Penguins are badass. I can't wait to see that movie. :)

so for those that saw it, how was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

Pulled the whole fam together to watch Charlie and Chocalate factory.

Once you get passed Depp and his Micheal Jacksonesque hair and makeup it's really a fun little romp. Burton resists the need to go overly dark and instead stays true to the book for the most part. Christopher Lee makes an apperance and the ompa lompas return as kooky as the 1971 film.

I liked it. Although the goofy little Wonka song will not get the fuck out of my head.

Frankly, 55 million shocked me. I thought it would pull much better.

It was good. I was a big fan of the original movie as a kid, and I think this one succeeds to. It follows the book more closely. Depp's performance is a little weird, but definitely great. Perfect? Not really. But totally worth seeing if you're up for a great kid's movie.

Ebert hit that creepy Jackson-esque quality to the Wonka character right on the head in his review.

We finally got out to see Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Batman Begins this weekend. Smith was a fun romp with some good chemistry and funny lines, but the wife and I both came out of Batman Begins pretty damned impressed. The only beef I have with it is people not blowing up into steaming giblets when the 73% or so of their bodymass-as-saltwater vaporized thanks to the microwave.

As much as it obviously couldn't happen story-wise, holy shit that would've been cool.

No lies here. Although a bit vulgar, which accounts for the R-rating, Wedding Crashers is a nonstop laugh riot. Also contains some boobie action for those of you interested.

I didn't even realize it was R until the first nips.

Microwaves have a longer wavelength than visible light. The wouldn't have penetratd the ship's piping, let alone several feet of concrete on top of it.

People not exploding (leaving their clothes to flutter through the air, I'd imagine) is a relatively minor oversight in comparison.

I really enjoyed Charlie, just a really fun and funny movie. Depp was fantastic, and like in Pirates he's reason alone to see the movie. Praise to the kid who plays Charlie for being a child actor that doesn't annoy the hell out of me. He was great in Finding Neverland as well.

I thought Charlie was great. The updated songs really fit and were funny, Depp did a really good job, and the movie was just really clever all around. Worth seeing for anyone slightly interested.

I really was not expecting the Wedding Crashers to be any good. I got dragged to it. I, like someone above, hadn't known that it was an 'R' movie. Really, this is a movie along the lines of American Pie, which the trailer hadn't really shown at all.

It is funny as HELL. Even with some pretty cliche "ok we gotta do something with the romance bit, now" moments, it was hilarious. As an aside, I was really impressed with the crazy red-head chick. There's not too many smokin' hotties who can really nail the physical comedy. Look out for her.

I love Burton and Depp. But from the trailer for Factory it seemed like Depp was doing his best to impersonate Jim Carrey. I'll probably still check out the film though.

AFAIC, any movie with either Owen Wilson or Vince Vaughn is worth seeing. Team them up and you've got a riot.

Yeah, he seems a lot more annoying in the trailer than he is in the movie. His lines are less "lame catch-phrasey" in the movie. He's a much better Wonka in context.

He pulls off the act of a person who has been locked in a factory for 15 years with Oompa Loompa's who can sing in english but have no clue how to talk in english. Even though they did whisper in his ear from time to time.

When asked who he molded the character around, it wasn't Jackson. It was Marilyn Manson with a bit of Howard Hughes. He said that he wanted to stear clear of being like Jackson because Wonka doesn't like children very much and had a predisposed dislike of anything family. Here is a guy that was slapped in the face by his own workers and locked himself up in a factory for a very long time. This is also why, in the movie, he kept having to take those cards out to read. He no longer knew how to communicate effectively with anybody.

Everyday before he went on set to perform, he would jam out to Marilyn Manson.

Very interesting info. I still don't think it's quite how the Wonka character should be, speaking as far as the books go, but it's an interesting take on it, and I still think Depp did a spectacular job.

But presumably the monorail (to say nothing of the ship!) had some steel and\or other metals in its construction (rebar in all the concrete they passed over?), and as someone who's seen what happens when a metal-cored twist-tie ends up in just a simple microwave oven...

Besides, Gremlins proved that living flesh + microwave = fun for everyone!

I find it funny how a topless scene now garners an R rating, when in the 70's all that was given was PG. I think that is why films like "The Beastmaster" are still so popular with the teens (although, I like that movie anyway).

As for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I understand that there was only 1 person playing the Oopma Loompas. It sounds like they pulled it off, which is amazing.

For the record, I never heard of that Manson hogwash, but I did read quotes from Depp on Yahoo! saying that he based the character on children show hosts such as Mr. Rogers and that ilk. I think I can see that a lot more clearly than any trace of Manson in the character. Overall, another great performance from the Kentucky born star.

It was Deep Roy, and he was excellent. He played all these different characters and didn't even say a word. In the credits it said that Danny Elfman himself did his voice/voices. Elfman rules.

Ok, I really, really hate Tim Burton. I think he's insanely overrated and he proves time and time again that different isn't always better. He's weird, but not in a good/entertaining way. After seeing Batman Begins, I went back and watched Burton's Batman (which I enjoyed), and after seeing Begins, Burton's version just looks silly. Don't even get me started on Joel Schumacher.

With that being said, Charlie was much better than I thought it would be. I LOVED the kid who played Charlie, and Depp was good as usual. What I didn't like was the Deep Roy multiplied 100x+ for the Oompa Loompas. He did a great job with it, but that decision was a poor one and I much prefer the OLs from the '71 flick. Who can possibly forget the song from that movie? The new Oompa Loompa songs, while entertaining, were forgettable.

I am not surpised that Johnny Deep used Marylin Manson as insperation. When I first saw the poster for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, at first glance I said. "What a minute, they got Marylin Manson to play as Willy Wonka!?!"

Exactly.

My girlfriend and I decided to go see it just for something to do. I wasn't really expecting it to be that great. I couldn't have been more wrong. Seriously, if you haven't seen Wedding Crashers, do yourself a favor, and go check it out. Although, some of the humor is vulgar.

Well I just saw the interview he had on Jay Leno, recently, and he said in that interview that he actually got his inspiration from old game show and kid show hosts. Then he stated specifically guys Fred Rogers, Captain Kangaroo.

Ebert in the review of the movie said that Johnny Depp looked like a cross between Michael Jackson AND CAROL BURNETT. I actually think he looked more like the latter especially with those fake teeth in his mouth. :D
