Gamecloud has a report (http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=731) on the just completed Doom movie panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, including word that the movie adaptation of the id Software first person shooter will, contrary to earlier reports, take place on Mars.

God forbid they steer away from the source material. The page worth of text at the beginning and end of the game was such a perfectly crafted story that anything else would be blastphemy.

Doom storyline would not make a good movie, however the Doom storyline is a great foundation to build a movie around. Mars, Teleportation technology, UAC, opening a portal to hell, demons come out, trip into Hell. That is a great movie premise.

Instead what we get is, virus, The Rock, an aliens like squad of marines, and other hollywood cliches.

I'm probably not going to like it, just because it's called doom. If it was the same movie, but called, "Mars Zombies" I'd probably give it a more fair shake. Just having it named doom makes it weird before you even see it.

but then again The Rock has yet to be unentertaining. The highlight of Be Cool.

A friend was at the panel and called me right after she saw it.

Apparantly they showed a 10 minute clip from the movie that takes place entirely in first person, bouncing gun and all. She said it looked EXACTLY like game.

At least it feels like they're trying something new.

Wow! They're filming the movie ON Mars?!?! That'll blow their entire FX budget.... :(

Ofcourse they'll make it all back by selling a few Mars rocks on Ebay for 1 mill each. ;)

Well, reading that actually got me more insterested in the movie. Of course, its more like "somewhat interesting" from "not-interested at all", but still.
