Ok, it has been a while since we did a 'Pure Evil' editorial. Mostly I find that I have less to editorialize about these days because it is so easy to avoid getting suckered into buying a crappy game when you can just hit EvAv.com and see what game everyone is talking about and which games everyone is avoiding.

And while I'm sure my long-time readers are curious as to which kind of boots I'm wearing to work, I don't do the 'This is my life (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33554).' posts much any more -- at least not on the main page.

Today is a special occassion. The embargo has been lifted from Halo 3 reviews (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showpost.php?p=997358&postcount=78) and I put up some quick First Impressions (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36620).

first bioshock now halo 3, the reviews are all saying 10 and 5 out of 5 stars.

Meanwhile across the road, PS3 rolls out a game lineup this year that resembles the mutants from the Hills Have Eyes

They sure are selling a lot of PS2's, eh?

I have no idea what they are thinking. Their big franchises are Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy and those are both a bit on the tired side. They have a diamond in the rough -- Killzone -- and an upcoming star -- Kingdom Hearts -- and neither one is available on the system this year.

What about Folklore, Eye of Judgement, Uncharted : Drake's Fortune and Haze? Sure, none of them have a 3 after them but it doesn't need to be a sequel to be big. And if you need a sequel Ratchet and Clank is out this year.

Drake's Fortune didn't look that good and Haze is multiplatform, so I'm not sure I would count that one -- plus it is an unknown quantity. Haze could rock or it could be just average.

I haven't tried the Folklore demo yet, but isn't it just another JRPG? And doesn't Eye of Judgement use the EyeToy? Neither one would be "system sellers".

Actually according to Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/haze/index.html?tag=result;title;1) Haze for 360/PC was canceled. And you underestimate the CCG market.

It is listed on EBGames as coming out in January for the Xbox 360. They may have just delayed it to keep from going head to head with Halo 3.

Why did my Xbox have to die now of all times?

I've been on the fence and leaning towards the negative about Halo 3. I loved Halo, but hated every aspect of Halo 2, so much so that I couldn't even make it all the way though the campaign. But now after the chance to spend an hour playing at a friends, combined with all of the great impressions I'm hearing, I just don't think I can pass it up.

By the time I get my xbox back, and the estimate is first week of November (WTF?!) I'll still have Stranglehold to play, I currently have sealed copies of skate. Eternal Sonata, and soon Halo3, PGR4, Guitar Hero 3 and who knows what else. Woe is me.

On the bright side, at least I've got Bioshock on PC to keep me occupied, not to mention a brand new Fender American Strat to play the shit out of (My girlfriend told me today that she could hear me playing from a block away).
