Lots of little superhero movie updates coming out of this weekend's big convention. First up there's a great article over at Comic Book Resources (http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=5618) about Sony's film panel at Comicon. It includes a few good bits about the upcoming Nicholas Cage-headed Ghost Rider film:

"Nick has said that Johnny Blaze is as close as he's come to playing himself," Johnson continued. "We went to his house and were pulling his biker jacket, his biker boots, and so on."Arad was asked if "crossovers" would occur in movies, with so many properties at Sony. "Eventually you probably will see some crossovers when it makes sense," Arad said. "Now we're spreading the gospel, and every year you can see this genre spreading out."
Meanwhile Superhero Hype (http://www.superherohype.com/news/featuresnews.php?id=3302) has an audio interview with actor Eva Mendes and director Steven Johnson.

Also of interest on Superhero Hype (http://www.superherohype.com/news/featuresnews.php?id=3300) is an audio interview with Brian Singer about Superman Returns.

Superhero Hype also brings the somewhat surprising but interesting news (http://www.superherohype.com/news.php?id=3307) that a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is in development, and this one will be fully CG-animated. That could end up be really great or really terrible.

Lots of crazy stuff headed our way. Stay tuned, true believers!

John Woo was supposed to do that TMNT movie...guess he jumped ship.

Well... it has a cool poster at least:

mmm, i don't now if that is cool....

maybe I'm tired of expecting too much of the movies with good posters.

Considering it's a poster for a movie that features giant turtles trained in the art of Ninjitsu by a giant rat, I'd say it's the god damn Fonz.

Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtles....Power!

I loved how dark the first movie was. It was so close to the original comic. Then the money hype set in and that was that...

The toys are a big hit again. Maybe this time, they'll cash-cow it right?

All I want is a Spiderman movie witn VENOM in it. If possible, squeeze Carnage in there too. Damn that would be totally awesome. If the 3rd movie has one of the lame enemies like The Vulture or The Scorpion, i'm going to be pissed.

The first movie was dark?!? Are you just talking about the lighting? It was a silly kiddie romp, regardless of it being shot with a few flashlights to light the scene. It was nowhere near as dark as the comicbook.

I was excited when I heard about John Woo having something to do with this movie, but now it falls into the "who cares?" category.

Saying its nowhere as dark as the comic doesn't mean much since the original comic is often ridiculously depressing. That being said, the first movie was kind of dark - the light hearted pizza moments were in between some relatively heavy stuff (particularly for a kid's movie). It did stick pretty close to the comic that dealt with the same plot (the burning of April's store, and the introduction of Casey Jones) - it just added humor in between.

Then get ready to be pissed. The villain is Chameleon, or so I've heard.

The Sandman is in it for sure. Hadn't heard about Chameleon.

Well we see The Lizard (as Curtis Connors) in 2, so maybe he'll be one of the villains? However, also, the potential to bring the symbiote back from space has been established with the introduction of John Jameson. Whatever, either way it's going to be pretty damn awesome.

There is no one for sure, but Sandmand and Chameleon are the most commonly rumored right now. It's also been stated several times that the movie will have at least two main villains.

[QUOTE]the potential to bring the symbiote back from space has been established with the introduction of John Jameson. [QUOTE]

Personally, I think if they have more John Jameson in the film, it should be as Man-Wolf. Hell yeah.

Anyways, as usual, I hope they keep Venom and/or Carnage out until there's enough backstory to them that it won't take up the whole movie just introducing them. But I'm sure Spider-Man 3 will be good stuff either way.

They should have Rhino in the new Spider-Man. Maybe they could get the guy from The Shield to star as him.

Sam Raimi has said in many interviews that he hates the character of Venom and doesn't want to do it. Now, obviously this could be a bit of misdirection, but getting involved into a guessing game like that is pointless. Sandman and Chameleon look like good candidates, especially as hired muscle for a Goblin-izing Harry Osborn.

I haven't yet, but I've heard a lot of praise for the original comics. I plan to check them out eventually.

Warner Bros have agreed to distribute the TMNT movie. Yes!

The animation company behind this project is relatively new, but they apparently impressed much of the animation industry when they released their first CGI TV series, Zentrix. Don't know much about it, so don't ask - but Dreamworks liked it so much they hired them as contractors.

Also, semi-official site for the new movie: http://www.imagi.com.hk/movie/web/tmntm.htm

They were awesome. Well, at least the first trade. Dark and bloody, nothing like the cartoons. Leo didn't just use his katanas on robots.

I'd love to see that era revisited in a new comic. Or in that movie. Either way, too bad it'll probably never happen now that the series is so kid-focused.

Actually there is an ongoing comic series, but I have only read a couple of issues and wass pretty disappointed in the writing and art. However it did steer more towards the darkness that the original series had.

Oh, I figured there's a current on-going. But I didn't figure it was darker. That's interesting.

I tend to go for good writers instead of properties. But when writers shift (such as will be happening with JLA soon), I'll stick with the new guys for at least a few issues to see if they are alright before dropping. I'm also really tempted to try getting into Spider-Man because I loved him as a kid, even though all his comics suck lately, except arguably Ultimate Spider-Man.

Ultimate Spider-man is fantastic. Bendis can do no wrong. Daredevil, however, is my currently favorite along with Miller/Lee's Batman. They finally but peanut-butter and jelly together.

And while I agree that I too normally go for the writer over the property, I almost always end up buying crap I know I'm going to hate because it has G.I. Joe on the cover, He-Man, Thundercats, etc and I can't not break out my wallet for that. It's like I have some sort of 80's deficiency.

Edit: I no write good.

Do you get Toon Disney? They're replaying the original animated series at 11 pm & 4 am. Episode 1 was on last night.

Ugh, see, I don't like Bendis that much. I mean -- well, from what I've read, he's super-good and really interesting half the time. And the other half the time he's slow as hell and boring. His dialogue is just snail's pace a lot of the time. I mean it took Ultimate Spider-Man, what, six issues before Parker actually got in costume?

And have you read any House of M yet? It's proof Bendis can do wrong. I like him, I think maybe he just should stop spreading himself so thin.

I really like Bendis' slower pace for some reason. Maybe it's my inner Robert Jordan fan coming out? I have no problem with pages of dialogue when the writer - for me - knows what he's doing.

Honestly, I had completely forgotten about House of M. One blemish isn't bad....is it? I mean, the man did do some serious serious good to the Daredevil character. That should balance him out....I think.

Have you read Jinx or Goldfish? Great stuff. I think I heard somewhere that Ms. Therone (sp) is going to be staring in the film adaptation of Jinx. My fingers are thoroughly crossed.

I've heard his work on Daredevil is really great. Plan to read that stuff soon, since my housemate has it on his pull list right now. As for Jinx and Goldfish, I've aslo heard his earlier graphic novel stuff is golden, so they're on the list.

In all truth, my only real complaint with DD is that it starts to bleed into the film noir genre a bit and I see him as lulling into his Jinx/Goldfish days some. Not that this is necessarily bad as I think his crime stuff is easily some of his best, but I fear he could slowly move into getting pegged as a niche writer.

I read once (maybe it was in Wizard) that Bendis likes to write himself into a corner. When DD was outed and then went after the Kingpin, that was a really hard bag to try and find one's way out of. Absolutely brilliant.

Then again, if you love Miller, the crime/film noir genre certainly isn't a bad one to bleed into.
