are out, despite the fact that playing on a console is supposed to be a "problem-free" experience that is sooooooo much better and easier than a pc (yeah right). In any case, good to see the ban-hammer fall.

Enforce that EULA Bungie!

I love when Bungie attempts to talk tough. Players shouldn't be responsible for finding exploits in Bungie's shitty code.

Direct cheating, sure, but exploiting bugs that were originally there? Psh.

Fuck Halo 2.

I played a game the other day in Containment (Multi-flag CTF) and the other team had at least three people on the other team running the same cheat. They would literally grab the flag and be back at their base within a matter of seconds. Total, the match lasted 1min, 24sec with 3 flag captures. That's ridiculous. Though I did somehow manage to sticky bomb one of them. Unhappy, they were.

Q: Why didn't you give us any warning?

A: Actually we did, several times. For weeks. Also, we don't actually owe you any warning if you've been cheating. It serves you right. You don't deserve to play with skilled, fair, legitimate Halo 2 fans.

Good job Bungie. Get all of them.

This almost makes me want to go rebuy Halo 2. I traded it in on principle alone.

Man oh man John Roberts looks like a complete shitbag. Oh man and he's crying now too! THERE'S NO CRYING ON THE SUPREME COURT!

I have to say though, I've been lucky in that I haven't encountered any cheaters while in matchmaking. Someone showed me that teleporter trick on Relic once, but that map isn't even in the matchmaking rotation.

Ow....I'm so lucky my OCD didn't act up when I read that....sooo many commas. (perios are a mental rest for me...no mid thought stopping)

My brother told me he used to hack back in the early CS day. He doesn't anymore, but he's still a freaking Team Killer. He plays breakfloor pretty much exlusivley now, he "kills all." Pshh

Back when SC: PT came out for PS2, and the glitches were just being discovered, I went into an unranked game to try out the glitch in Warehouse that let you get to area 2 before area 1 was complete. We couldn't get it to work...but it was interesting. I would never use it, even if I knew how to do it. We never really got it to work. (it was an unranked game I stress...and we were testing!:P)

Being and admin for Jedi Knight...Team Killers and the like bother me. We don't run into hackers in that game...just lamers (attacking defenessplayers who are just sitting there not dueling. Oh...and people who rush at the beginning of a duel. Its a server rule and common courtesy to bow so your oppenent has time to group themselves.

I remember they just fixed that teleport trick with a rocket launcher and sword...now this.

Actually, that particular trick made me want to smash my controller through the TV screen.A guy did that to my team, the game went on for 45 minutes. We finally found it, then planted it on them for the next round, the average kill count was around 70.

Anyways i play some newb who had auto aim, super speed mod, super jump, and he knew how to get on top of the level. But he still fucking lost, haha.

I've got a theory that for a normal game in that regard, the number of haters is generally proportional to a game's popularity and not its quality.

Big Team Battle playing Assault. There was a dude on the opposite team you just effin flew every as fast has he wanted. When the round started we all stood around the waypoint waiting for him to pop up. We had a tank and 2 jeeps sitting there too. We all saw this fast-paced skipping spartan shoot across the place where you arm the bomb, and we all started screaming, shooting everywhere. The guy in the tank went nuts and shot one of us. A few betrayals later the guy just dissapeared.

Oh and one time a guy was trying the standby trick and lagged out. HAhahaha.

I think they've always had the technical capability...I think that they may have already solved the current cheating problems a while ago and have simply been trying to predict what the cheaters will do next, so they can put that in this autoupdate as well.

After all, you fix one way to cheat and it's only a matter of time before the cheaters come up with another.

>Direct cheating, sure, but exploiting bugs that were originally there? Psh.

Err.. somebody doesn play Halo 2. These "modders" are direct cheaters... Bungie fixed almost all exploits. They only thing that is left now, is people changing the actual maps to give them "special" abilities.

Post when you know something about the thread in the future. Thank you.

Hehe, I guess playing Halo 2 online since it was releaseed doesnt count for anything then?

And what I was saying still applies. Bungie has been improving their software which helps them find people who have cheated.

What is the logic in posts like this? I mean, since they can't get rid of cheats forever they should just stop trying.

IMO, someone's just pissed that are no longer "teh 0wnz0r" due to their modded XBox ;)

why are they warning these guys now? they should just silently release the autoupdate and hope the retards are stupid enough to download it and get banned..

and they should ban their whole xbox from live like they did originally with the chipped xboxes..

if you want to stop these jerkoffs, you gotta hit them where it hurts... make them buy a new xbox (or whatever ithe hell it is that lets you un banz0r them) if they want to play again...

don't friggin tell them to delete the crap now or else... cause when the new exploits come up (and they will) they will just keep using them until they get the "autoupdate warning"...

Come come now. Twas all in good fun. I don't even like Honey Nut Perios. That Bee creeps me out somethin' fierce. He's always running around, telling you what to do. I'm allergic to bees and if I don't eat his cereal, he'll sting me right in the face and cause my entire head to swell. That just ain't right.

At least that Trix fellow is a victim. The Bee is some sort of weird, totalitarian dictator. He has murder in his eyes.

The thing that worries me is a lot of these jokers do not mind loosing their xblive account. They just go and get another free two month card and start a new nick and then get the bonus of playing noobs for a while which ruins that part of matchmaking as well even if they arent cheating.

I am hoping the ban is more than just tied to an account name and related to IP or Mac address but from what I can tell from this information its not. Looking forward this could become even worse when 360 makes available accounts that do not even need a credit card number to be active. However... it would serve in a kind of backwards way to let MS claim more account numbers to make their service appear larger...

I think their goal is to win usually

I'm all for cheats, hacks n trainers. I mean, I love playing just about any game, but it sucks ass when you log into a server and just completely steam rolled by others. That makes the game no fun at all. And yea even with "practice" and learning every tiny aspect of the game, you still can get your virtual ass kicked. For my $50, I wanna win some damn games from time to time, that isn't aganist bots.

... "Hi. I suck at games. BUT, get this, I still keep spending money on them. And because I spend my money on them, I deserve to WIN! Against others who've spent their money on the game! NO MATTER WHAT! WHAT DO YOU MEAN I CAN'T WIN?!?! BUT I WANNA!!!! /stomp foot /bawl"

What a stupid attitude. Because you spent money on the game you've earned the right to ruin it for others who've spent money also? Sounds like a spoiled rich kid.
