View Full Version : Prey Screens

Prey tells the story of Tommy, a Cherokee garage mechanic stuck on a reservation going nowhere. His life changes when an otherworldly crisis forces him to awaken spiritual powers from his long-forgotten birthright. Abducted along with his people to a menacing mothership orbiting Earth, he sets out to save himself and his girlfriend and eventually his planet.

Prey is serious, dark story, based on authentic Cherokee mythology. Themes of sacrifice, love and responsibility are explored and the story dives into emotional territory not yet explored by similar games.

Portal technology adds a new dimension to gameplay, allowing enemies to appear out of thin air and create new and completely original puzzles and gameplay styles.

Enemies appearing out of thin air and behind you? Wow! Now that is a gameplay innovation I would like to experience first hand.

Enemies don't really appear out of thin air: they jump out from portals, ones you can enter yourself. Human Head seems to boast about their "unique" portal system that allows you to seamlessly port all arround the map, shoot in them, get shot from them, get thigns jump at you, jump at things et cetera. Nevertheless, Legend Ent's "Wheel of Time" FPS had portals you could shoot into.

I remember back when this first appeared. The whole portal thing sounded tight then, still has me so damn excited.

Wow... An authentic and ancient Cherokee piece of mythology about a mothership and a dude getting portalled up to it with some advanced futuristic portalling system?!!?! OMG!!11!!11 Teh Cher0k33s ar3 l33tz0r$!!11!1111!!!!!1

MAYBE the Cherokee are ancient aliens... I mean if they have a legend like THIS, they MUST have travelled around outer space or seen into th future or something! Gee whiz bang! I'm going to go find a historian and see if I can get a record of this! This is some serious shiznit! We've all missed who the real insightful ones are! I bow to the all-knowing power of a Cherokee myth about aliens, portals, futuristic weapons and a little boy rescuing his girlfriend! Hot diggity!!!!!

Fourthed for Fakk2, has for Prey... If 3DR is involved in a game, I usually buy it. The fact that Human Head is a good developer is a plus.

Nevertheless, Legend Ent's "Wheel of Time" FPS had portals you could shoot into.Duke Nukem 3d let you shoot rockets and toss grenades (pipebombs) through them. But id, Epic, Bungie, and everyone else have problems understanding that concept.

I'll never understand why more games don't allow users to shoot through, or at least shoot rockets/throw grenades through, teleporters.

I'm sure they'll treat the history of the Cherokee people with the respect and dignity they deserve. Or maybe they'll just throw every native american cliche they can come up with into the game.

Prey looks to be trying to foreward the gameplay and story of FPS games, I hope it lives up the hype.

Yeah, I had a good laugh at that bit too. You know, in *my* people's authentic mythology, my dick grows an extra 6 inches whenever it rains. </sarcasm>

I cant wait to get the game and find that every time a portal opens the game slows to about 4 fps.

I dl that long ass movie of it from FilePlanet. The game looks lame as hell

How can you say the game looks lame from that video?
It's totally cool imho.
The FPS genre has been standing still for too long.
I personally thought HL2 was a letdown. You shoot at the same 3 monsters for hours on end and why doesn't Freeman speak? I know it worked in HL1 but seemed to hinder the immersiveness in the sequel for me (because you know so little).
Prey and F.E.A.R. are trying something different with the storytelling and I look forward to both.

Mmm to me the games looks clunky, the enemies don't look good either. I'm sick of robots with spider legs and vulcan cannons as arms

People in the FEAR beta who I have talked to say the gameplay feels like a game you played 1000 times over. Prey looks lame because nothing in this long video looks exiting, no tense moments, nothing.

The game looks boring as hell, you can read all this portal and spirit world hype but it doesnt look fun at all. Nothing in the vid looked fast paced and the world was *gasp* to dark. The monsters are every bit as lame as the DooM 3 guys. This is going to be something gamers hype up from looking at the good looking screens then abandom ship once reviews come out, mark my words.

So, what are the weapons in the game? Smallpox, whiskey, and the railroad? If you're Native American, wouldn't those be enemies?

As far as FPSers go, this looks good and seems to have some fairly good ideas in it.

*yawn* wake me when rockets can destroy lightbulbs.Exactly. I would happily give up some graphical splendor to have incredibly destructable environments done well.
