And the verdict is... (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/halo3/review.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=gssummary&tag=summary;review)
A 9.5
As games start to consider user-generated content, it's becoming clear that more and more games will be ready to give you back just as much as you're willing to put into them. On the surface, Halo 3 is every bit the sequel you would expect it to be, in that it delivers meaningful upgrades to both the story-driven and competitive sides of the package. However, it's the addition of the Forge level editor and the saved films that give the game an even longer set of legs, legs that will probably keep you running at full speed until Bungie figures out where, exactly, to go from here.
Video review here. (http://www.gamespot.com/video/926632/6179743/halo-3-video-review-)
Within two days Gamespot has churned out two reviews with 9.5 scores. The other being World in Conflict. Good times to be a gamer... it seems.
Editor: A list of other reviews has been posted Here (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showpost.php?p=997358&postcount=78).

What's with the "it seems" at the end of the OP? World in Conflict deserves that 9.5, and from what I've read what other reviewers are saying, so does Halo 3.

Are we going to have a news thread for every single 9 or 9.5 Halo 3 gets? Seriously, we already have one of those in the Halo 3 section.

Thanks for the link, was wondering when the first ones would be coming out.
/makes some popcorn and waits for some "Gerstmann is teh biased" stuff.

Coming from Gerstmann, a 9.5 is huge. Now I can breathe easy knowing that Halo 3 won't be a letdown. Gerstmann's a hardass.

Self-fulfilling prophecy, I'd say.

Yeah, I don't think we need a news post for every review that Halo 3 gets, haha.

Let's hope not. But I think a news post for the first review for what is, arguably, the biggest game of the year is perfectly warranted.

Actually this wasn't the first review. The review embargo went up at Noon PST today and several sites posted theirs at that time including Gamespot, 1up and IGN.....so there was no first review.

Biosho...wha?
Halo 3 being uber does not take away how great BIOSHOCK is/was.
Bioshock held me over and kept me satisfied till Halo 3. I'm hoping Bioshock is still talked about years from now.. I doubt it will be under the shadow of Halo 3 .

I find that Gerstmann is less of a hard-ass and more of a reviewer who doesn't take "fun" into consideration when reviewing a game. One man's opinion.
That's not to detract from Halo 3, which has rave reviews all over the place. It's on track for the top 5 at Gamerankings once it gets enough reviews, and the score could go up from there.

I think that's a fantastic idea! The SDF should love it too.

Biosho...wha?
I think the question is will it be Halo 3 FPS GOTY and Bioshock runner-up, or the other way around?

Shh, they can't give away Halos and Xboxes without mentioning the game every three or four news posts.

If I hear Gerstman talk shit about this game, after this review, I will be perturbed. Sometimes he acts like he and the GS editors were the only people to realize that they over scored Halo 2 to make fans happy.

Over-scored? Their reviews are fact, not opinion. Their FAQ says so
"Wait, reviews are just opinions. Right?"
Actually, we don't think so. We make no excuses for our verdicts about games and believe our reviews stand for themselves. While our reviews, of course, do contain an element of subjectivity to them, we see the process of reviewing games as one that primarily involves the reporting of facts. To an extent, we naturally color these facts based on our own experiences of having spent much time playing other games in the past, but we make every effort to look at every game on its own merits, and we describe each game in the most factual terms possible.
See, it's not opinion, they take facts about the game and then subjectively color them. This is very different from and better than the review processes of other sites. If you can't realize that, you don't deserve to read their genius.

The thing is tho, 9 out of 10 times Gamespot lowballs games for the sake of lowballing them to look "tough"

Of all the scoring systems out there, Gamespot has one of the better ones. They are not IGN, AKA a joke. What I am referring to is how the Gamespot podcast crew rips on Halo constantly, but those same editors give shining reviews. I can give them a pass on 2 because a lot of editors admit that they over-scored that one, that fan demand and hype got the better of them.

I played it......it was........well.....Halo.
I don't like Halo, so I didn't like it. If a person likes Halo then they will like Halo 3. It's just......I dunno....yet another lame FPS that gets way too much hype for me. I mean what makes Halo stand out? Someone please explain it to me cause I'm just not getting it. Is there some secret part of the game that's super fun and maybe I just missed it? The story is cliche, the whole idea of the game is cliche. I mean come on.....a FPS where you shoot aliens!! OH BOY!!
