GameInfowire.com is reporting (http://www.gameinfowire.com/news.asp?nid=6672) from the San Diego Comic Con that comic writer Mark Millar (Ultimates) and artist Terry Dodson (House of M) will be added to the talent list helping out on Electronic Arts new super-hero fighting game, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects.

I'm really doubting that this will be a good game... I'm predicting it to be the video game equivalent to a Katarmi rolled through a sewer. But then again, that's just how I feel about most comic book games.

What can Mark Millar do for a fighting game..?

Uh...script the witty banter between the opponents? :D

Seriously, you're right. When you're playing a fighting game do you really care about a story? Or are you just wishing the game would hurry the hell up and get past the "Terminax Vs. The Thing! Round 42!" intro screen so you can mash buttons and pummel the other guy?

I am the part of the last group, your viewpoint may vary.

Man, at the next Wondercon I will be taking a laptop or other means of internet communication with me to post things that are going on. I feel like the San Fran comic-con gets the media shaft when it comes to coverage and talent on hand. And it is organized by the same people. What the hell is so special about San Diego?

Oh, let me just say that I love The Ultimates and Mark Millar's work on it... But as has been pointed out above, he has absolutely nothing to offer a fighting game.

DAMMIT, just because fighting games are known for their lack of plot doesnt mean it has to be that way. If this guy can actaully create an engaging story for this game, more power to him. Of course if the fighting system sucks, theres no helping that.

The fact that every attempt at a plot-driven Fighting game has been a complete and utter failure doesn't matter to you?

I saw a movie for this game the other day. One of the characters is named Johnny Shock or something equally retarded. At the start of the fight, swear to god, he said, "Heeeeeere's Johnny!"

It kind of looks like it plays like Powerstone, only sans the 4 players and interesting environments. And it goes withotu saying that the non-marvel characters look like ass. The aformentioned Johnny Shock, for instance, is a shirtless, musclebound bald man with little electric bolts coming out of his body at odd angles.

San Diego is just about twice the size of Wondercon. I've been to both, and Wondercon really dosen't compare.

Did they really need to create a new batch of superheroes for this game? Are there not already enough beloved heroes in the Marvel universe with well documented backstories, devoted fan followings and tried and true character design?

And the "Here's Johnny!" line alone has killed any interest whatsoever I may have had in this game.

Which one would you be refering to? I don't recall anyone ever making a plot driven fighter.

What with the comic series spin off I guess EA see this as their foot in the door of the comic industry. Look out for the new totally badass Johnny Shock series coming your way very soon.

Those Mortal Kombat games that try to have "adventure" elements, Tobal (a fighting game made by Squaresoft), along with several other titles which slip my mind for both the PS1 and the DC. I don't think there have been many (or possibly ANY) on the PS2 or XBOX though. But it didn't work back in the day, and it's not going to work now.

There's another Mortal Kombat spinoff in the works, Shaolin Monks perhaps? Their idea of using enemy corpses as platforms could be interesting.

Anyway, Viewtiful Joe is an example of story and fighter mechanics working together, and there is a multiplayer version coming out later this year.

That's what I mean. Why is it twice the size? Why does it attract so many people? Moscone Center is huge, and I think Wondercon only utilizes the one half. Maybe it's a summer/spring travel thing. More people must be vacationing this time of year. I'll make it down there for it one of these years. Just kind of a bummer that so many video game/web comic/movie industry folks that make it down there don't even consider Wondercon.

There's quite a few examples of good comic games. I mean it's the same ratio as good games in general to bad games in general. Look at the Spider-Man titles, or that new Hulk title (haven't played, but have heard good things).

Anyways, I haven't read anything of Millar's, but I've not heard much good about him.

This fighting game is going to S.U.C.K so bad. I will be incredibly suprised if this game isn't one of the worst fighters in history.

I bet it will play like Pit Fighter :D

Because It's like adding a plot to tetris.

The Authority he wrote was pretty good, as is Wanted. Red Son is also nice. He also writes (wrote?) Ultimate X-Men and the Ultimates. I find that sometimes he mishandles characters in favor of being clever, but he's still better than most comic writers.

Well, like I said, I haven't read anything much yet. I will eventually. Those recommendations should help me decide what. Danke.
