pc.ign.com has posted a preview (http://pc.ign.com/articles/634/634404p1.html) of Neversoft's upcoming Western-themed shooter, Gun.
A Western shooter mixing first- and third-person viewpoints, this simplistically entitled game is far from a simple shooter in chaps and a holster. The early demo we witnessed in San Francisco last month is a bloody and gruesome action-adventure title, in which Neversoft is intent on capturing the wild nature of the American West in the late 19th Century.

Look at the screenshots. It looks great. Good to see Neversoft get away from Tony Hawk since the last few Tony Hawk titles have been such crap.

It does look good, and I love the westerns. But it doesn't seem that different from Red Dead Revolver, which I found to be a solid and fun game. If anyone can do the whole emergent gameplay thing well, i would expect Neversoft to be on that list.

About time! I've always wondered why the western genre has been pretty much ignored by videogames, it would be an excellent atmosphere for a shooter, adventure, or RPG.

Neversoft is an awesome developer stuck with a pretty terrible franchise (Tony Hawk, while initally great games, have degenerated over the years into the terrible Underground games... here's hoping American Wasteland lifts the franchise back into gaming greatness). It's nice to see them doing something new again.
You guys remember their Spider-Man game on the PlayStation? That one rocked.

I've never been particularly impressed with Neversoft's character models, textures, and animations in the Hawk series (except for the main boarders). They know how to deliver good gameplay, but I'm curious to see if their tech improves with an original IP that they actually have some time to complete. I know the Hawk series is basically on the assembly line.

Yeah, their art desperately needs improvement, though Gun isn't looking too bad. If they can bring those Hawk level design skills to a western shooter and make it interest, this could be great. Hopefully, the horse and foot controls will be better than the THUG car and foot loopiness.

The trailer makes it look like the story has some good stuff in it, but I'm a little worried about the controls. Hoping it's got some good evil gameplay that doesn't involve struggling with the camera perspective.
Also doesn't look like these guys read much Cormac McCarthy, but watching Unforgiven a few times might suffice for a multi platform game :).

You are right, Evil, this looks promising.
To be honest, I never was fond of Tony Hawk games: I found them rather boring. Curiously, I am a big fan of SSX 3.

Yeah, for some reason when I first heard Neversoft was working on this, and how commited they are, I got a good vibe about it. Now seeing the shots, I'm really getting geared for it. Which is amazing, because I don't even like westerns (in general).

I've always loved the Old West setting and It hasn't been used enough in the last few years. I hope Neversoft can make this game has good has it sounds.

There are only 2 games that I want that involve horses, and this ain't it.
I'll just dust off my copy of red dead revolver.
(the 2 games are the new Zelda and more so Shadow of Colossus)

It could be a good game.
Even though Neversoft has only made 2 non-Tony Hawk games if I can remember (Appoclapse and Spider-man) which were both OK.
Red Dead Revolver was also one of the most delayed games of this generation.

Sometimes I think that 'Duke Nukem Forever' is a big hoax and it's just a campfire story that developers tell their kids at night..

The game looked blah and generic. I'm not slightly interested even if it does have the GTA style gameplay.
