Cool. Hopefully it won't become a victim to the sequel curse. The one thing it has going for it is one of the screenwriters from the original movie, Leigh Whannell who played Adam in Saw, helped write the sequel and is on board as an executive producer. I finally saw the original (nope I wasn't going to say I saw Saw) over the 4th of July weekend and really enjoyed the hell out it.

I didn't like it really... Found it a little cliche all around. At the same time, it wasn't horrible, so I'll probably watch the sequel too.

A "thriller" about a serial killer who locks people up and sets up ways for them to kill theirselves as they try to escape.

As a stupid popcorn flick with friends it was ok, as a complete rip-off of Seven it was above average, as a thriller it was sub-par.
The final 10 minutes comprised entirely of screaming was overly dramatic and the surprise ending was trite and cliched.
Oh yes, and let's not forget a villain who is a super genius.... can't forget the super genius villain.
I will say that I did like the fact that for such a low budget film with no stars it did quite well for itself.

I'm usually a lil behind with most of the new films, so yea, I need to see Saw.
Got dawn of the dead right here, gonna watch it tomorrow.

Ummm... no you don't. It is horrible, with very few redeeming features. It is as if someone wanted to make a file like se7en, but suffered from a sever case of mental retardation. It is painfull to watch.

God, they kept a writer, having a whole new director and crew doing the sequel is a selling point :) .
Actually I have mixed feelings about Saw, on one hand it had bad acting and implausible plot, despite that it had a real energy to it. Like I bet if the film was in Japanese and directed by Miike or someone everyone would be raving about it.

Remember that movie Seven, with Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman? Imagine someone trying to make a movie like that, but without any of the parts that made Seven good.

Sweet cornbread eating Jesus the first was so utterly horrible I could do nothing but repeat "What the fuck was that shit?" over and over with increasing shrillness at the end of the film.
Sure the acting was horrible. Sure the screaming was ridiculous. Sure the twist made you immediately think through all the inconsistancies of the plot. But what really got me was how it ended. you just don't end a movie that way. It was like they forgot to film the last 5 minutes of the flick. You just don't leave the fate of your characters hanging like that. The doctor's crawling around outside of the room. The bad guy leaves the room. The whiny punk bitch is still in the room. Then what? What the hell happens then?

Meh, Saw was ok. The end was tacky though. I'll be about as excited for this sequel as I was for "Jeepers Creepers" (as in, not at all). But the thriller/horror movie scene generally doesn't get by on having the best writing.

I thought the original was a great little film. Sure... a pop corn thriller that isn't going to have people talking about it in years to come but it was just as enjoyable as Se7en which is NOT as good as everyone says it is.

I agree that it wasn't so bad. I don't think anyone was out to make a masterpiece with the first movie. It was just a fun little horror flick with an original idea. I'd see the sequel.
Now Se7en, on the other hand, is one of my favorite movies of all time. If Fincher will stop making commercials and an (admittedly cool) NIN video, he can get to work on another great film.

Hmm, I think this goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GAMES.

Yeah but it has a lot to do with a post made by the SITE OWNER... therefore it stays. :D
On the subject of Fincher I think he did a great job of directing Se7en... the issue was not with the direction... it was with the script.
Oh and for the record am I the only person who feels that the killer's great plan was flawed from the beginning because despite Brad Pitt's character being guilty of the deadly sin of wrath he does not die. That kind of messed the film up a bit for me... but even past that I was only really intrigued as to the way the deaths were carried out. I prefered Saw where I actually wanted to see a conclusion.
Anyway I think Fincher's best work was easily Fight Club, followed by Se7en and then The Game (although I preferred The Game to Se7en, Fincher's role was better in Se7en)

The original Saw was obviously based on a premise borne out of alcohol and a smoky atmosphere.
That the first half of the film was so enjoyable was completely surprise at odds with the whole idea behind it - but the second half, and especially the scenery chewing (almost literally) finale really caused more unintentional laughter than trinity's death scene in the matrix trilogy.
It's worth seeing, but I suspect that it was the profit factor that earned it a sequel than any underlying quality or public desire.

You are obviously a man who understands the subtle art of owning your own website. :)
I'm sorry there are so many people here who didn't like Saw. I thought it was a great flick. I guess some times I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to horror movies.
As for the ending to Saw, if you think everyone died, you didn't listen to the beginning of the movie. ;)
I really need to buy the DVD.

hmmmmmmm, interesting. As i remember, the cop gets shot, Zep gets pounded to death, the doctor obviously will have bled to death, and the photographer will have stayed there until he died of teh starvation. I dont understand about the beginning. If you can enlighten me? or maybe I have to go to the site first. :P
Also, i forget to mention hat I thought it was pretty damn good myself. I didnt compare it to se7en because I just go into these movies having an open mind about it. Some of youse guys see it, get the impression that its a rip off, and it spoils the movie apparently. I do agree though that if you think about the plot for too long, your head might explode. :p

OldBoy was great. But as has been pointed out here, I don't know why this was front-page news, considering it's a) Not gaming related. and b) Not even that important of a announcement for movies either.

I thought we dealt with that question. This is EA's site and EA's post. Pretty easy equation really. ;)
On the subject of Se7en vs Saw I should point out I watched Saw with no knowledge of what I was about to see outside of it being done by the movie reviewer dude from Recovery (an early morning indy music show in Australia that used to be around). It was after seeing that the comparisons with se7en could not be avoided... and I just happened to enjoy it more.

Not sure why people compare it to seven. They're both horror, and that is about it.
The illusion of choice upon the part of the victims is the linchpin of Saw, whereas the victims in Seven had no choice at all.

I think it gets compared to se7en due to the look&feel of the movie and the focus on "elaborate" ways to kill people. And for me, the scenes of the killings is what really ruined the movie.
Remember the music-video-style extreme closeup and camera moves when those killings were shown? To me it just seemed like the director yelled at me: "Hey look at us! We came up with a cool way to kill somebody! Ain't that great?" And that's the fault. IMO the movie - unlike se7en - boasts of those killings.

***Spoilers***
I don't think I have a copy here anywhere so I can't double check, but in the beginning Jiggsaw says something like, "One of your lives will be changed forever and the other one this room will be his tomb."
I think the implication is that the Doctor lives. He was alive when he crawled out of the room, if he can get to a phone or a car he would live. In fact, he when he gets to a phone or a car - he isn't planning on sending any help for Adam. That is why he says, "Would I lie to you?" (Since Adam had been lying all along.)
Since they don't outright tell you one way or the other in the film and we know that Jiggsaw has let other victems live in the past - I just concluded that the Doctor lives.
