New Smash Bros Brawl Character and Snake Videos

Yesterday, the official Brawl Development blog (www.smashbros.com) announced Lucas (http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/lucas.html) as a playable character. The main character of the Japanese only game Mother 3, this announcement has given hope to many that the game may finally see the Earthbound game translated and released outside of Japan.

The youth with the psychic powers has appeared—it’s Lucas! He makes his anticipated debut from the Japan-only release MOTHER 3.

Today's blog update was 4 short clips related to Solid Snake's inclusion in the game. The first shows off a few of his moves, and the other 3 are Codec conversations which will supposedly play on Snake's battleground, Shadow Moses Island (http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/stage13.html). The codec conversations are voiced by the original voice actors of the Metal Gear Solid series.

Absolutely bizarre to hear Snake talking about eating a Yoshi. The last thread here about Snake had a lot of discussion that he would be "kiddified" for this game, but in the first video he can clearly be seen snapping Mario's neck, and in the Mei Ling video he talks very suggestively about Samus.

That's what people had said about Sin & Punishment for a long time, but it was just released on VC. Ditto for the actual SMB:LL ROM. Oh the joys of Virtual Console! I think the inclusion of Lucas is actually a pretty big hint at the possibility of Mother 3's release to American audiences. The only hurdle now is simply localizing it, but I don't think it'd be too big of a deal to do so, especially since Nintendo has to know how many cult followers that series has out here.

While there's nothing official at the moment, there's more reason now to hope than there ever has been.

Fire Emblem was Japan only until Smash Bros Melee launched with Marth and Roy as playable, so sticking Lucas into Brawl is a great way to get people interested in playing the game he's from.

Sakurai has also made comments previously about not wanting to include any characters that only appeared in one territory, so maybe he knows something we don't about a translation finally in the works...

It is. This was a huge gripe with MGS1 purists about Twin Snakes. Same VA, but she dropped the whiney accent. Looks like she kept the more tolerable voice for this, thank god.

I'm pretty sure that it will even outsell Halo 3. Smash Bros. Melee outsold Halo, so why couldn't Brawl outsell Halo 3?

Afterall, there are a LOT of titles that have sold more than the Halo games.

Yup, Halo does not have the same world-wide appeal as smash bros.

Considering how many Wiis have been sold on top of that fact, there's no way Brawl won't outsell Halo 3, even if it's not as hyped up amongst the hardcore crowd.

Ya, Brawl will probably outsell Halo 3.... eventually, but it won't put up the same numbers it's first day (it would be awesome if it did)
