Ok, I made up the last part, but the rumored (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37068&highlight=bang+sony) big bang press conference apparently doesn't exist (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3163384). The press conference was supposed to be dubbed big bang thanks to a major announcement of some sort that would be taking place. Maybe they needed to rename it because the announcement is kind of already known (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37121), and the bang wouldn't be so big.
But according to 1UP, there isnt' even ANY conference scheduled, not even a small bang one. Both Sony Computer Entertainment America and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe told 1UP that no events are planned in any territory -- we were specific to ask about the US, France and Europe at large -- on October 12. "I am not aware of any big event planned for 12th October, press conference or otherwise," said SCEE Director of Corporate Communications Nick Sharples.
Sooooo....just a PR cockblock? Or perhaps Sony decided to reschedule for some other time.

Not with a big bang, but a whimper. Seems par for the course.

I think sony's big bang was premature.
but then again, they seem to have a problem with performance.

The original source is an unattributed and incomplete quote in a short gamepro.fr article (http://www.gamepro.fr/actualites/15361/sony-ps3/).
You might want to send them an e-mail and find out exactly who they were quoting.
From what I can determine it appears to be gamepro.fr's "big bang", not Sony's.

Does this mean that they are not going to have $399 PS3 announcement??

The phrase "PR cockblock" makes me very afraid for many reasons.

Believing in jesus instead of the big bang? Stupid. Sounds like Sony all right.

With the way Sony apologized to the Church of England, I'd say they do prefer Jesus.:p

Instead they are just going to have an announcement whereby they announce that they are not going to announce the $399 PS3 but instead are just going to put them on shelves.
It's PR for the PR. We truly live in hyper-reality.

Guess the leak killed the need for an announcement.
a 399 PS3 is good news either way.

A press conference seems to be a bit much for this, especially if they're doing the 40GB across multiple regions. I'd expect a pretty large press release filled with PR speak and the machines to show up on store shelves.

So Sony thinks they're bigger than Jesus now? Typical.

Although I know that's not what the actual article is about, there is little contradiction between the big bang theory and christianity barring a foolish literal interpretation of Genesis, specifically modern English translations. I believe in both, actually.
You mean the part about how most biblical researchers believe earth was created 6000 years ago?
This is contrary to the big bang.

This is a misconception. While many people do believe the "6,000 year" scenario, it is not universally held, nor does it appear to have been church doctrine until the last few hundred years. It's really an anomaly of recent American Protestantism with roots in Puritanism.

Just like Sony thought the next generation started with the launch of PS3, it all makes sense now.

That doesn't make sense, as the 360 is the one that is constantly dying, being sent back to the source, and being resurrected.

Sony might not have a big bang. But Bungie has one for MS and and xbox fans on the 12th.

Yes, because they clearly didn't make enough money with Halo 3 and if they cut themselves loose from Microsoft, there's no way they're going to make another 360 title. I mean, what's 300,000,000 dollars.
There's also no way Microsoft already knows about this. They won't see it coming at all!

I don't even know what to say. A 400$ PS3 would be a huge hitter for Sony. Although they would be cutting off the $499 60 gig. I know sonys supply is supposably gone but the best buy near me still has at least 15 in stock. If I had to choose betwen 40 and 60 i would choose 60, if i had to choose between 40 and 80 i would choose 40. The rumor of the lack of BC is pretty bad but then again PS2's are F'ing cheap

Yeah, bu you have to remember that the Flat Earth group uses technology that is 5,400 years newer so they have the advantage. :p

What I meant is that they're not going to abandon the 360 with that many copies of their previous game sold on the system. Most of their fans are 360 owners.

Would they sell a few more? I think so. The problem is, and its the same problem I've been saying since the damnable George Forem..er PS3 launched is they still don't have one must have title for the system.

Abandon, no. Games appearing on OTHER systems, very possible, depending on refusal.

With how long it takes Bungie to make games... not to mention a brand new IP, the Xbox 720/PS4 will be out by then.
And only fanboys care about exclusives. Everyone else just wants to play games.
